  2. Hey Guys, So I've been downloading my engine data since installing my CGR-30P by EI, I have to say what a great engine monitor..Its been installed now for 4 months and am really impressed. Im hoping some folks can have a look at my attached engine analysis I put onto Mike Busch website Savvyaviator Im curious what the general thoughts are if my engine data looks good, bad, ugly? Ive got a good snapshot of when I took it lean of peak. I notice that in climb. Cyl 3 is hottest. and when switching to LOP it goes to number 1 cylinder and doesnt peak at the same time, even though my gami spread is .1-.2 between 3-2-4-1 normally in that order. when I fly lean of peak down low and pull the power back to below %65 it likes it and flys great no engine stumbling at all.. I notice when I fly up to 10,000 feet to cross the rockies, and fly WOT and 2400 and pull back to lean of peak it seems to never want to peak before it stumbles and runs rough.. I cant figure out for the life of me why it does this. I have tried pulling the throttle back a smidge to create some turbulance into the throttle body with no dice. Anybody else experience good LOP ops at low altitude but struggle to do it at high altitude.??? thanks for any input...just a note the engine and fuel injection system are all new. chris
  3. I don't think so Fuel tank size difference Hardware inside wing is different Ask mooney to confirm
  4. The mooney cargo hauler, just think how many iphones and ipods you can fit in the cargo hold...hundreds of thousands of dollars worth....I would love to know why mooney america says one thing and mooney china says another.... i think there's a conspiracy...hmmm
  5. http://english.cri.cn/6826/2013/11/05/2941s796559.htm Zhengzhou, in central China's Henan province, has been transitioning from a railway-pivoted economy to an aviation-oriented one, since it was approved as the nation's first airport comprehensive economic zone by the State Council, China's Cabinet, in March 2013. The economic zone covers a total area of 415 square kilometers, with Zhengzhou's Xinzheng International Airport as its center. The airport is the first and only airport for connecting mainland cargo flights with overseas ones. The first flight carrying electronic products successfully completed its course between Zhengzhou and Taipei, Taiwan on October 19, marking the success of the route. Flights between Taipei, Nanjing and Zhengzhou will run every Saturday. Song Xiangqing from the Commerce Economy Association of Henan Province says the new route significantly reduces the cost and time required to transfer cargoes between Henan and Taiwan. "This direct route between Zhengzhou and Taipei promises a new outlook for cooperation between Henan province and Taiwan," Song says. Chen Meng from the Zhengzhou branch of Shanghai's CEVA Logistics says that thanks to the flights, they can deliver the latest products to their clients, which are mainly Apple retailers. "The products can arrive in Taipei the same day they come out of the factory, and we ship them to countries in the Americas. We save at least one or two days on delivery, which allows us to meet clients' demands faster." With the acquisition of US manufacturer Mooney Aviation by Henan's Meijing Group, two M20 aircraft arrived at the Xinzheng International Airport on October 22. The M20s are piston-powered, propeller-driven small aircraft and currently cost 1 million US dollars, or over 6 million yuan, to produce, but will cost less than 5 million yuan if manufactured in China. The Meijing Group will work with US aviation design groups to produce airplane parts. Mooney Aviation's CEO Chen Zhengyuan says they will first resume aircraft manufacturing in the US and then focus on private planes targeted at the Chinese market. "We hope to build plane models which are suitable for China and move our manufacturing base here. We are laying the foundations for this and will keep working towards it," Chen says. Twenty-one more flight routes are expected to open, connecting Zhengzhou with destinations in Asia, Europe, America and Oceania. With geographical advantages and rich human resources, Professor John Kasarda from the University of North Carolina, who proposed the "Aerotropolis theory", believes Zhengzhou's airport comprehensive economic zone has bright prospects for development.
  6. I installed myself. Ap apprentice. Had it signed out by mechanic. Another hour of paperwork. The whole job reading instructions to log books filled out is 15 hours. 2 days. Very impressed with quality. All probes and sensors included I posted on this back when I was at osh. I went to buy a jpi 830 for 3k. Bought the cgr 30 instead for 3.2k and it's primary. It's totally a no brainer. Jpi was rude and ignorant at Oshkosh and were unwilling to comment on their overpriced 930.
