  1. Let me know how you like it, I've got to do a complete interior in my 201 and like I said want to install 2 of them during the upholstery stage. Chris
  2. Regarding an STC etc, Im not so sure its required as lumbar is no more relavent to the type certificate of the aircraft as adding cupholders to the centre column. With that said Im not an A&P yet and don't have that info, if you check with the company's website they may have more info. Personally Im going to install two of them in my 20J front seats. To me all that matters is they are made of rubber that passes FAR23.853 flame-test requirement, which they are. When they are installed all your going to see is the bulbs for pumping them up, to me they are just an extension of the foam you are installing in your seat back right and that foam just has to meat the flame test and they are only $84 for a set. Just my two cents.
  3. Bob, try this website, might be cheaper to buy new than to fix. http://www.sptpanel.com/inflatable_lumbar_support.htm
  4. I am going with Great Lake Aero for my new glass. gray sides and dark gray for my two rear windows. My windshield is already 1/4" grey. The website is http://www.glapinc.com/ There is a quick catalog on their site to your make and serial number to get the right ones.
  5. I've got a 77 20J with the dukes 40-1 heavy duty gear actuator, after inspection it was noted the armature needs to be turned and the brushes are worn on the motor, does anyone know where I can get new brushes, caps and barrels as the cap is glued/sealed into the barrel and appears to be a replaceable part versus repairable. Anyone out there go through the same issue, I will try and include pictures tomorrow.
  6. Hey group, Im going to be in Orlando next week on vacation, would like to meet some other folks from the group. Possibly go for a tour around. Let me know if anything will work.
  7. Hey there, I've got a 201 that Im currently restoring and was taking the wing inspection panels off for cleaning and noticed very light surface corrossion throughout the wing, I was wondering if this is common for a late 70's mooney and if its fine or if it needs attention, Ive attached pictures, any comments would be much appreciated.
  8. Hello, Regarding building a hangar, I've got a hangar rental company on Vancouver island, the building is 50x60 with a 48 x 12 foot bifold electric door with autolatches from Sweiss Doors in Minnesota. The door frame, motor and accessories were $10,000 alone, the whole building which is a RMsteel building out of caldwell idaho was only another $20,000. In my opinion I would look for a different hangar or build your own its easy I had a couple of helpers and we took 7 days to fully erect the building, not including the time to build the foundation which I contracted out.

  10. Dukes fuel selector and both roof comm. antennas from 77 M20J available on ebaymotors
  11. With all do respect to your friend regarding the 177RG purchase, thats a relativly uncommon thing to have an unreported issue with a gear up, you have to report any prop strikes or incidents/accidents as you do in any other country, its whether or not the pilot followed through with that. On that note, I have heard many horror stories of aircraft being imported from the US into Canada with hidden problems, back yard engine overhauls, and fudged documents. I think it happens everywhere and Im not saying that canadian planes are any better but from talking to maintenance engineers with 30 years experience thats the feedback I got (of course there is bias there on their parts) , as I've now imported 2 aircraft from the US into canada, as repair/rebuild projects so I can go through them with a fine tooth comb. There is a reporting system, for incidents in canada like the FAA, google CADORS and you can search aircraft accidents/incidents back to 1994 (or earlier) I believe.
  12. Hey guys, regarding an import to the US. Its not painful at all. Bill of sale, import inspection by an A&P submit to FAA and get your US C of A. Its easy. Its done every day between Canada and the US. Transport Canada is actually more stringent on aircraft certification and standards than the FAA. All Canadian Aircraft follow the same AD's, service bulletins etc as the US plus more.
  13. Hey Im working on my 76 M20J restoration and the fuel selector valve is in the notorious position under the pilots legs, unsafe in my opinion. Anyways Im curious if anyone has relocated their selector valve to the center console between the seats like on the 77 and newer models. It doesn't look there is any room with the aileron control cable there.
  14. Thanks for all your great comments on here, I got a quote to repair the damaged skins and formers $2200. I believe the 1 piece belly is $3500 so if theres no speed increase and maintence is a negligable, I would rather have a metal belly anyday over fibreglass. But that carbon fibre mod looks interesting (thanks for the tip). The front gear doors to replace were quoted at $1680 does anyone know where I can get the mod ones cheaper that seal better? BTW this is a fantastic site!
  15. Hi I recently purchased a 76 M20J that was involved in a belly up landing, instead of fixing the sheet metal and front gear door I was looking at the mods available for these, Im struggling to understand the value of $4000 for the smooth belly from Lasar and the $1500 kit from SWTA in texas, if anyone has some experience with the smooth belly, which is best, most affordable etc any info would help, also I saw somewhere you can get the front gear doors larger than factory that overlap more for better sealing and noise levels can someone offer some advice on these two items.
