  1. +1 for Phil. I used Daytona Aircraft Services on a regular basis and they are good folks; however, after finding Phil Jiminez things have changed. He's now my go to guy for any problems I might have. I couldn't get to Maxwell in Texas for my annual this year due to some work commitments and used Phil. He is honest, on time, does good work, knows Mooneys (that's all he works on) and his prices are fair. (954-868-3319)
  2. coy is still there. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago about his 252 conversion...interesting guy
  3. Quote: mrjones30 What would be the advantages of getting a twin over and single? You might be able to convince your non-pilot friends their safer hence relieving their fear of failing out of the sky
  4. Quote: jetdriven i wont let my airplane anywhere near a scale.
  5. You’re not going to be able to do that in a Mooney without a fuel stop.
  6. How in the world is this a negative reflection on general aviation? What it boils down to is simply this…the United States of America is not going to allow an aircraft of any size to become a weapon of mass destruction ever again. Get to close to a building during an event like this and then you don’t respond to ATC radio transmissions or other means of communication and guess what…you’re going to get shot down. Shooting an aircraft down is a last resort not a first one. Be a responsible pilot, know what you’re doing and you don’t have anything to worry about. I read it and see a sensational headline not a negative one pertaining to general aviation.
  7. I’m not a CFI but here is my 2 cents….The tower instruction for you to remain clear of class B supersedes any previous instruction you may have been given. You had to remain clear once told to do so. If you, as PIC, feel any instruction provided by ATC is going to jeopardize the safety or safe outcome of your flight it’s your responsibility to let ATC know. If you would have done that I think ATC at a minimum would have provided you with alternatives to help you achieve your desired goal of being able to land safely by setting up for a stabilized approach.
  8. Two "FROM" radials from two different VOR's and X marks the spot right? It doesn't get much easier then that!
  9. Yep, someone is going to be getting a great plane that’s updated, problem free and a joy to fly. I like it so much that I’m not going to negotiate the price all that much. It's one of the few that’s never been on its belly. I would probably be as content keeping her knowing I have something that's corrosion free with engine compressions which have remained in the 70’s year after year. Never had to cancel a flight due to anything mechanical (knock on wood)
  10. One of the main reasons I sold my 201 was lack of a good two axsis auto pilot and the fact that it needed paint. I didnt want to invest the kind of money required to install an STEC 55X which is the kind of capability i was looking for. After selling my J I upgraded to a 231 with the King KFC 200 A/P which I love and has been problem free. I would now once again like to upgrade to a glass panel Bravo. Am I the only one always wanting to go higher and faster?
  11. I dont know. For that type of cabbage one could purchase an O2 DX with better radios minus the Garmin G500 of course
  12. My vote is NO on the Mooney. I think he should by a 2012 Cessna TTX with the Garmin G2000 touch screen display and take me for a ride (or two) in it. It would be money well spent in my opinion
  13. I use a pretty simple and free method. It's my USAA credit card. The card is dedicated to my flying expenses. Each time a charge involving a new vendor is made I can go on to the USAA web site and create a category/sub-category for the expense. Any future charges will automatically get pushed into the category set up for that vendor so long as the vendors name does not change. The USAA web site will also generate a pie chart for you covering whatever time frame/specifications you set.
  14. I wonder if a change in ownership could mean a loss of the companies MSC status? Not that being an MSC in and of itself really means anything these days. As the old MSC mechanics leave and new ones come in Mooney is not providing any factory specific training to these folks like they used to do. In addition Mooney is not levying any type of requirements on these shops for continued use of the MSC designation. If you were lucky enough to qualify for MSC status 10 years ago you get to keep it today by default I guess?
  15. Quote: Parker_Woodruff Camguard can be used with turbocharged engines. Per Camguard at SnF.
  16. I would be using camguard as I did in my 201;however, it's still not approved for use with tubocharged engines for some reason?
  17. Your good to go. it's an FAA approved additive and in my opinion a plus to run in the 201 in conjunction with the Phillips XC as your doing
  18. Hypoxia and the related symptoms are going to vary from person to person and the severity of those symptoms will also vary based on altitude and a host of other factors to include the person’s physical condition. After a long flight @ 12K I might feel tired w/o O2. If I use the oxygen from takeoff to touch down I actually feel refreshed after the flight. I say 12K because that’s about as high as you could go w/o the O2. I have on occasion turned it on at flights @ 8K when I started to feel a bit tired. At 17K it keeps me alert and I don’t find it to be at all uncomfortable which is something I hear pilots complain about from time to time. The 02 is something I definitely like having in my 231, would never fly w/o it, keeps me feeling fresh at all altitudes and the only negative I could think of is the hassle of having to refill when you get low.
  19. +1 GPS, graphical weather and iPad
  20. Not Possible...sorry
