Here is the video from today's Girl Scouts with Wings Event: We had 85 degree weather with only light wind. WOW, is that perfect or what? Just under 40 girls participated. Why not have a fun event at your airport? It was so rewarding.

Just in case any California pilots need a $100 lunch... We have Girl Scouts with Wings going on today at L52 Oceano Airport. I am parked to a Mooney that has teeth. Seriously maybe a Bravo or Ovation with the Jaws teeth. Anyway, I digress... SkyDive Pismo Beach is launching divers. JR Smith is flying rides in the Super Stearman. And I am a volunteer doing a pre-flight and photo op with the 50 girls. They will be learning about aerodynamics, careers in aviation, mechanics and how to become a pilot [that is me again.] Should be a ton of fun. Sponsored by the SBP 99s with support from the Friends of Oceano Airport. Fun, free, a couple Mooneys on the ramp, one with teeth....need I say more?

Hey Kelly, The scouts are just great. I know they did a big event at Santa Monica. These are the types of events we need to keep doing to get kids interested in aviation, and grown up interested in protecting airports! New motorcycle: You will have to ask Mitch! I still don't fly the Ovation often! HA

Instructive experience of the week
mooneygirl replied to BorealOne's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
You did a wonderful job, and flew that beautiful airplane instead of panicing. I am so very happy that it all turned out so well. I think that losing the throttle cable is one of my larger fears. -
Sponsored by the SBP 99s, Oceano [L52] will be buzzing with Girl Scouts on Saturday, April 16. More than fifty girls will be participating in an introduction to aviation where they can learn and earn most of the requirements for the Aviation badge. As the girls gather and check in they will have a chance to preflight and sit in a plane for a photo op. They will be divided into eight groups named for famous women in aviation and each group will be given a flight plan to guide them through seven learning stations. Each station will have 30 minutes of a learning activity. Topics will be aerodynamics, maintenance, air traffic control, history and physiology, paper airplanes, how to become a pilot, and reading aviation charts. The girls are bringing sack lunches, and during the lunch break, while they are eating, a panel of women will talk about their careers in aviation. Besides pilots, we will have a mechanic, air traffic controller, and airport administrator. JR Smith who flies the biplanes at Oceano will be sharing his flying experiences and airplanes. He will be teaching at the aerodynamics station in his hangar. At the close of the event, we will get a group photo around his biplane, and he has offered to take two lucky winners of a raffle for a flight! It is sure to be a memorable day for the Girl Scouts. We want to make it the best experience it can be. This is yet another activity supported by the Friends of Oceano Airport. The Mooney Ambassadors will be at AirVenture, and would be willing to help "man" a booth. It is very sad, but understandable. Trey's ankle and rib injuries are healing, but of course very painful.

I received a nice comment today about what we are doing for General Aviation with the Ambassador events. I thought I would share this trailer for PGA Squared which is our new multi-media presentation. How many Mooneys can you count in a minute and fifteen seconds? I like to watch in 720HD and let it buffer in. Have fun, keep talking to your friends and neighbors about General Aviation and Mooney Airplane Company! -

Pilot Safely Belly Lands at Lakeland Linder After Landing Gear Malfunctions THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:10 a.m. Last Modified: Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:10 a.m. LAKELAND | A small plane crash landed safely Saturday at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport after its landing gear failed to go down, according to a Lakeland Police Department release. The pilot, John M. Corneal, 61, of St. Petersburg, set his 2005 single-engine Mooney down on its belly about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the release. No one was injured. After it stopped on the runway, the plane was lifted with cable straps and the landing gear lowered, the release said, and there appeared to be moderate damage to the bottom of the airplane and to the prop. The investigation has been turned over to Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.

I got my first taste of spacial disorientation yesterday while under the hood on a beautiful day. [Not that I could see it]. I was trying to do a timed turn, and somehow got my left wing into a steep turn and the altitude started to unwind. I think I lost about 500 feet. It was very interesting and I was very happy to have my instructor right there, and my husband in the back seat. What was facinating was that I caught the trend in my scan. But then my brain just froze for about ten seconds. This is not like me. I was thinking "fix this! fix this!" and I just wasn't doing it. Then the sensations from the decent made me feel nauseous for a few seconds. When I admitted what was going on, my instructor took over for about five seconds, and then I got my act together and kept flying the airplane. It was very alarming, though we werent in real danger. Previously we had flown the "A" and "B" patterns and I was feeling rather like a rockstar. Altitude and heading were well within testing limits. Then we started listening to ATC and I think perhaps that extra noise [which will certainly be with us when we fly IFR] just got my brain on overload. I just thought I would write my experiences. I recovered and flew back to Oceano under the hood. I love taking off the hood and BOOM the airport is right where it should be. Learning learning learning. I will be scheduling the written in April. And no I don't think I will only miss one question like someone I know!

We had four Mites display with the Ambassadors at Porterville, CA. Here is the link to the video. They are so cool. As well, there was one with a saddle on it [for the CFI for BFRs] when we displayed at Reid Hillview Airport near San Jose. Porterville Ambassador Event And as Jim mentioned, the Mite site is fun. As a matter of fact, I have a Mite in the Mooney Ambassador trailer. Ed Mandibles from Lompoc
