  1. Lol saw mine go by on i5. Long deck wings on deck frame built above with fuse on it. Tail on back of pickup. I don't have the pic on my phone but can email later. It was in the belly of the ferry too.
  2. thanks for posting the drawings! I've got a great little project this week, should keep me busy.
  3. I'm assuming that your trying to avoid the mechanics spitting down your dip stick shaft or peeing in your gas tanks Pilots are generally extremely cheap, nice gesture but definitely not the norm.
  4. Interestingly enough, I was testing the electric trim switch and found the contacts were catching- that would cause a similar issue as runaway trim. Cleaned them and put it back together and now it works good.
  5. OMG who is talking about removing the manual trim system, I am only ADDING electric trim for the convience during take off and landing those big adjustments for flaps gear etc. thats all I want it for. making sudden grabs down to the MANUAL trim wheel bugs me and my passengers, electric would eleviate that. I would still use the manual wheel for small adjustments in flight but they are not sudden and you can gently casually reach your hand down there and make adjustments. I HOPE THAT CLARIFIES THINGS lol... too funny, remove manual trim...EEEK
  6. Adding electric trim - retrofit. Got the parts from a great friend that upgraded to a full autopilot. I've got all the drawings now. Just need to order a few items from Century and it will be a great addition. The biggest complaint I get while flying with family and friends is the darn trim wheel gets in our way. Im not a little guy and most of my friends aren't elves either so the trim wheel is in an akward spot. Electric trim will make a world of difference in my case.
  7. thanks for that! if anyone has any detialed pictures of their electric trim area that would be great. Bill @ mooney sent me some drawings today that I think will work but any extra info is good for all.
  8. I am looking for a wiring diagram for the electric trim system for a 201. Its a century IIB servo. I do not have the autopilot, just the trim motor and switch. I was looking on the internet and came across 2 drawings for the manual electric trim schematic but am unsure if they are correct or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys! 9. My whiskers coax was snipped by the guy who transported my plane to Canada by truck. Totally unnecessary as there was the bnc quick connect 4" away. That stunt forced me to pull the coax up through the tail, take them to an avionics shop and rebuild the coax length to the whiskers. Ps. I had them add an extra few inches in case it was damaged in the future. One thing to make sure is pull a rope or wire up through the tail with the coax if its removed or you will never get a new cable fished down the vertical stab. Point being you would be best suited to pull the towel bar out get a new piece of coax for it and put it back together as is.
  10. http://dx.com/p/1156-10w-900lm-5-led-white-light-car-brake-lamp-10-30v-168835 Tail light base. **** will not fit wingtip lights unless you file off one of the little nipples at base*** I'm not looking for legality comments. You guys are all adults and can make your own calls on what you decide. I think they are incredibly bright and low power demand and something you can leave on all the time with no concern for burnout.
  11. I just want to chime in and say I bought my LEDs overseas and made sure the lumens were high at at least 900lumens. I have not purchased nav strobe bulbs cause I don't need the flash feature and dont want to pay $40/bulb but I can assure you all 10w 900 lumens are atleast 3-4 times brighter than the incandescent s I pulled out. The tail is crazy bright and so are the wingtip lights as seen in my pics. $12/pop. Link below
  12. Just did cycd-kbli Bellingham today. Just have to say. Simple! I encourage all to try cross boarder travel sometime. Also I want to thank command aviation for their generous loaner BMW for the day so we could enjoy Washington. We will be back!
  13. The bulbs are plug and play direct replacement for the originals. 1156 bau15s in tail and 1157 bay15s in wingtips
  14. Ram mount, tried the left yoke for 4 months- sucks cause it blocks your switches and lower 6 pack a bit, mounted it on the right yoke angled left and so far so good. Highly recommend it. Also watch you don't have direct sunlight beating on the ipad for too long, check the back cover and make sure its not hot enought to cook an egg on or it may go into over temp mode and shutdown on you. Other than that, I've been using AIRNAV pro and foreflight and both are great in different ways
  15. Not alot of people know this but YVR has GA friendly weekends....meaning Sat-Sun morning 7-10 am landing fee is only $9-10 rest of the week its $35. I would fly into Pitt Meadows Airport it has a IFR approach, rental cars, is close to the skytrain and burnaby etc. if your not going to be IFR I would fly into Boudary Bay airport. My wife and I fly into boundary bay and Langley airport all the time from the island and its great service at both airports, restaurants, rental cars, cabs. Once you get close enough to the skytrain you get a day pass and can travel very quickly and effeciently all over vancouver and there are some really nice views from the skytrain.
  16. I did a little write up on general mooney discussion this afternoon on LED lights. They are amazing easily twice as bright as originals.
  17. This Saturday I will be crossing the border for the first time from Vancouver Island down to Bellingham Washington for the day, just to get my feet wet. I've done the EAPIS arrival/dep itinerary, customs decal, read all the particulars around notififying customs, flight plans, etc, Does anyone here have any experience travelling between the Seattle Area and Vancouver Area and any helpful thoughts or tips would be great Thanks in advance, Chris
  18. Because I have strobes already on the wingtip, I chose to buy a on/steady/strobe LED for the tail and steady always on LEDS for wingtip, that way the tail will strobe and the wingtips will stay steady and use the strobes to strobe. I got the wintip LED's from a supplier overseas for $12/piece. that are identical in looks, size and specs to the link I posted above
  19. Due to popular demand, I've posted some pictures of LED lights in my gallery, here is a link to them for sale. The fit just fine in the mooney tail assembly, and wingtips. as a bonus they can flash like strobes too. on/steady/ on/off/on in under 3s they will strobe. http://www.navstrobelighting.com/products/Aircraft-Wingtip-Navigation--Light-with-constant-%26-fast-white--strobe%2C-7.5w%2C-13550-LM-LEDs.html http://www.navstrobelighting.com/products/Aircraft-Tailfin-Navigation-Light-with-constant-%26-fast-white-strobe%2C-7.5w%2C-13350-LM-LEDs.html you can get these at Spruce but skip the middle man. Just in case this comment gets brought up.. United States (FAA) FAR Part 43, Appendix A, Paragraph C Preventive maintenance is limited to the following work, provided it does not involve complex assembly operations: Replacing bulbs, reflectors, and lenses of position and landing lights. All the tailfin bulbs meet FAA requirment as per: AC No: 20-74 Canada (Transport Canada) CARs 2012-1 Section 17, under Part VI Navigation Bulb installation is deemed as 'Elementry work' "Hence, it need not be performed by a holder of an AME licence. The owner is responsible to authorize who may perform the elementry work." All the tailfin bulbs meet TC requirment as per: Part V - Chapter 523, Subchapter F, 523-VLA.1393
  20. So a few months ago my Par46 galaxy POS bulb burnt out as I was doing a "dusk" landing. I've been pondering switching to LED for a while now looking at all the options, HID, tractor LED's, build my own system etc. All too complicated in my opinion, Keep it simple under the cowling is my final thought so I went with Whelen Parmetheus Par46 from aircraftspruce for $280. Done. I installed it and will "cross my fingers" never have to worry about it again. Love the next to zero power draw. - I've also switched out my tail light and nav lights for LED's too. total cost $60. Here are some pictures of what I went with. The results are amazing brightness and extremly low power draw on the plane. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/album/13752-final-flying/
