I have a 1977 J model serial # 24-0129. Upon inspection of and an attempt to replace the small o-ring when I removed the AN nut I ruined the threads due to rust and I have some corrosion on the top lift flap that opens the fuel cap. Here is the information from the Fuel Tank Cap, identified as "Size 3, 50 PSI, Spec Mil-C-007244C, Ross, p/n 431-9, Shaw Aero, Code 99321 If any one has 2 fuel caps let me know. Eldon

Quote: Bennett Great idea about pursuing the Mooney drawings. I think it might be difficult with Mooney being essentially shut down, but I will try. In response to the request for more Lopresti cowl photos:

Quote: Bennett I thought I should mention that the photos I just posted were shot before we re-did the interior. New interior photos will be posted in the next day or so.

Quote: Mitch " I'm getting old (hate to admit it), and this will undoubedly be my last airplane before I hang up the keys, and so re-sale and/or recovery of expenses is not as important as the sheer pleasure of flying an airpalne you have had customized, and that you really like." I do identify with your statement!

Quote: Bennett New to the fotum, but not Mooneys. I recently purchased a 1983 Mooney M20J after previously owing a M20K (231 converted to a 261/262) for about 18 years -with various Pipers, Cessnas, and an LSA in between. Love the "new" airplane. I had her painted by ArtCraft in Santa Maria - great job, and uphostered by Tim Thallock (Aviation Design, Inc.) at Pine Mountain Lake - again a great job, but for some reason only the pilot's seat is articulating, and the co-pilot seat is far too low for any of my pilot friends, I am looking for one articulating front seat - uphostery doesn't matter so long as the seat mechanism is intact. I understand that these are very difficult to find, but I am prepared to pay a fair price for one. Suggestions (other than add a cushion) would be appreciated. Thank you.

Quote: Mitch Ok, done. 97% on the knowledge test. I'll take it. Best to everyone headed in the test direction.

Quote: ghost I am currently redoing my interior and panel on my 79 J. My question is what type of glass do I put back in the airplane?? std?? Tinted?? or UV Tinted?? Would love to hear your thougths

Thanks everyone the feedback has been great, and I will be incorporating all suggestions into my overall marketing plan, the main intent is to make it easy for any potential purchasers to say yes, paying $150,000 for 1800 sq ft to store 2 airplanes in this market place is a high price. The only other thing I have added is minimal heat to maintain 40F when our winter nights go down to -20F. Eldon

Quote: KSMooniac On the subject of doors...check out Hydroswing, which are single-panel hydraulic doors instead of bi-fold doors. Much better design IMO.

Quote: DaV8or I think you have to identify who your likely buyers are first. Your smaller units selling at $180,000 would most likely scare off most Mooney pilots! Given the high lease rates, I would be looking at ways to make the construction prices much lower so that the buyer can better afford the monthly payments. 1. What is a reasonable minimum size hanger in your opinion. Your size seems about right. 2. If a central compressed air system was provided would that be important. Skip it. Who owns it? Who maintains it? Who fixes it. Lower cost is important. 3. Would you share a hanger with one or two other planes to cut down costs. No. Anybody buying their own hangar will want it all to themselves I would think. 4. For extra price would office space or mezzanine storage be important. Not to me. Again, for the average GA guy, cost is everything. Offices and mezzanines are more for businesses and people with loads of money All they really need is electric, lights and internet would be really nice. I would skip the tall roofs if it lowers the cost too. Manual doors too if it brings the cost way down. Just my cheap guy two cents.

Hi Everyone, I am in the planning process of building a hanger complex west of Edmonton at Villeneuve CZVL, see hanger perspectives below. For those who have the experience owning hangers good or bad I would appreciate some feedback regarding style of hanger and ownership. The site was designed originally for t-hangers, I liked rectangular hangers better as they seemed to provide highest and best use. The 2 end spaces are 75' x 86' which will allow for a Rotating Aircraft Carrier (RAC) for up to 5 or 6 aircraft. The 8 individual hangers in the middle will be 42' x 43' with ceiling hieght of 18'. Bifold doors will be 14 ft high. Because of lot size constraints I may have to cut the size of 2 of the hangers down a bit to allow for those who have homebuilts. The beauty of the RAC "Rotating Aircraft Carrier" is it eliminates the risk of hanger rash and having to move someone else's airplane to get yours out. These hangers would be sold assuming cost of approx $90 to $100 per sq. ft. which includes R20 insulation. 1. What is a reasonable minimum size hanger in your opinion. 2. If a central compressed air system was provided would that be important. 3. Would you share a hanger with one or two other planes to cut down costs. 4. For extra price would office space or mezzanine storage be important. 5. What is the approximate average cost to purchase hangers in your area. 6. I am talking with 2 fabricators, the one I like the best so far is R & M Steel Cladwell Idaho, does anyone know of any other reputable steel fabricators. I'm looking at aircraft lifts also hense the 18' ceiling hieghts, I need to be as efficient as possible with this space as the lease cost is very high, the airports are controlled by a central airport authority and the lease cost's are set. My real motivation is to get the Mooney population increased in the Metro Edmonton area and have everyone of you fly here so I can cook you that $100 hamburger. If you wish you can email me or PM Thanks in advance Eldon

Thanks everyone, I get all my inspiration and ideas from this group. Vref and KSMooniac and Mitch are great examples.

Just wanted some feedback from this group, I just posted a photoshop picture of what my avionics shop suggested. They have positioned the MVP-50 right below the G530. I originally thought of having the avionics stack all together with the EI to the right side. All suggestions are appreciated. Eldon

I went with the EI-MVP-50. It is currently being installed. One of the main motivators was EI was a lot more helpful and easier to deal with. When I get my Mooney flying, I'll let you know. Eldon C-GJEZ

Has anyone done solar panels? The price on 1.2 kw units are coming down now and may be a viable option for some hangers. May be a cost effective way to keep that hanger at 40-50 degrees, especially in the northern climates. I'm doing some research now that will include the use of electric HWT and fancoils for heat distrubution. Eldon Energy Efficient Homes Inc.

Quote: carusoam Eldon, In my gallery there are about 40 pictures of various Mooneys from KOSH this year. They were originally posted with relatively high def. Some of the photos indicate the general area you are questioning. Let me know if any of these photos can help you. I can email a few photos in their original HD format if it helps. Unfortunately most are 20ft photos... -a-

On my 77 J I have changed the airvent to a more up to date 81 J style. My airframe mechanic has indicated to me that after he temporarily installed the tail and checked for movement on the trim, the positions shown in the pictures below of the new fibreglass fusalage fairing doesn't line up with the position of the aluminum stablizer fairing. All the pictures I have seen of other similiar Mooneys are inconclusive as I can't blow up the picture to see what other J's look like with this newer style fuselage fairing. It may be as simple as triming the new fusalage fairing to match with the aluminum Stabilizer fairing. If any one has pictures available from the newer style tail group that may help me. I'm kind of a fussy nut and a stickler on detail, and how it currently is placed bugs me a bit. So before I go and have all the rivets removed to line things up again, I thought I would ask this group. Thanks in advance for your input. Happy New Year everyone. Eldon (jezzie)

Hey wglover68, when you were at the factory did you get some indication that they may have more interiors in inventory that they would sell? I'm currently in a rebuild on a J model and have not even touched my interior, even though I could get by on what I have, it would be nice to put the proper finishing touches with the new interior. Who would I contact at the factory. Eldon
