  1. I am interested. I went to the website. Just very basic info. I will call at some point, but I'm just wondering what you can tell me about this plane.
  2. Quote: piperpainter Remember you can always add things to your airplane... Ie the 201 window isn't all that common but I installed mine and it took me about a week with help of course. And i love it! Plus you have LASAR just up the road from you!
  3. Quote: ehscott But after more experience in the ownership world I would probably not do it this way again.
  4. Quote: KSMooniac Ken Reed just posted a link for a friend's '66 E that looks like a nice plane to me, and I don't think it is advertised on the major sites right now. I found my J via word-of-mouth locally and got a jump on the process before it was advertised. Good luck!
  5. Just curious, If I buy a M20E with a three blade prop on it, how much credit, or how much do you think it would cost me to go to a two blade prop? Lots of the planes I'm looking at have the three blade on, but for me and the flying I do, a two blade makes more sense. If it's a ton of money, I'll keep the three blade and live with it, but if it's just a bit to swap...
  6. ...the money's in the bank and I'm looking for a M20E. This is my first plane and the purchase process is overwhelming at the moment. I have bought a house, a business and dozens of cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats, many of them older than this plane so I know old vehicles, but this seems like a whole other level of complexity. How does one approach the problem of buying a vintage peice of equipment with all manor of potential nightmares lurking just beneath the surface when they are scattered all over the country? I have joined MAPA and ordered Those Remarkable Mooneys, so hopefully soon I will be even more informed about the gotchas, but the questions are; How do I keep from wasting a lot of money on airline tickets to see junk piles where the owner/broker just lied? How realistic is it to expect that the plane I buy have all the ADs and Mooney specific issues complied with? Is it realistic to think the owner would kick in for a part of the prepurchase/annual at a MSC? Then there is finding a MSC to do the pre buy, title search, tax forms, transition training and ??? What I want: An M20E best fits my mission profile and my budget. There seem to be quite a few on the market, so for now I'm not considering anything else. I have budgeted $75K (even less would be awsome!) for the finished plane and what it must have is: Mid time or lower engine Prop with no AD inspection 201 Windshield Cowl Closure or better Standard 6 pack panel Garmin 430W or better primary King or Garmin NAV/COM/GS secondary Engine Analyzer like the JPI 700 or better, hopefully with Fuel Flow Some type of auto pilot, even if just a wing leveler I have preferences on other things too, but they are negotiable. I don't care much about the paint and interior or lots of other speed mods. The panel is more important to me. I know that I will not find a plane with all of my must haves, so I plan on doing work on the plane to get it there as soon as I buy it. I'm factoring this work into the $75k. How realistic do you think this is? Thanks for the help.
  7. So I guess there's an indicator of some sort somewhere to tell you how many degrees of flaps you have in and you just pump the handle back and forth like a car jack until you get what you need? How many stokes of the handle gets you to full flaps?
  8. I have never flown a plane with hydraulic flaps. How do they work and how reliable are they? Are they easy to use? It seems like anything with hydraulics means leaks. Is it worth it to convert to electric?
  9. The one and only time I got to ride in a Mooney was when the Arrow I was renting broke down at Auburn, CA and a super generous Mooney pilot based there gave me a ride back to Oakland in his '60s F. He had speed brakes on it and demonstrated their use on the VFR decent into Oakland after crossing the Oakland hills which is usually sort of a chop and drop manuever. I thought they were the coolest mod I'd seen on an piston plane . I am now planing my own Mooney and so wondering about options and real world experience. Thanks for the responses.
  10. Anybody have them? Are they worth the money? They seem to me like a very cool and valuable mod.
  11. Quote: flight2000 Not sure, what you had in mind, but here's what the area looks like with the rear bench seat removed. It was out for reupholstering and as mentioned, it is a bear to get in an out. Brian
  12. Thanks Norman for posting the picture of your undersides. I hear about these mods all the time but it is awsome to actually see them in action. Now I more fully inderstand what they mean by "inner doors" and "one piece belly".
  13. I'm a noobie and not even an owner yet, but I am schemeing. Is it possible to just remove the back seat and fly with a large cargo area?
  14. Hi All! I'm Dave and I don't own a Mooney but I have always admired them. If all goes well, next month or perhaps the month after, I will be actively shopping for my first plane. It will be a Mooney. I am not new to aviation, I have been renting for the last 12 years and have a PPL with Insturment ticket. The last 5 years or so have been all Arrow, Cutlass and Skylane. Given my budget, I've settled on an M20E (like just about everyone else these days it seems), would consider an F and maybe a C/D. I'll probably be asking the usual questions and opinions on potentials. With any luck, I'll be changing my avatar soon!
