I tell you the photos and the video are just stunning, and a testament to the strength of the Mooney "wing". Wow. I hope all recover fully. My thoughts are with the pilot and passengers.

I keep forgetting to mention the "Wheel of Fortune" Roulette-type wheel that Oceano Fuel is offering. Simply call the truck on 123.45 and they will deliver fuel right to you. Tell them how much fuel you would like, then spin the wheel. Every space has a winner, including one "free fuel" space. Sounds like fun for all. The weather looks to be holding... 58 degrees and mostly sunny. Bring your fleece jacket and come celebrate General Aviation with us. http://www.FriendsofOceanoAirport.com Jolie -

Fly-In Movie Night, L52 Oceano, CA April 30th
mooneygirl replied to mooneygirl's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Actually that landing was after a go-round right before. The wind was about 10, a little bit of a cross wind. Many of the airplanes landed about the same time, but this person had more difficulty. The red tail dragger just greased it on, as did Michael Baraz in the Rocket. Mitch has been on a roll in the mighty Ovation at Oceano. I will give myself a B- average, but I think it is a mind-thing more than a Mooney thing. Come see us for Celebration Day. I have your sweatshirts! -
Fly-In Movie Night, L52 Oceano, CA April 30th
mooneygirl replied to mooneygirl's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Fly-In Movie night took place on April 30th. Attendees had to brave 83 degree weather during the day and 50 degrees after dark! Over a dozen airplanes joined us at Oceano Airport and we had 30-40 in the campground to enjoy the movies. We showed a trailer from the upcoming commercial film" A Pilot's Story" http://www.apilotsstory.com/ we also screened an episode of "Sky King" a television series from the 50s. Our main feature was Zero Hour, an aviation classic. Many folks recognized right away that Zero Hour is the movie that Airplane! chose to spoof. It was fun to hear some of the classic lines, and blurt out the lines from Airplane! Hot dogs, s'mores and popcorn were generously provided by the event sponsor The Sparks Aviation Foundation. With perfect weather and a perfectly groomed campground thanks to our volunteers, the afternoon and evening was very special. The Santa Maria Valley 99s and the Friends of Oceano Airport would like to invite all to the Oceano Airport Celebration Day: A Salute to our Veterans: May 14th 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. All welcome, free admission. To Volunteer or be placed on our email list, please visit our website: http://www.FriendsofOceanoAirport.com Here is the link to the YouTube Video: -

Upcoming Ambassador Events Vidalia Onion Festival Airshow, KVDI, April 30-May 1st, 2011, Vidalia Georgia. Each spring, Vidalia anticipates the harvest of Georgia's Official State Vegetable, the internationally known Vidalia Sweet Onion. The occasion is celebrated with an array of fun-filled activities. The excitement builds with the Vidalia Onion Festival Airshow with its aerobatics and precision flying. Come and join the fun with the Ambassadors! Point Person: Jeff Schlueter: jeff@schlueter.net For more general information about the event: http://www.vidaliaonionfestival.com Aeros and Autos-Ellington Field/Houston KEFD May 7th, 2011. Benefit for USO and Lion's Camps Aeros & Autos and is at Ellington Field — here is a link. http://www.fly2houston.com/aerosandautos. This is a big event and generally attracts 150 to 200 cars. The aircraft display, since this is where all of the NASA planes are based, is also impressive. You have a chance to see a huge array of the planes that your tax dollars have supplied. In addition, the Coast Guard also has a presence there so they had several helicopters that you could explore your way through if you need something beyond a fixed wing. Last year we had at B-17, a B-25 and a T-6 Texan that were giving rides through the Galveston Museum of Flight. I flew in the B-17 and my ears are still ringing. And since Ellington is home to two flight schools there will likely be a Grumman Tiger, a group of Cheetah's and a few Cirri. I also remember that there was a, E Model Mooney that was used by US Customs and was painted in a camouflage scheme. If you are interested in coming in please let me know as the Airport would like to estimate our interest as soon as reasonably possible. The Airport would like you there by 8:00 a.m. at the latest (plan 7:30) and you will generally need to stay there till 4:00 p.m. If the ramp is crowded with people it will be difficult to depart early. There will be several vendors there serving food and drinks so you don't have to worry about hunger or thirst. Point Person Eric Lipper : elipper@sbcglobal.net Ambassador Wear If you would like to get a t-shirt or sweatshirt, please let us know at MooneyAmbassadors@charter.net. T-shirts: $15 Sweatshirts: $35 includes shipping. All the hipsters are wearing Ambassador wear! -
I have been to the Azores, as I am 1/2 Portuguese [and ancestors hail from the Azores]. Sub-tropical, lovely, horse drawn carts. Way to go Carol Ann. She is a champion for ALS.

