  1. I’m quite certain it’s not a repair. The overlay/doubler is extremely thick, like 1/8” and has rounded edges as can be seen in the photo. And there’s a noticeable bulge or protrusion on the underside, like it needed the extra space to fit a forward looking antenna. I should have gotten a picture of it.
  2. It’s a plane I’m looking at. I can’t see any mention of weather radar in the logs. I attached a better picture above.
  3. Here’s a better picture. Is this from Weather Scout? It’s quite large.
  4. Here’s a very poor photo of the inboard edge of the doubled section. (On the very left edge of the photo) The thickness is what’s so intriguing.
  5. Interesting. In front of that there’s also a very large doubled up section over the wing skin, both top and bottom, that looks to be almost 1/8” thick and about 18” along the LE and probably 14-16 inches front to back. There’s a noticeable bulge on the underside and I was told that was the radar altimeter antenna. I guess I need to do some more googling for that one. Too bad I didn’t get a picture.
  6. What is this. Is it a fossil?
  7. I hadn’t thought about the IMC impact (no pun intended) on paint. I recently looked at a ‘90 wearing factory paint with a good bit of leading edge erosion on all 5. I guess it had spent a good amount of time crashing into rain drops. R2
  8. Just stumbled onto this video. G5 vs GI-275
  9. Is it indicative of an addressable problem, or just the nature of the beast?
  10. The curved tapes aren’t as intuitive as the straight tapes for sure. It looks like the G5 does have a bit more display area than the 275. However, with the higher resolution of the 275, you can get more info per sq in, but that can also lead to lots of small fonts if taken too far.
  11. I’d be interested in a comparison.
  12. Sounds like it’s not a cut and dry decision. Thanks. R2
  13. Now that you can feed the GFC-500 with a GI-275, are the 275’s that much better than the G5’s to warrant a swap if you’re already doing panel work? R2
  14. Just this morning I began playing with the different options on the METARs tab and find it very easy and helpful. However, it would be nice to be able to get the shortcut link to every airport, not just the ones with AWOS.
  15. Does anyone do anything to prevent moisture intrusion through open intake and or exhaust valves? Exhaust purge seems like it would be a lot easier than an intake purge. R2
  16. I’m guessing user error, so I’ll give it another shot. R2
  17. First thought was Ouch!!!
  18. I think you nailed it! R2
  19. I’m just starting to use FltPlan Go and one thing has me stumped. I’ve downloaded everything in my general are and I noticed gray circles, or dots, on top of the airports. Tapping on any one of these dots brings up a shortcut to that airport. However, not all airports show the dot and don’t allow getting to the information via the shortcut link. I’ve included two screenshots showing the issue. Can anyone explain why some have it and others don’t? R2
  20. That’s what I thought but when I did, the GPS icon turned green but the Connecting icon remained orange. I’ll try it again and give it more time next time. R2
  21. This morning I tried connecting FltPlan Go to a GTX 45. It appeared to attempt, but was never successful. Can you connect direct to the GTX 345, or is FlightStream necessary? R2
  22. Yeah, I wish it was that easy.
  23. And as an aside, at what point in a paint job’s lifespan does the paint begin to pop off of the rivet heads? Are rivet heads the canary in the coal mine for aircraft paint? R2
  24. Yeah, that happens to all of us. It’s a pendulum swing situation. Enjoy the ride.
