  1. Here's your chance to spend someone else's money! Build my panel for me! I'm taking my 75F with electric flaps and electric gear in for annual in April and I may be able to swing a panel upgrade this year. I'd like to solicit opinions and ideas about what I should have in my panel. Here are some details: - I'm not in awe of something just because it is the latest and greatest. - My flying has and will probably always be limited to VFR or light IFR. - My manual navigation skills are very good. - I would like the ability to fly at optimum engine settings at all flight levels and conditions. - Functionality and reliability are more important to me than "whiz-bang". - I would like to wind up with a panel that is flexible enough to meet upcoming regulations. My panel currently has 2 TKM nav/coms one with glideslope one without, a Garmin 496, a PM 1000 II intercom, a KMA 20 audio panel, a KT76A transponder, a WX10A StormScope, and a Century 41 autopilot. Anything that makes sense to keep, should be kept. Spend my money!
  2. I don't have a problem with choosing to do primary training in an Ovation. Heck, military pilots used to (and may still) do their primary training in turbine powered aircraft. I DO have a problem with an instructor turning a student loose in ANY aircraft to do solo work without knowing beyond any doubt that the student is prudent enough to know when to even attempt a landing. ie. airspeed is higher than my personal minimum on final, just push the throttle in and try again - no need to even attempt to get wheels on the ground on that pass. We should all know what airspeeds WE require on short final in order to make a safe landing.
  3. Now it's time to start learning! Yippeeeee! Congratulations.
  4. Whatever happened to our EI rep? I'm approaching annual and wanted to talk turkey about an engine monitor.
  5. A Big Chop from Cooper's and then an hour of gab with Llano Larry on the porch at the FBO sound like a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
  6. You'll have to park out back.
  7. The brakes on my 75 F hold just fine, including the parking brake.
  8. Bryan, try KSEP (Stephenville, TX) for some BBQ at Hard Eight, just over an hour away from you. For a longer trip, get down to KAQO (Llano, TX) for a visit with Llano Larry (runs the airport) and some BBQ at Coopers (if you go there, be sure to let Llano Larry know that Bub Moss' nephew sent ya). Both of these are easy to get to from their repsective airports. I could throw in a plug for my brother's burger joint down at KHPY (Baytown, TX), but let's face it, there's really no redeeming reason to go to that part of Texas. However, if you're so inclined and decide you just can't stay away from Houston's Class B, let me know and I'll see if I can arrange for your burgers to be delivered plane-side.
  9. I thought I had the market on fogged in Mooney pilot cornered here in San Antonio.
  10. Education is the primary reason I want to assist. I want to know as much about how everything works as I can get someone to teach me.
  11. I've got my first annual coming up and was wondering, what should I expect from a shop/mechanic that says they will allow me to assist? Should I expect to assist in all phases of the annual, just the 24 hours for the inspection portion, some parts of both, only the parts I want to assist with, what? Should I expect to supply my own tools? Help me out Mooniacs, what can I expect?
  12. pm sent
  13. Ditto, I went from to South Carolina to pick up my Mooney, then flew her to North Carolina before bringing her home to San Antonio. The trip back was great, and it afforded me plenty of time to get a feel for my new toy. Your potential trip from Oregon to New York would be an amazing adventure. However, if you've never flown in the mountains I would caution you against flying the aircraft back to NY from Oregon until you have some training/experience with mountain flying.
  14. Terrible shame. Makes me look back at my cancelled Christmas break plans and be thankful that I stayed on the ground.
  15. Aerodynamic adjustments with the same engine resulted in what was advertised to be 10 knots more speed.
  16. Elbow room isn't something you're going to get in a Mooney. I see no noticable difference in the shoulder to shoulder space in my F than that of the C brand aircraft I trained in. To echo the trend, get as much aircraft as you can afford.
  17. My '75 M20F has a useful load of 990lbs, carries 64 gallons of fuel, has the IO-360-A1A engine, and cruises at 140 knots at 8500 ft while burning 10.5 gph at roughly 50 degrees rich. The only modifications made to my aircraft are the lower cowl enclosure and the three bladed prop.
  18. His '94 J is well equipped and well taken care of. When I was in the market last year my decision came down to joining his partnership or purchasing outright. I decided I wanted the flexability of being able to fly any time, so the partnership lost out.
  19. In case anyone is interested, one of our newer members is selling his '94 M20J. I looked at the aircraft last February when the owner was looking for a partner and the aircraft appeared to be very well maintained. I don't know the details of the sale or the aircraft, just passing along the fact that the aircraft is for sale. The username here on MooneySpace is java and there is a listing on Controller @ http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/MOONEY-M20J-MSE/1994-MOONEY-M20J-MSE/1187215.htm
  20. No longer for sale.
  21. Quote: ehscott I'm no fan of either but if you look at what is necessary for progress the rule of law is number one. Sadly you need some arbiter of the rule of law and someone to represent you with that arbiter. Imagine either the lack of desire for innovation and research or the chaos if someone can't seek protection for what they produce, including intellectual property. I can tell you we spent millions of dollars of ours and an investor's money developing a very unique and creative approach that will have significant positive impact for the environment but I would have never invested over one million dollars of mine and my partner's money, nor could I have gotten a pension fund to provide us with fifteen million dollars if we didn't present a strategy for protecting our intellectual property. And that protection included seeking a series of patents. Otherwise why would I spend all that money for someone else to take my idea and make money off it? Simple answer, I wouldn't nor would any rational person. We need the rule of law and unfortunately that provides employment for USPTO and law firm employees.
  22. Personally, I think we have Patent Offices and a court system so that attorneys can insure employment.
  23. The Ram worked perfectly.
  24. Just got a Ram yoke mount for the 496 I use in my 75F. It works perfectly both over the yoke or under the yoke. I got part number RAM-B-121-GA7U.
  25. Sounds like a little bit of what the FDE who signed my private ticket was warning me about . . . some pilots convince themselves that having an instrument rating means they can fly in any type of weather.
