  1. Who said Mooneys are tight? Look at the headroom we got in this Ovation!
  2. As you can see from all the comments above there are many ways to land a Mooney. If you read them carefully you will find two common threads among all of them....... 1. Speed 2. Control Get these two things correct and you will be happy with most of your landings.
  3. As a buyer you should want to know everything you can find out about the airplane. It is not hard to find stories about multi-thousand dollars annuals for a new plane owner the first time he takes it to maintenance. Call it a PPI or an annual or anything else you want. It is always better to have someone very familiar and knowledgeable look for the problems. Don't be surprised, If the owner is balking there is something he doesn't want you to see.
  4. Not available on the PFD Pilot or VFR PFD
  5. The PFD display options for ESV are: Full Screen, Split Screen with the standard Nav Display, or Split Screen with the Nav Display overlaying the Topographical Map When a PFD or EBD or MFD has the Synthetic Vision (ESV) option enabled it is required that a Sonalert be connected to the PFD unless TAWS is installed
  6. you need one double shielded single conductor from pin 75 of the GLD 88 to pin 8 of the PFD. The shield should be ground at the PFD only.
  7. Appendix M of the install manual contains info on the Third Party ADSB Installation Information L-3 NGT-2500 L-3 NGT-9000/9000+/9000D Garmin GDL 88 and GTX 345 I believe the unlock is for these units. Per Aspen, you can connect up to three units to the single output ADSB source. (wired connections) requires software 2.8.3 or later
  8. Talk to Brian http://www.mooneysupport.net/index.html
  9. While the principles apply and it is possible to eliminate waste and inefficiencies almost anywhere, if you are only building a dozen units a year it gets really, really hard to have a major impact.
  10. We have been offering Junior Pilot Camp week long programs for the last three years here at Erie Ottawa International Airport (KPCW) Just finished one last week and we will start another one on the 17th. It is a great way to get youngsters hooked on aviation. https://www.facebook.com/events/970842596380692/
  11. Robert there is a lot of info on doing the GAMI test, both at SL and at altitude. I would check everything for leaks (air and fuel) before anything else. 1.0 spread is too much for the IO550...... it has tuned induction and is balanced from the factory. You should be getting much better, <.5 gph spread is acceptable.
  12. I see you stopped in KTOL. On the way back stop at KPCW and I will buy lunch at the diner.
  13. The Wright Bros. proved this way back in 1901/2 with their home built wind tunnel. They tested hundreds of airfoil shapes for their ability to lift. The airfoil will enhance lift, some more than others but it is not the source of lift.
  14. If Bernoulli is responsible for lift then explain how I can get back down to the ground after I take off........
  15. Garmin Install manual Table 6-38 Squat Switch Configuration. Default selection is Squat Switch = NO This sets the GTX to use automated airborne determination from other sources. Avidyne says you need it, Garmin says you don't (squat switch) Only your avionics technician knows for sure.
  16. Avidyne Installation Manual - Section 6.12 Table 73 ADS-B Output (page 85) For ADS-B out compliance, a squat switch is required for automatically selecting the transponder air or ground mode of operation. For aircraft without a squat switch, connect the squat switch input of the transponder to P1001 pin 8 of one of the IFD5XX/4XX. Set the transponder to accept an active low when performing that squat switch setup.
  17. Please look at SB M20-275 there are fuses in line with the surge diodes to prevent discharging if the diode shorts. It appears from your picture that the fuse is one used for this purpose. IF they were blown, check the diodes. sbm20-275 Charging system.pdf
  18. Despite the best efforts of engineers and designer, sometimes things don't work out the way they were planned. In aviation, manufacturers has a system in place to correct and/or improve the product when the conditions call for change. Maybe not a huge problem or a major issue but things that definitely need attention. This is called Service Bulletins. Case in point. Mooney SB M20-286. Models affected are late numbered Js, Ks, Ms, early Rs and most Ss. See the SB for specific serial numbers. Since the panel was out and we had easy access, I decided to have this service bulletin completed as it was not noted in the aircraft logs. It is not a difficult fix or requires costly parts. It is just hard to get at the parts that need modifications (unless you have the entire panel out) This is what we found. It is incredible that these did not cause a much more serious problem! I was shocked when I saw them. My moral to the story is that the manufacturer probably knows what they are talking about. Follow their advice. Anyone with a 28V Mooney that hasn't done this SB yet should think seriously about fixing it. sbm20-286 Landing_taxi light .pdf
  19. Sale pending on HSI.
  20. I put in the True Blue TA102 USB charger a couple of years ago when I added the second iPad to the cockpit. It is the panel mount unit for a mere $377 from Aircraft Spruce. It will not charge the iPad 2 or the iPad mini. It will keep them from discharging but it does not increase the battery level, only maintains it. I called the customer service to express my concern because their description says "Each USB port is designed to supply the electric current needed to charge any standard or high-power device with a USB interface." They basically blew me off. First, there is a service bulletin for a mod change. I was told it didn't effect me because my unit had the mod. Well, it turns out that my unit did not have the mod. They would not update it. Second, they acknowledged that their charger will not keep up on "high power" devices even after I pointed out the statement above. I would not recommend one of True Blues devices based on my experience. Just because it is "certified" (TSO'd) for aviation doesn't mean it works better.......
  21. just a little tidying up to do...... https://mooneyspace.com/topic/22444-marauders-avionics-emporium/?do=findComment&comment=352012
  22. S-tec literature says the ST-180 is a 14-28V compatible but they show a panel in the base of the Gyro to switch the jumper for voltage change. This unit does not have the access panel. Perhaps it is accessed from inside? I don't know. The unit is marked 28 VDC Perhaps a knowledgeable avionics guy would know for certain?
  23. United Instruments Model 7000 w/bezel lighting Excellent condition $200
  24. Airspeed gauge is Mooney 820308-531 Range 40 -210 kts Type II Sigma Tek, Inc. Model EA-5175 Part No. EA-5175-8PTL-MON
