  1. Thanks, 1RX. After cleaning, it passes compressed air with no restriction in the correct direction, while allowing no flow the other way. It's a small sealed unit, and I believe it has a rubber (or some sort of soft material) seal. We'll reinstall the valve and see how it goes.
  2. Quick update: Purchased a ultrasonic cleaner for $60, and will report later on results. Seems like a good gamble,, and SWMBO will get clean jewelry, regardless.

  4. 601RX, My A&P said he tried cleaning the old one but no luck. An MSC will sell me a new one for $550. ASS needs to order one: 2 weeks/$630. Thanks for the suggestions.
  5. Again, Paul, thanks for the excellent information! I'm getting RFQ's from them. I had tried Googling the P/N, to no avail. (Been flying 50 years, and in all but the last 6, maintenance entailed simply writing up the squawk. It's a brave new world.)
  6. Thanks, Paul. I hadn't thought of the TCM website.
  7. I need a replacement turbo oil return check valve, P/N 367-00 (TCM P/N 641068). It's about 2' long, and the first quote I have from a MSC is $650.(!) Any suggestions on how to avoid highway robbery? Thanks, Dick Cell 301-501-4601
  8. Thanks, Bodie and Dan. TIT was <1500.
  9. Cruising home recently on a short flight in my 231 (with Gami's and intercooler) at 3,500 MSL, 27" MAP, 2460 RPM, and 9.8 GPH, I had the following readings: CYL EGT CHT 1 1475 318 2 1332 311 3 1418 302 4 1312 317 5 1444 301 6 1447 276 There's no real change from my "normalized" indications, but I'm asking: -- Is the 153 df spread between 1 and 4 considered excessive? (It seems high to me for a "Gamied" engine.) -- Is there anything else significant in the numbers? Thanks in advance, Dick

  11. Magnus, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, as I expect you'll get it fixed for no charge. (As I did, when the same thing happened to me.) Now it's been two years trouble-free. Excellent unit, IMO. Dick
  12. Brett, I'm available tomorrow. Can I can be of service? Could fly 888BC to LBE early, go commercial to MYR and make it home the same day. Dick Edit: I'm taking care of this for Brett.
  13. Happy to contribute. Thanks
  14. Admittedly, I haven't flown with a sferic detector, but I would not consider flying IMC into an area that is NEXARAD red, regardless of the sferic indication. Conversly, I wouldn't enter an area of sferic activity IMC, regardless of the NEXRAD picture. They would both need to be "clean."

  22. And it won't stall if you simply maintain cruise, climb, or GA power and cruise attitude. As I said, they were incompetent. The only question is why. Lack of training or sheer stupidity...or both? First, teach pilots to fly. Then, teach them to manage the automation to make the flying easier. ('Nuff hijacking.)
  23. I guess when you are safe on the ground with no souls in back, it is a lot easier to make the right decisions. Anyone who's been through a 4-hour simulator evaluation might disagree. The decisions aren't easier. The consequences of error, though not physically dangerous, can have serious career ramifications. Flying the line is the easy part. Sorry, but the AF pilots were irredeemably incompetent. Why the lacked the most basic of instrument flying skills is debatable.
  24. Quote: jetdriven Low time inexperienced pilots have been killing themselves in airplanes, oh, since about 1920.... The news reports him as a "safe, cautious pilot" as every pilot ever written about is described.
