Thanks Ned...I'll make an appointment to get my eyes checked. I'll write it down on the back of my POH. I have read this POH so many times and today I didn't see it when I wanted to check tire pressure. Thanks all for responding.
-
Unless I'm blind can someone tell me what page the tire pressure is listed in the '65E POH? My 1938 Luscombe POH which is only 8 pages, lists the tire pressure.
-
With respect to 4-ply vs. 6-ply tires. Would the tire pressure increase just because most are now using a 6-ply tire? A 6-ply tire weighs more and the attitude should remain the same sitting on the ground, but I'd like a good reason for increasing the nose wheel pressure to 49 lbs. This is interesting, at least for me.

I have a '65E that has a soft brake. I want to add some fluid. How do I do this?

@ Takair: I spoke with Dawley last week. They don't have any of the hardware. I really thought McMaster-Carr would have them...they have everything else it seems.

I am in the middle of getting new risers and muffler. There are 15 springs which connect the system. I got a price from one vendor who quoted me $100/spring. Of course he thinks either I'm really stupid or have really deep pockets, of which neither is valid. I tried looking in McMaster-Carr and couldn't find a direct replacement, then again, the dumb might have come out in me while looking. So, the question is, who has these springs? I don't want to re-use the old ones.

I too need to replace the exhaust systems. Any updates on this topic?

So, nobody has tried an LED bulb as a drop in replacement for the old 7079B-12 bulb? I have one that is bad and I guess it's time to replace both.

My insurance is also due soon and I have been asked to update my hours. I use the broker IOA Northeast, Inc, Hal Chavarry who has me with Starr Aviation. I also have my Luscombe with them. Too bad Mooney owners can't buy as a group rate.

flap and elevator indicator trim panel
outermarker replied to outermarker's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I took off the trim panel or shall I say it just kept breaking into small pieces until all I had to do was release the two cables. I will say that I don't like having to bend the two cables 90 degrees. That places a lot of stress on the bottom of the trim panel. Has anyone done something different? 1965 was the first year Mooney offered the electric gear. I have three part number(s) inked on the flap trim panel. I suppose one number superseded another with the base number remaining the same...740020-xxx. One number I couldn't make out the last digit, which seemed to be either a 5 or 3. These are the numbers on my part: 740020 - 50(3)? 740020 - 50(5)? 740020-953 740020 - 961 -
@ Turtle...how much time would you say you have invested in changing all the tubing? Is it a job one person can do? Any special tools required? Did you test the system using an external vacuum pump or with the engine running?

flap and elevator indicator trim panel

Will do, thanks for the help. I really didn't think this would be so difficult, I guess I'm learning about replacing parts on old airplanes... -
flap and elevator indicator trim panel

@ Steve65E...I have contacted April and she did ask for the part. I don't even see a part number for this, but the drawing is nice and looks like what I posted, it's from a parts manual that goes up to '64. Anyone have a part # that I can search with? -
Has anyone actually replaced all the hoses and filters on the PC wing leveler and AccTrak systems? I have a feeling that what I have is original and I guess now is a good time to replace everything. I downloaded all the information I could find and it "seems" to be pretty straightforward. So, second, third or even fourth opinions on the labor side, hints, tricks, whatever is very much appreciated before I order tubing.

Thanks, but it's the wrong type.

For some unknown reason (prior owner) the strobe lens is not glass and over time has yellowed, cracked and clouded over.
-
Thanks so much for clearing that up. I was reading the thread and that was the question that came to me. A few minutes ago I downloaded the Mooney PC Operation & Service Instructions Manual and began reading. It's all sticking like oat meal now! thanks!

So, and I'm just thinking out loud here, the wing leveler is always on unless the yoke valve is depressed. Got that. Now, if the AccuTrac system is turned on and it gets its signal from the heading bug which as you said also moves the vacuum driven servos also, could this not create a conflict between the two systems if you turn the trim adjustment knob on the yoke and what you have the heading bug set to? And yes, looking at drawings would clear things up. I know, I know, all the old-time Mooney guys with 1000's of hours are just rolling their eyes with this.
-
I understand that, however, if you turn on the AccuTrak, which is vacuum driven, and the wing leveler is also vacuum driven, with nav 1 selected and using the heading bug to fly a course, you shouldn't have to fly with the release valve on the yoke depressed. That doesn't make sense.
-
If you have a wing leveler (always on) and AccuTrak II, how does the system work? Is there some way to turn off the wing leveler?
-
when going to LED's are you running new wiring to the switch or is it not necessary? I am in need of new strobe lenes if someone has some after they converted to LEDs.

My dad bought a 1957 Mooney M20, 150hp engine in 1961. Sold it a few years later where it sat in a hangar in Chicago for a few years. He bought it back in 1967 and built the metal tail section and rebuilt the wood wing with an IA. Mooney said they had an 8 year old wing that they would re-certify but dad reclined the offer. Dad and I designed the paint scheme, had a new interior and the latest radios installed by 1972. I soloed in that Mooney in 1976 and got my instrument rating a year or two later. Dad sold it around 1980 to a guy in Ind. and six months later Dad received a phone call from the new owner. High winds had collapsed the hangar and destroyed the airplane. I met my wife with that airplane. The biggest costs seemed to be the labor it took to inspect the center section every year. Fabric ailerons and flaps, wood wing and metal fuselage. Yes, I knew how lucky I was to be flying it. However, back in the mid-70's a lot of people felt I was flying old junk. The photo was taken in 1977.

I have a 65 E with a badly brittle and broken flap/elevator trim panel. I called Mooney and they said "nope, sorry." I called a few interior plastic shops and got the same answer, "nope, sorry." So, this is a cry for help. I even called a few salvage yards and got the same answer. What do you guys do when a replacement is needed? I could use a new fuse cover also. albert
