  1. Anybody using the Fly Q EFB on an Ipad? Just wondering I have been playing around with it a bit but havent really used it just yet.
  2. I thought I had read there is an airshow or some type of aviation event in Alabama in a couple of weeks. I have searched and cant find it. Anyone else read or know of such?
  3. I have about 400 hr in a C and it was modified. Had everything a j had but the big emp, longer tail cone electric gear and fuel injection, and really thought about trading for a J at one point. Seemed like the longer I kept it the less advantage I saw of trading for a E, J, or even a K. I went on a trip to KHSE following a K and I made the round trip with no fuel stops. When we arrived at Hatteras I was entering the pattern when 234JP was taxiing to tie down. I was 164kt gs on eastbound run and less than 5 minutes between the 231 and me. On the way home he bought fuel I did not and I beat him to the hangar. So I just really found it hard to part with my antique C model Mooney. I finally broke down and moved up but I went to the big TCM and to tell you the truth unless it's in hard IFR it not really anymore fun to fly than 880, and I won't be visiting any short unimproved strips with the long body. So I guess it's all in what you want. I see nothing wrong with upgrading but be sure it's a step up and not sideways.

    OH !

Oh I know why it was repainted, I was there during the process and picked out the paint.
  5. I was wonder why I have never seen De-ice boots on a Mooney. I would guess TKS would probably work better but still seems like the boots would be an easier install than TKS and if it would work why dont we see it?
  6. Here it is....... http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/gangsters_outlaws/gang/dd_fall_of_andrew_c_thornton_ii_the_company/1_index.html
  7. If he wanted he could have had everyone going with one helluve a story! Like seeing suspicious looking Latinos poking around his plane. When he went up they drive off in black Ferrari one was toting an AR15. I'd think a 201 w/monroys would be an excellent vehicle for that kind of thing. I remember back in the 80's a man was found dead in a neighborhood one morning near KDKX dressed in all black with a parachute, I don't remember the details but it was drug related gone wrong. Can't remember if he was over weight for the chute or what but he hit terra firma at a high rate of speed with white powder and $$$$$. Ya never know what you'll run into these days.
  8. I have heard this many times, " Wow its pretty comfortable once I finally got in it and streched my legs out." So, seems to me the thing is to learn a comfortable way to get in and out. I get my feet in first and hold on with my right hand on the tube in front working my way over to the left seat feet first. If I am going to the right seat I get my feet in and go from there. I usually back out to make my exit. Ive also heard people say it sets different. You set in a reclined position. Last time I rode in a C-172 I felt like I was setting on top of a bar stool. Mooneys may have been born in Texas but if ya wanna wear a Stetson while flying get a B or C not a Mooney.
  9. 96 Ovation Max Gross Take Off Weight - 3368 Max Gross Landing Weight - 3200
  10. On my bird the POH says you have to burn off 168lbs or lose 168lbs before landing if take off is made at gross weight.
  11. Sitting low compounds the lack of situational awareness and really makes it easy to get turned around. That's why I had the periscope mod installed, works great!
  12. I bought a G-35 and it lasted almost 4 years however it puked acid out in my battery box on a VERY regular basis and I followed the instructions to the letter on putting in the acid. No more Gills I have Concorde sealed in the O and yes they are more to replace but ya wanna buy batteries AND battery boxes? or just buy a good battery?
  13. Wonder which one of those "Deadlist Catch" s a pilot?
  14. If the baffling is still good and stiff I usually set the top cowling on the baffling with it a couple of inches back towards the windshield then I push it down and forward at the same time so the baffle seal rolls forward. If you are careful you can do it without scratching paint.
  15. The whole point of ethanol in gas is to reduce the mpg we get. Road use taxes are calculated by per gallons used. Vehicle mpg has increased over the years resulting in fewer tax dollars per road mile driven. So the green tale begins, its better for the environment. Is it really? How much diesel fuel is burned to plow, till, irrigate, harvest, transport, distill, transport to refinery, blend etc. How is it more efficient overall? There is no way it can be. What will it do to the price of food? What a big lie!
  16. Same as automobiles but higher stakes.
  17. BTW if you dont have Mooney experience I strongly suggest you choose an instructor who has LOTS of Mooney experience and has experience with the long body. Just sayin.....
  18. Damage history will hurt the resale yes but the older the history isnt as much a hit as recent history. The biggest concern IMHO is the repairs and documentation. Were the repairs made properly, was EVERYTHING repaired? Often times people cut corners and dont document repairs and this can and usually does make for most unpleasant suprises later down the road. If a plane has been on its belly I'd look to see what was done with the engine. Also I'd go over the logbooks and try to find photos of the accident before repairs they can tell you a lot.
  19. Never understood why the Feds have to investigate every GA plane crash. Seems like the state would have their own aviation investigation team.
  20. The original cowl imho would have to work better on the E because of the carb heat box/valve is so close to the bottom of the cowl mine used to rub a hole through the scat hose at about 25 or 30 hrs. I'd always keep extra hose around and put a second layer over the place where it rubs, (minus the steel wire inside), only took a piece about 3 inches long. Always wanted/dreamed of a forward facing intake and injection. Superior makes one, plus inter cooler and TN .......lol never satisfied are we?
  21. Would be nice if there was an after market kit available for converting to the 201 cowl. It wouldnt be simple as there is more to it than just the cowl itself. 880 had the original 201 cowling mod done by the MOD SQUAD when they were in Fenton Mo. they did a nice job but as I said there is a lot more to it than just the cowl. Some of what had to be changed are: oil cooler, air filter, oil cooler hoses, scat hoses to the oil cooler, scat hoses from air filter to carb heat box, scat hose from heat muff to carb heat valve, air intake from baffling to muffler shroud, scat hose from muffler to cabin heat valve, landing light wiring, engine baffling, Carb heat valve/box, carb heat air vent on underside of cowling, spinner, spinner bulkhead and maybe more stuff I am not aware of. I guess it just depends on how much you feel like putting into an old airplane. I sure loved my short body and if there was anyway possible to retain my current marital status and keep 880 and the "O" I would have two planes right now. Hard to part with a plane that costs like a C-172 and cruises almost 150 Kt. It is for sale on barnstormers right now if anyone is interested. I know every nook and cranny of her for sure.
  22. If you have an instructor that continually monkeys with the trim wheel on final or climb out, just catch his fingers on the trim wheel when you raise or lower the gear, I can promise after that, he will leave the trime alone. lol
  23. Wow the floor sure doesnt look that rough.
