  1. Wow, if you fly in stuff like that a lot, you might want to put a G meter in the plane. I mean, at what point do you inspect for damage to the airplane?
  2. Quote: jamesm Do the Nu-lites use the same overhead dimmer that original lights overhead (red) instrutments lights use? Yes, they can. Do they connect then in parallel with my existing instruments? If you mean in parallel with your existing panel lights, then yes they can do that. if so do they cause the original overhead instrument lights to dim? No. They draw very little current, so your other lights should look the same. Does the Nu-lites require a seperate dimmer? No. Thanks in Advance, James '67 M20C
  3. I was going to put in Nu-Lites until my avionics shop turned me on to the electro-luminesent ring lights by UMA. Very similar concept except they use an electro-luminecent technology that lasts for 10s of thousands of hours. They cost the same and they are a little smaller. They layed out the the panel with both brands and with the Nu-Lites it would have required me to cut a bit of the structure for airseed indicator clearence. I wasn't wedded to either, so I said go with the UMAs. I will give a PIREP. Here's the link to UMA's lights. Attached is the CAD drawing showing the difference of the Nu-Lites vs. the UMA lights. The Nu-Lites are outlined in red and the UMAs are in blue.
  4. Sounds like a good plan. Just see if you can check the serial number on the 430. I was told that very early units are not capable of the WAAS upgrade. Check with an avionics shop maybe. Another thought, engine monitoring system?
  5. Quote: 201Pilot Am curious as to why they are such a "hot item". I have been looking at a 231 that has them, both protctive lenses are distorted fro melting by the recognition lights. Why are these desirable if the nav lights, wingtip strobes, and landing lights are functioning properly. The value to these lights would be.....?
  6. Quote: airdogalpha Nice info gents. All much appreciated. C-GMIO (M20j) goes into Maxcraft next week for a new Aspen, and ...sigh... a 650. If it works as avertised I think it should be a pretty good panel, on a machine I truly love. Stay tuned....
  7. Quote: fantom I havn't, but I believe someone here has.....
  8. It's been said and typed many times before, but I'll type it again- It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
  9. Jeez Bennett, you could just jam that gorgous plane into that humongous hanger full speed with your eyes closed while hugging the cowl and be just fine! To the OP- I can give you parking tips. I've been getting by just fine in my funky little shack.
  10. Quote: MikeinFL Ya might want to make sure that the avionic shop knows that it is called "Ram Air" NOT "RamP Air"
  11. Quote: aerobat95 Dave, That should be awesome. I am excited for you. When do you think you will get it back? What kinda down time are you looking at? I am wanting a 430/SL-30 combo as well. Let us know what you think of the MVP-50. I would love to put something like that in my F.
  12. As many here know, I'm rebuilding my panel on my '66 F. The one area I'm not to sure about what to do is fixing the glare shield. I have the LASAR 201 windshield and there is sort of wonky aluminum cover over the avionics. Snapped onto the edge is what I think is the original (?) floppy vinyl glareshield. It doesn't fit the windshield very well and it's kind of weak. I'd like to have something more substantial and ultimately, that I can put either an electro-luminescent strip, or LED strip for illumination. What has anybody else done? What is legal for me to do? I could easily fabricate a better glareshield and get it upholstered. Is this a job for an interior shop? Thanks for the help.
  13. Rob- I read the entire story posted by Magnum about the Powerbook prank. It was fun to read and it's cool that somebody got back at a criminal, but the most telling feature of the story was the prolog. In the end the criminal responded by first sending him a virus, then cyber attacking his website, finally... ? This is what the author of the website that hosts the story wrote at the end- "3) Finally, and most disturbingly, Jeff was not heard from again. I personally e-mailed him for permission to run his story on ZUG, but after an initial response, I never heard from him again. All of his Web sites have come down, and he is nowhere to be found." Before you continue to play with this guy any further, first think of all the factual information this guy has on you, then put this info into Google and see what comes up. Most people (myself included) have way too much personal info out in the ether. Remember, they are criminals and don't play by the same rules we do.
  14. Quote: aerobat95 Very nice....so what all are you putting in? Looks like some big holes on the copilot side...
  15. Here's the photos of the right side test panel they cut for me so far and well as their CAD drawings. More to come.

  17. Quote: KSMooniac I don't think it got beyond the talking stage, and now M20 is trying to sell the whole business. I don't think they have enough inventory right now for a complete kit either, so it is a bit in limbo as far as I know. I've also heard of some fairly major quality problems with recent kits that required lots of extra installation labor to overcome.
  18. This story of flying with only full throttle availble brings to mind the aviators of the first world war. The old rotory engines the early fighter planes had in those days had no throttle. As soon as the engine sparked to life, it was full throttle from then on. This was fine for take off, climb and cruise, but for landing they used to have to use the ignition to turn the motor on and off to maintain glide slope. All landings were dead stick. I wonder if this technique would work in the case of stuck throttle cable on our Mooneys? I can imagine blasting into the traffic pattern, then killing the engine with the ignition and keeping the mixture in. If your glide comes up short, you can quickly switch the engine back on. Interesting to think about, but I hope I never actually have to try this theory.
  19. Does anybody know what is involved, or if it is possible to have one of these lights strobe during day ops for collision avoidance?
  20. I went to OSH last year and really, it seems that if times are hard, perhaps a smaller, more appropiate sized booth would be called for. I'm thinking a small booth in one of the vendor hangars. Something scaled down and perhaps shared with other Mooney vendors. Here's another idea, a display cockpit section. Find a wrecked Mooney fuselage and fix it up so that people can actualy sit in a Mooney. I'm sure there is just such a section out there that could be donated. If it were a long body, it could be rigged to show the difference between the short, mid and long bodies. It seems the number one question a prospective Mooney buyer has is, "Will I fit in it?" The Mooney's performance is well storied, but it's cockpit reputation is probably the #1 reason people fail to even consider an M20x. All of this would be accompanied by hand out performance guides of the different Mooneys and Jimmy Garrison's price guides too. Photo displays showing the differences and maybe a sort of flow chart time line illustrating the changes over the decades. Also a section on all the mods that can be done. Instead of just trying to sell a few shirts and hats, really sell the plane. The more people interested in used Mooneys, the better off we all are. Time to give up the dream of new Mooneys. Not likely to happen. Time to sell the joys of Mooney ownership and the fact that there is nearly an M20 to fit all budgets and most all missions.
  21. Quote: Lionudakis I love the look of polished alum and/or chrome, whats not looked at much is powdercoating. There is powdercoating available now that you couldn't tell the difference from chrome, polished alum, bruched stainless ect. They can resemble any metal finish, from experience probably lessd than 100 bucks; and it will last forever. Just an idea.
  22. Quote: N4352H Delaware Corp. I just sayin.......
  23. Quote: RJBrown I don't know if things have changed since when I sold my Rocket 8 years ago. I sold it to a lawyer in San Francisco. After the prebuy in Stockton we flew together to Las Vegas where he took delivery. After he took delivery we each flew home commercially. He kept it there at North Las Vegas for some time. The sales tax was not due if it spent more than 50% out of state for a certain period of time. I remember that as being 6 months. Saved the guy over $15000 to simply store it out of state for 90 days. Unless this "loophole" has been changed you California residents need to check into it before taking delivery.
  24. Quote: alex Thanks. Is that my new reality until mooneyspace is tweeked?
