  1. Hoping it has a couple years of life left, thus the question about compressions. Trying to determine if the compressions are an indication that it is ALREADY time for an overhaul.
  2. Aircraft had a prop strike at 1300 hours, Penn Yann did the teardown and inspection, crank case had lap and linebore repair by DIVCO, no damage noted and engine reassembled. #4 cylinder was replaced at 1584 hours, #5 cylinder was replaced at 1790 hours. Last annual at 1880 hours DOES include a master orifice reading of 43. Cylinder compressions were 69/52/72/70/76/64. No metal found in any of the oil/filter inspections going back to prop strike.
  3. Sorry, don't have any other details. Just reading engine logs of prospective aircraft and found the discrepancy in the compressions a bit alarming. But instead of making an uneducated decision I thought I'd seek out some advice from those that fly behind the 550G.
  4. At what point would you worry about the compression in your cylinders? Would you be alarmed if 3 of your cylinders could only be coaxed into a compression of 60 while the other three were 68-70?
  5. Good question. I asked if I could find one from a salvage aircraft if it would work and was told that it likely would NOT work. You may be in the same boat (albeit one with wings) if you need to replace a 201 windscreen.
  6. Shame, just spoke with SWTA and they can no longer get the glass for their 201 windscreen mod.
  7. Rainman, you shouldn't have any trouble with insurance. I had just over 100 hours and no instrument rating when I bought my '75F last year and got a nice premium from Falcon Insurance out in Kerrville. They did require a minimum amount of dual instruction and then 10 additional hours solo before carrying passengers.
  8. Well, that's part of my shopping equation for sure. I want to have an idea of what I'm getting into before I take the plunge. It looks as if the overhaul costs for the 6 cylinder TSIO-360-M* is roughly $5,000 more than that of the 4 cylinder IO-360. I'm adding a top overhaul to the operating costs of the TSIO-360 as well.
  9. These prices are for TSIO-360 engines found in the 252.
  10. $44,000 for factory overhaul, $46,000 for factory "new limits", $32,000 field overhaul . . . labor not included
  11. What a coincidence. Until moving back to Texas this most recent time, we lived in central Florida for 5 years, just outside of Orlando. It was okay, but too much mouse oriented stuff where we lived. Of course, that's why the co-pilot and kids liked it so much.
  12. I loved living in Phoenix. We were just inside the Agua Fria freeway, south of Thunderbird Rec Area. My co-pilot just couldn't stay away from Texas.
  13. Parker, I have plenty of stories like that. . . what amounts to a couple of years of my life spent in the Comfort Suites in Winston-Salem, the months I spent in Motel 6 just outside D.C., a solid month at the Hilton Gardens just north of the airport in San Antonio, weeks of corporate apartment in Phoenix, . . . I'd still rather be in the Texas Hill Country. I take my aircraft to Dugosh for obvious reasons, but a not so obvious reason is that I think the more I make my co-pilot drive out there to drop me off or pick me up, the more likely she is to one day say "Randy, I love it out here in the Hill Couontry, can we sell the house in the city and move out to the country?" Wish me luck.
  14. I was lucky enough to get to drive out to Kerrville and fly my aircraft back to San Antonio yesterday. It WAS a beautiful day for a flight, even a short one.
  15. Spent a nice couple of hours out in Kerrville picking up 6949V after annual and just picking their brains about general Mooney things. Gotta say, I can't imagine a better place to go for Mooney service than Dugosh.
  16. Is there a limit to the number of overhauls you are comfortable with? At some point, do you just replace an engine because of total hours?
  17. Tsk, tsk, tsk. . . Dugosh will work for me.
  18. Damn! I hate it when that happens.
  19. Now this is getting good.
  20. I looked at 52938 on Friday. Not new, but nothing wrong with it that I could see. Be careful, David has some other aircraft that may be irresistable.
  21. If that is the Van Bortel aircraft, be sure to have a look at the logs. Nothing terribly alarming, but there are some gaps if I recall correctly.
  22. How did this proposed group purchase work out?
  23. Quote: Parker_Woodruff Randy, I'd take a good look at this FIKI Mooney Bravo with a recent engine.
  24. I'll ditto Lou Malnati's! We lived out in Schaumburg for a while, and we loved it. We still manage to get the FedEx delivery on occassion.
