  1. You will be fine as long as you don’t get fuel in enclosed areas. If you do don’t fuel that tank.
  2. I have overhauled a few lycomings myself since I have an A&P. If you are leaking at the case, you probably have fretting between the case halves. That will cause the cylinder nuts to lose torque. Not good. I tried and like nickel cylinders as they break in less than 45 minutes and will never pit. I have not tried the DLC plated lifters but sounds interesting. I would not waste the money on the rocker shafts as I have always just have aircraft specialties regrind them and had no problems. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend but some of what you have talked about seems like overkill. Better to use the money for gas. I think the most important thing that I have found is to : 1 Overhaul or replace all accessories. 2. Do a proper engine break in. 3. Use an engine dryer to prevent moisture on the camshaft as even in warm climates, the engine produces one gallon of water for every five gallons of gas burned. You want to keep that off of the steel parts. That will even kill an Arizona camshaft. I also use a Twin Hornet to keep the upper end warm to prevent condensation. 4. Fly often for at least a half hour to keep everything dry and lubed. 5. Keep your overhaul simple. Folks will sell you all kind of stuff to make money but remember you got well over 2000 hours on a standard engine. Just my thoughts on it.
  3. Meant to say Laser.
  4. Lamar has headrests. They run $508 each. Might be good to check salvage yards for them too.
  5. I had the same problem. Sprayed tracks with silicon spray and problem went away.
  6. I would open up the top fuel tank panels. Drain the fuel and flush with clean fuel. Flush the entire system. It could have been water, poorly applied slosh coat, or the tanks were not thoroughly cleaned and flushed after reseal. Also could have water as stated in other posts. Could be more than one thing. Those tanks need to be surgically clean to be safe. Also check the drains when opened.
  7. Check with Mooney salvage yards for the vent piece. I would just paint the knob with blue paint.
  8. When I overhauled my IO360A1A, DIco had welded that area and tapped the hole. It was a straight thread and the fitting was a pipe thread. I bought a straight thread fitting ewwith an O-Ring seal and it worked great. The previous overhaul had installed the pipe thread fitting with sealant. Not good. May be why it was cracked. This could be the source of your leak. Remove the fitting and check the threads on the case and the fitting to see if they match.
  9. I would need to see another picture. This one shows nothing.
  10. On the dem 900 for sale what options do you have on it?  Such as OAT?

They will not take it back so I am going to have to build up my own harnesses and make do with what I have.

  11. I just bought a used gear set in excellent condition for $140.00. It is the 20:1. My M20F has 5000 hours and the gear is still in great shape, so with the spare I think it will last longer than me. The key is to lube them with the proper grease frequently.
  12. Pass on it. I bought an estate sale Mooney and wound up spending over 60K on it. I have an IA so the labor was free. It’s the small stuff that will nickel and dime you to end up eventually amounting to big bucks. The cheapest aircraft is one that is currently flying and well maintained.
  13. I removed the galley from my Mooney so no smell!
  14. Same stuff as the airlines use.
  15. I would go with an overhaul. Use the money saved for avgas.
  16. I installed coin mat in my M20F. I like it much better than carpet.
  17. Thanks. Stuff works great.
  18. Sorry about the misspell in earlier reply. It is DiOxit not Dioxin.
  19. I spray Dioxin into mine. Frees up the switch.
  20. You can get the records on it from the FAA. That will have any 337 forms ever submitted for it. Sitting so long the engine and prop probably need an overhaul or at least a tear down and IRAN with new seals. You can inspect and document AD compliance. Check the weight and balance against the equipment installed. Probably all engine and brake hoses need replaced. Probably all seals in the brake system need replaced. Nothing like a brake reservoir on the inside firewall leaking all over your carpet. In short I would buy it as a project and plane on a year or three before flying it.
  21. I had that issue on my M20F three months ago. Found that the 70 amp circuit breaker broken off where the wire connects to it.
  22. Could be your engine driven fuel pump.
  23. I had the Aircraft Hose Store make mine up. They were a good price.