We will be going this year. And I believe a Mooney BBQ is being planned. Who else is coming to AV?

I wonder if there is a way to contact the FBI or other authorities. Seems like a shame that someone else might be victimized. There are real jerks out there. Luckily most folks get what they deserve in the end. Karma.

I can't post to Mooney Space on my ipad either. Strange because I can type on other sites. Particularly hard when travelling and want to post, but only have the pad.

Here is the video from today's Girl Scouts with Wings Event: We had 85 degree weather with only light wind. WOW, is that perfect or what? Just under 40 girls participated. Why not have a fun event at your airport? It was so rewarding.

Just in case any California pilots need a $100 lunch... We have Girl Scouts with Wings going on today at L52 Oceano Airport. I am parked to a Mooney that has teeth. Seriously maybe a Bravo or Ovation with the Jaws teeth. Anyway, I digress... SkyDive Pismo Beach is launching divers. JR Smith is flying rides in the Super Stearman. And I am a volunteer doing a pre-flight and photo op with the 50 girls. They will be learning about aerodynamics, careers in aviation, mechanics and how to become a pilot [that is me again.] Should be a ton of fun. Sponsored by the SBP 99s with support from the Friends of Oceano Airport. Fun, free, a couple Mooneys on the ramp, one with teeth....need I say more?

Hey Kelly, The scouts are just great. I know they did a big event at Santa Monica. These are the types of events we need to keep doing to get kids interested in aviation, and grown up interested in protecting airports! New motorcycle: You will have to ask Mitch! I still don't fly the Ovation often! HA

Instructive experience of the week
mooneygirl replied to BorealOne's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
You did a wonderful job, and flew that beautiful airplane instead of panicing. I am so very happy that it all turned out so well. I think that losing the throttle cable is one of my larger fears. -
Sponsored by the SBP 99s, Oceano [L52] will be buzzing with Girl Scouts on Saturday, April 16. More than fifty girls will be participating in an introduction to aviation where they can learn and earn most of the requirements for the Aviation badge. As the girls gather and check in they will have a chance to preflight and sit in a plane for a photo op. They will be divided into eight groups named for famous women in aviation and each group will be given a flight plan to guide them through seven learning stations. Each station will have 30 minutes of a learning activity. Topics will be aerodynamics, maintenance, air traffic control, history and physiology, paper airplanes, how to become a pilot, and reading aviation charts. The girls are bringing sack lunches, and during the lunch break, while they are eating, a panel of women will talk about their careers in aviation. Besides pilots, we will have a mechanic, air traffic controller, and airport administrator. JR Smith who flies the biplanes at Oceano will be sharing his flying experiences and airplanes. He will be teaching at the aerodynamics station in his hangar. At the close of the event, we will get a group photo around his biplane, and he has offered to take two lucky winners of a raffle for a flight! It is sure to be a memorable day for the Girl Scouts. We want to make it the best experience it can be. This is yet another activity supported by the Friends of Oceano Airport. The Mooney Ambassadors will be at AirVenture, and would be willing to help "man" a booth. It is very sad, but understandable. Trey's ankle and rib injuries are healing, but of course very painful.