  7. Cgr-30p installed in 201. Ripped out all the old gauges. Works awesome very intuitive and only took 14 hours to install. Has Rop finder and Lop finder very easy. Is essentially a mini MVP-50 $3400 certified primary for all gauges in. 201. Fuel flow. All pressure transducers included in price As is oat. Egt cht. Amps volts tach time flight time clock zulu time and the kitchen sink.
  8. Guys let's have a mooney to vargas fly in fall spring and summer are are good but it does get foggy there how cool of picture would that be
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvuoOf2R9jU Heres my local flying clubs trip to Vargas Island. Its a good video. It will help dispell any ney-sayers
  10. Because I have huge respect for all you guys I felt it necessary to back up some of my comments with some follow up info, then im done It takes on average 2000-3000 hrs for a 4 place experimental to be build by joe blow in his garage (not referring to quick build kits)... Why is it so hard to believe that mooney couldn't build a 4 place certified in the same time frame with factory trained experts, proper specific purpose built tooling and jigs and a factory assembly line (sort of)? When Chad told me 2500 that made perfect sense to me...4000 hours definitly seemed wasteful. it was 3 years ago so if my facts are off I apoligize but I do remember standing on the floor reading a board as they tracked that and displayed the stats near the tail cone assembly area on the factory floor. Regarding my comment on shutting down long ago if they were that wasteful, what I meant is There would have been no 90's and 2000's for mooney if they were that bad. Please help me to understand light airplanes cost structure... I was looking back at a chart on the cost per year of the aircraft: early 90's you could have a mooney for 130,000 by the early 2000's you were at 300,000 by the late 2000's they were pushing double that over 600,000. look at the automotive industry example during that same time... early 90's toyota camry new off the floor, 15,000 early 2000's toyota camry....20,000 late 2000's toyota camry....30,000 Same processes to build but more effecient...my point is. you still have a metal frame, engine, interior, 4 tires, etc etc. car/airplane whatever. average household income early 90's $40,800 average household income early 2000's $45,000 average household income late 2000's $50,000 Look at it this way...If I bought a 1990 mooney for 130,000 it would roughly have been 3 years of my wages. If I were to buy that mooney a few years ago that would have been roughly 12 solid years of my wages. scary stats....info pulled from wikipedia.
  11. When I went for a factory tour in 2010 the production manager told me with great pride they were able to get the man hours to build a mooney down to 2500. Ill guarantee mooney was not costing out tge staff at 50 probably 20hour plus 10 in insurance and benifits call it $30/hour x 2500 $75000 labor probably another $75000 in stamped parts skins rivets etc and materials theres no way the structure was costing mooney over 250k or they would have been broke loooong ago
  12. you know the prop's gotta come off to replace that right.. thats about a 2-4 hour job total...plus an oil mess...I dont know if I would carry a spare alt. belt for a const. speed engine. PITA and if it does break...a mechainic nearby will most likely have one as they are very standard.
  13. I think that is a fantastic idea. New thread maybe? Tools to service basics while away I won't carry a spare alt, starter mags etc those are considered 500-2000 hr items but a few handy tools?
