  1. I'm going to fly my baby back from the avionics shop she's been in for the last month and a half.
  2. Yep, but it is also quite fun as well.
  3. Gotta push mine down before rolling forward or back also.
  4. Never flown into Gillespie County, but I do enjoy visiting Fredericksburg. I had an instructor tell me that Mustang Island would make a good trip for seafood.
  5. When it is no longer reasonable to attempt to put the aircraft back down. Even when taking off from 5000ft @ 100 degrees F my 75 F model has no trouble establishing a positive rate of climb.
  6. My GPMS is equpped with music output (though it is random and includes vocals only) and reminders for travel times, thirst, and hunger. I'm beginning to think mine has a loose wire, as not only is the music output random, the automatic switching of radio and transponder frequencies is often random as well. I suspect a fully functioning GPMS is a wonderful tool to have.
  7. Don't you want to know EVERYTHING that could and/or should be corrected? You always have the option of not correcting any non-airworthiness issues found. If the seller is implying that you should NOT know everything that could be corrected, I'd certainly be suspicious.
  8. Having diverted to Gallup a few weeks ago, I can attest to the winds in that part of country being a bit challenging. 25 knots "pretty much" down the runway can gust upwards of 40 knots and swing to 40 degrees off the nose in a flash. Combined with the density altitude, we have to be especially alert when flying to these locations.
  9. I agree with the idea of attempting to speak with the pilot. Take this as an opportunity to impart a little wisdom upon a fellow pilot.
  10. Life's lessons, Texas Hill Country style. Gotta love the simplicity of calling 'em like you see 'em.
  11. Just found out my Century 41 autopilot needs a new altitude hold transducer and a new motherboard. Anybody looking to sell or know of a possible salvage opportunity, please contact me.
  12. Just the three of you (even when the young one is a bit more grown), flying the low airways of Texas, New Mexico, and Coloado? Mooney. I've flown my F (slower than the J, maybe a touch more useful load) across New Mexico and Arizona a few times and aside from the indiscriminate turbulence, it does a more than adequate job.

I like the comparison. IMO, too many aircraft purchasers get caught up reading the book numbers and lose sight of their anticipated mission.
  14. Any of you Century 41 owners ever have a problem with the AP always wanting to climb?
  15. Teach your daughter the value of hard work by making her pay her own way through college and spend the college fund on a full glass panel.
  16. I opened the ram air on my 75 F at 10,500ft on a recent trip from San Antonio to Las Vegas and got just more than a 1/2" of pressure from it.
  17. I just got done shopping through the K, Bravo, and Eagle models and I want to say the real world quotes for overhauls on Ks turned out to be closer to $42k than they were to $52k when we called the overhaul shop. If I'm recalling correctly, the difference in quotes we got between overhauling and just getting a factory reman was only $2k.
  18. Anything that lands in East Texas in July or August is a "bug smasher".
  19. Whew! Had that been "Tirade Over Tucson" I'd have been worried someone caught me cursing the turbulence and smoke on the way out to Vegas last week.
  20. Hey Parker, be sure and wave when you go streaking past me. Of course, I'll still be puttering along down closer to 10k. But hey! No need for oxygen or speed brakes, right?
  21. And nobody will ever guess that you are really drinking scotch on the rocks in that cup!
  22. Now there's an idea . . . reorganize Mooney as publicly held parts and service provider.
  23. I'm trying to figure out just how much display size the GTN650 is capable of having. Can the unit be configured so that the touch keys on the left and/or right disappear after a certain amount of time goes by without any knob/key activity?
  24. KBAZ is a nice little airport. Never kept an aircraft out there, but use it often for practice.
  25. I plan on getting my IFR this summer/fall for two reasons: I don't want to be grounded when the ceiling is a relatively benign and calm low overcast like we often get here in Texas winters, and because my flight review is due in November and I figured I may as well get an instructor to help me improve my skills leading up to the flight review. So, except for punching through low overcast, I have no need for an IFR rating.
