  1. I have had one on backorder since March. Last I heard was maybe this coming April. Not what you want to hear, but so you know.
  2. Damn new math. Never want to exaggerate. I meant .81.
  3. 1000 fpm clean puts me at Mach .82
  4. Yes, you clearly fell for my dastardly plan of asking you legitimate questions. And yes, I do get how you do it. While I also prefer a 500 fpm descent with little to no power reduction, that was not possible under the circumstances I described. It is clearly inefficient to fly fast only to throw out drag devices in a slam dunk descent in the end. But you stated that using the prop as a drag device is preferable to speed brakes, which also was not practical in the scenario I described. I told you we disagreed. Your response was smug. But hey, I’ve been wrong before. I’m not only willing to factually defend my views but I’m also willing to admit when I am wrong if presented with relevant facts. So I posed some questions. It wasn’t an evil plan, it was an attempt at dialogue, even if spirited. I am not angry, just disappointed that you ignored most of them.
  5. I agree with everything you posted. In this case it a combo of the handover from Washington Center, IAD traffic and the mountains. I just find the idea that preferring using the prop or gear as a drag device over speed brakes when needed is without merit.
  6. 1. RE inefficiency. So when do you believe speed brakes are necessary? 2. If you can pull back the throttle to 20” and descend at 1100 fpm from 17,000 to 1,500 without decreasing cylinder temp below the green then you are a wizard. 3. Putting the gear down before it’s necessary is inefficient and no different than speed brakes. 4. Using the least amount of fuel is far less important to me than engine and prop governor stress, so I guess it depends on what you consider important.
  7. OK I’ll play. Why in the world would I want to add any stress to my prop governor or engine to serve as a brake when I have a purpose built device that adds to drag and allows me to keep my cht’s up in a 1000 fpm descent? And how is a prop a “more efficient” source of drag?
  8. On this we disagree.
  9. Yup. Did it today. Washington Center dumped me from 17,000 about 50 miles from KGAI. Speed at the yellow line headed down at 1100 fpm and 25 inches. Speed brakes through touchdown.
  10. RE Cirrus. True, but be careful. Don’t want them to prematurely pop their chute….
  11. I do so occasionally. Especially when landing at a larger airport in which I’ve had to keep my speed up on final. Doing, so was one of the first things I was taught during my transition training. No change in handling, no change in stall speed, obviously less effectiveness as the airplane slows down. But sometimes useful and perfectly acceptable technique.
  12. Not mine. All DB info in top card of the MFD. Nothing in PFD. FS510 in bottom MFD. I’ve stopped using it. Stupid slow.
  13. Purdue.
  14. My friend who was an AA pilot had his pocket knife confiscated on his way to captain a flight. He told TSA they could have it, but needed to know if they also wanted him to go get the fire axe from the cockpit?
  15. I like the Precise Flight cannulas with the x3 conservers. You need one for each user. Conservers lower O2 costs and are easier on your nose than constant flow. No need for a full face mask below FL180.
  16. And it’s a government website, so it probably cost twice as much to build and three times as long to complete as a private sector offering….
  17. Lots of changes. I found this YouTube video helpful.
  18. I used industrial strength velcro. All good so far.
  19. I’d just make sure I preheated the engine.
  20. Just a quick thumbs up for the service I received from @jetdriven at flyrpm.com this week. A simple oil change, but the friendly service and attention to detail can’t be beat. I will be back, although location wise the pattern was about as full as the D-Day invasion fleet when I flew in…

  22. https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/ad-mandates-garmin-autopilot-software-fix/?MailingID=1527 From Avweb: On Oct. 6, the FAA proposed a new airworthiness directive requiring operators of thousands of aircraft to update Garmin autopilot software to address a flaw causing the autopilot to make unintended flight-control inputs. According to the agency, the AD was issued in response to an incident involving an F33A Bonanza experiencing “an un-commanded automatic pitch trim runaway when the autopilot was first engaged.” The proposed rule states: “The affected autopilot system software does not properly handle certain hardware failures of the pitch trim servo. This could result in an automatic uncommanded pitch trim runaway and loss of control of the airplane.” The FAA estimates the AD would affect 5,900 aircraft equipped with the autopilot system— including Beechcraft Bonanzas, Commander Aircraft 112s and 114s, Cessna 172s, 182s, 206 and 210s, along with Daher TB20s and TB21s, Mooney’s M20 series and Piper Cherokees. However, the FAA estimates a fix will be relatively cheap for operators at around $85. The agency is proposing operators complete the installation of the updated Garmin autopilot software within a one-year time frame. The proposed rule will be published on Oct. 10, and the FAA will accept public comment until Nov. 24.
  23. I agree based upon your experience. Last two times I was there plane had not been fueled when i arrived. Have never been met with a golf cart or offered any help. Polite enough, but have never made any special effort. Most interesting part was seeing Kid Rock’s jet parked on the tarmac. Unusual to say the least.
  24. Contour is the only option. BCG is kinder than I am. From my view, the fuel is more than a little expensive, I’ve never been able to get a hangar and the service has been adequate, but I wouldn’t go so far as good.
  25. Not an accident, but wow. Start at the 6 minute mark. It’s a Mooney. https://archive.liveatc.net/kiad/KIAD-App-North-Arr-MULRR-Sep-29-2023-1630Z.mp3?fbclid=IwAR3_ytGiBhBKw5QoFaohahuXnkm51JyslSNnYc8983TwHNmeTSbtQBF-9gQ_aem_AdUKwgsmWA7lo_XUfNIkg1pvE6u6EBGqpUWhUKl-szkOiepeEFH1rb5HxoNiGD14ckc Flight Track. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N7183V/history/20230929/1230Z/KXNX/KMRB
