  1. That looks like difficult work. Call "Dirty Jobs," it will be great exposure for your business and Mooneys!
  2. Quote: jelswick Am I alone in preferring the tactile feel of my 430W's buttons and knobs? My biggest hope out of this is that it brings 530 prices down so that I can afford to add one of those to the 430 in my current stack. Touch screen is a nice idea in my car, but I've been in enough turbulence that I'd rather have the click of the knob vs trying to hit the right spot on a touch screen to tune a frequency when getting bounced around. I'm even happy they couldn't flush mount my Aspens now since I can steady my hand against it's rim while hitting the right button. Afraid I might be becoming a bit antiquated if I'm not excited about this move, but I personally would prefer the 530 to what I saw them roll out and am not looking forward to everything going to touch screen.
  3. Quote: Hank I am part of the many pilots with a 430 and no "touch screen need" but a strong weather display desire. Yes, I have a stormscope but would like better. Thus, I "need" the $1799 + shipping + tax Aera, or a used-but-bulky 396/496 or something else. As I understand it, the Aera does not have all of the extra wires, antenna, etc., that the x96 and competition have. Is there anything else compact and neat?
  4. Quote: Jeff_S Well, let's not confuse things. As a marketer by profession, I would argue against the above statement...the fact is it was VERY effective marketing because it got everyone's attention. You all know what the GTN series is now! So my colleagues in Garmin's marketing department did an excellent job. I will agree, however, that the substance of the product is a bit of a yawner. Looks like they took the aera functionality and put it into the panel. So it's an evolutionary step, and one that somebody shopping for new equipment to replace 40 year old boxes will enjoy. But maybe not substantial enough for someone with a fairly recent upgrade to think about swapping out, when buying a $2000 aera will probably give just as much benefit.
  5. Not impressed. Ill mount an Aera above my 430W and pretend I spent 10Xs as much.
  6. 2000 PST... Check out Aero News website for some live coverage.
  7. Mark, I just sent you an email with an attached quote that I received from Aerocomfot.
  8. A little under 1AMU is the answer for fuel transducer issues. My mechanic had to do a lot of calibration work to get it working properly, but everything is good to go now. If someone needs some more detailed information let me know and I can give my mechanic a call. And no, the transducer is not made of solid gold.
  9. I will be at FLV for about 3 years so our paths will definitely cross. I plan on keeping it on post and Im looking forward to having the plane within a few miles of my house. Let me know when you get back in the states and we'll link up.
  10. Ill be in Leavenworth in May for the next three months or so with my Mooney in tow. If your Mooney is still in Kansas at that time and you need any help with it, let me know.
  11. Quote: flyboy0681 Actually, look no further than voice recognition when calling your favorite airline. I still can't believe that decision makers allow these systems to be used when pressing the keypad is infinitely more accurate - and desirable.
  12. I spoke to him today and I was thoroughly impressed. He owes me a price list and some pictures tonight, which I am anxiously awaiting. After my move to Kansas this spring, I am definitely going to use him to spruce up my tired interior. Please let us know how it works out for you...
  13. How much work are you having done with them? Can you share the estimated cost with us (or privately via PM)?
  14. Good PCS move. I was wondering, are you flying your Mooney in Saudi?
  15. Really? I find that the nexrad on XM can be several (up to 10) minutes old. When trying to navigate around those summer thunderstorms, I think the stormscope AND XM weather is your best bet.
  16. I have absolutely no idea what any of that means.
  17. Nothing but good things to say about them. They were straight forward and a pleasure to deal with.
  18. Quote: tyrefoote I'm having an issue with my KFC 150 also, In the heading mode it seems to track the far left side of the heading bug. Does anyone know if this is normal or is something else wrong ? It works fine and the self test seems to indicate it's ok.
  19. New iPad has a three axis gyro built into it... Interested to see what can be done with that aviation wise.
  20. Now you are talking. The biggest issue with that aircraft is the lack of a modern IFR GPS. I have a feeling in about a month, you will be able to get a 430 pretty cheap. Obviously, I have no idea what the mechanical condition of the plane is, but there are plenty of great shops in FL that can look at it for you.
  21. Quote: allsmiles Considering today's economic climate the asking price for this particular airplane is absurd!
  22. Quote: N6784N im not trying to be negative about the ipad but its really not for aviaiton use. when a handheld gps is designed for aviation the map moves under the aircraft while the aircraft stays stationary in the middle of the screen.
  23. Thanks, that looks great. I think I am going to hold out for a foreflight XM solution.
  24. Just need to get XM weather onto the iPad and we will be good to go.
  25. I think that is way overpriced. Unless the GWI is important to you (don't know if that aircraft has it) what is the operational difference between a 1994 and 1984 that you could purchase for 50K less? You are into 252 territory at that price and you get the added capability of turbo and possible FIKI retrofit.