  14. Location- remote but within cell service and radio contact to nearest tower Birds- didn't see any Fly over first - mandatory unless the movie castaway is your thing Rules- regs say it's legal. Just can't be a national or provincial park and full of people. Then it's jail time and fines. States is same watch flying Alaska show on discovery they land all over the place. It's up to each pilot to read the rules on where they can land. Hope that helps Jamie
  15. When I look at other manufacturers I see different models with different options that vary enough to give you a price differential of hundreds of thousands of dollars case in point cessna Cessna TTx loaded to the nuts 800 grand Cessna 182 medium loaded 550,000 Cessna 172 medium loaded 400 grand Cessna skycather- a Joke Then mooney Acclaim 800 grand O3 probably 700 grand 02 ? what the hell is the diff between the 2?? dont know engine ? my point is if mooney is serious about making a play to comeback there needs to be more than 3 identical or close enough to the average joe to call identical planes to sell. I know the fuselage price diff from a long body to medium body is not much maybe 10 grand. so thats a non issue. But I know there would be alot of interest in the medium body normally aspirated version . maybe aspen or g500 ....basic no huge frills. aspen cost 10k engine monitor EGR-30. 4K autopilot 15k gtn 650 10k second com 2k total instruments and switches maybe another 10k total for panel 50K new io-360? 50K airframe materials and labor 150K (I would say realistic) so thats cost 250K per new medium body, medium equiped airframe that Im sure mooney could sell all day long So they sell them for 325-350...thats a handsome profit in my mind, and the parts business for the next 30-50 years on that new plane ?? another 50K? I hope Jerry reads this...Super nice guy met him at osh....been to the factory for a tour a few years back. Im not a aeronautical engineer but I did stay at a holiday inn last night. Just saying in doesnt have to be the fastest, but a new car smell feel touch for good economy, in a shitty economy goes a long way. any body else have similar thoughts?
  16. Golly, I get my own post, I feel special..... this was my first sand landing. to answer a few questions.... Sand was like concrete, land on grey sand, that has just dried enough, that salt water didnt spit up all over the plane. when I got home and had the hose ready I crawled up underneath the wheel well to assess the " sandamage" Surprisingly....only a bit of sand spit up at the flaps, the wheel wells were completely clean, I rinsed them well regardless..it added a total of 5-10 min to my day...woopdeedoo.. I was totally impressed...(I do have the wheel well mud flaps though, so I know that helps.) The wheel hubs or anything didnt even see sand.. Trust me I just spent 3 years restoring my 201, with new paint, interior, engine prop, etc etc etc, if I thought the sandling would even scratch the paint I wouldnt have done it. So to all you non-believers I say......your loss....I've got the beach all to myself then... But with that said I welcome anyone to come try it out. Nanaimo airport just 20 min north of seattle has customs clearance, and its 35 min to 3 magnificant beaches from there...good salmon fishing and whale watching too. Vargas Island _mooney friendly Nootka Island _ 172 and tail dragger friendly There are some youtube clips and even wings over canada tv show with beach landings.
  17. Hey guys Some of the beaches out here on the west coast are very popular places to land a plane on. The sand just as the tide goes out is like landing on a concrete surface and very very smooth. You just approach with a soft field technique and all is well. The few popular beaches around here have had glasairs lancairs etc use them as well. I would say even an ovation or acclaim would have no problems landing or taking off. Your at sea level with about 8000 feet of usable surface. This was taken at Vargas island near tofino on the west coast of Vancouver island. About a 50 min mooney ride from seattle
  18. My wife always sits in the back seat of the J, its a bench with new leather upholstery and bolstering, she says its more comfortable than being in the front with me We've gone for 3-4 hour trips with no complaints.
  19. In Canada it's called running the engine on condition and as long as it checks out the AME doing the annual signs it out for private and commercial use. I know a flying school that runs their engines well into the 2500-3000 hr range
  20. Interesting website I came across today. I have no idea how long ago these guys did a concept interior for mooney. Here's the link to their website http://robrady.com/design-project/mooney-aviation-company-interior-cockpit-design
  21. yup my 77J same problem with the heavy gauge aluminum brackets flexing out and not seating back on the roller slots. PAIN IN THE ASS!!! I just pulled my passenger seat out last week and used a crescent wrench to adjust it a few tweaks back in place. It works good now, but I find the passenger seat gets way more abuse. It only takes 5 minutes to pull the seats out so I have just decided that its a fact of life to readjust this once and a while. I would be interested in a "fix"
  22. I have the spot connect that connect to my iphone. I can send personal emails to friends and family to advise of departure and arrival. And enroute info. It's $99 and $99 a year subscription. The new spot coming out this fall will have the ability to report every 3-5-10 minutes from what I remember at Oshkosh. Much better for mooney tracking. Your spot sends out a web page link with bread crumb trails on google maps . It's excellent.
