Proposed Modification to RSW Airspace
Scott Ashton replied to Paul Thomas's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
Boy a vfr corridor across the midfield of 6-24 would be great…. -
Patrick, just a crazy idea, but swap the oft and right probes, wires, everything on one probe on the left and one on the right and see if the temps are reading accurately. If you move your #5 probe/wiring over to #6 and vice versa. If #5 (which is now in the #6 cylinder ) stays hot, then you have a measuring issue. did you verify you have the right injectors installed on that side? Maybe something got missed there and they aren’t flying right. you checked the induction system already for leaks, if I recall, right? At low power cruise, full rich, are the temps more even? If so that probable eliminates a probe offset/bias issue….does the spread increase only as you start to lean? what happens when you lean at say, 55% power, are you getting the same high temps in the CHT? i hope you figure out out and it’s something simple… don’t get discouraged. No matter how good the airplane, your first two years is full of surprises. By the time you get it perfectly right exactly how you want it, you’ll be itching for an Acclaim.

I ended up replacing the cap and harness too so I basically had a new ignition system, including an exchange mag, condensers, etc. Never figured out the issue unfortunately.

I just reserved N10XY for mine.... New paint and new number next year...

Give me a call anytime. We just got them in stock….you probably will want the regulator to get at least a functional check. Yes, the Kevlar cylinders have a 15 year life…. also get on the Dave and Ruth’s email list for the monthly fly outs for lunch, and the PPP is at LAL in January…..hope to see you at one of these.

New GI275 install; problem with KAP150 integration
Scott Ashton replied to Alangj's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I had a very similar issue when we first added an altitude preselect to my KAP150 installation. The AP was doing wild things and basically was unusable. Sarasota Avionics had to retune all of the internal digital trims apparently. Larry there did a great job and now the thing is rock solid. It may be that the KAP150 needs to be tuned somehow to work with the new avionics. I dont know the details, but there was nothing wrong with any of the components, they just needed to be set up again with the new config..... -

Oxygen Tank replacement troubles
Scott Ashton replied to khedrei's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
If you are in Long Beach just go right to CGS in SoCal, or you can send it to us and we can replace the cylinder. If you went to the other woman, she’s just a repair broker and will send it to them or us for the actual work anyway. Scott -

Here is part of the CFR reference for cylinders - https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-178/subpart-C#49:3.1.1.1.1.3.1.24 the PHMSA also regulates the manufacture of pressure vessels through a special permit process. You can search it here - https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/approvals-and-permits/hazmat/special-permits-search. The 15 year life on Kevlar wrapped cylinders for example, is a condition of the SP that is issued to the factory that manufactures the cylinders for us. if you have a Kevlar wrapped cylinder it must be taken out of service at 15 year for the DOM. That is a DOT/PHMSA reg and there is no leeway on it. The steel cylinders have different lives depending on the thickness. Regarding hydro, it’s correct that you can go beyond the hydro date if it’s filled already, but needs to be hydroed at the next fill. It’s not the absolute pressure that hurts a cylinder - it’s corrosion inside and the fill/empty cycles that do damage. Cylinders are roll-formed from a single piece of material so there are no welds to leak, and the hydro test is measuring the amount of expansion in the cylinder, not checking for leakage. we are an oxygen OEM, not a distributor so anyone can call us with any technical questions you have - and I will be at Mooney Summit in a few weeks too! You don't have GPSS. I have the 540 and KAP150 and I have to turn the OBS manually at each leg turn to get the AP to track. Otherwise it doesn’t have a starting heading to try to minimize the CDI error. I’ve been looking at ways to get GPSS, including the 275s and the Aspen, but I’m playing “Spin the OBS” for now…..

Oxygen Tank replacement troubles
Scott Ashton replied to khedrei's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Scott was purchased by Avox, now Safran. We bought Sky-Ox, and own the Sky-Ox STC for thier installed systems, which go back several decades. We are actually looking at those STC’s to see if there is a way to update them but it’s going to be a while to got through that process. Even supporting the old Skyox parts is next to impossible because of parts availability. Scott -

Here is the regulation on Steel Cylinders - § 173.302a Additional requirements for shipment of non-liquefied (permanent) compressed gases in specification cylinders. DOT 3HT cylinders. These cylinders are authorized for aircraft use only and only for nonflammable gases. They have a maximum service life of 24 years from the date of manufacture. The cylinders must be equipped with frangible disc type pressure relief devices that meet the requirements of § 173.301(f). Each frangible disc must have a rated bursting pressure not exceeding 90 percent of the minimum required test pressure of the cylinder. Discs with fusible metal backing are not permitted. Specification 3HT cylinders may be offered for transportation only when packaged in accordance with § 173.301(a)(9). Scott -
Sure! I remember! The EMT has a switchable regulator so you can turn it on and off. The PrO2's have an activation key that starts the flow and continues until empty in the event of a decompression event. The PrO2 also comes with more options on cylidner size and number of users.... Coming back to FL any time soon? Scott

If you are really concerned about an oxygen emergency, we have a one place emergency descent system that we produce for pressurized airplanes that gives between 20 and 40 minutes of oxygen in a reusable system. We sell it for pressurized aircraft mostly but it would fit right in the seat back and give you a good reliable backup. Most of the failures I have heard about have been due to the user pulling the tube off the Flowmeter accidentally. Search the ASRS reposts too. I only found one incident and this is what it was. PM me and I will sent you a link or good PrO2. scott

You also cannot force the government to enforce their own regulations, if they choose not to. We found this out in our litigation against the town of East Hampton. If the FAA chooses to not enforce Grant Assurances, citizens have no course of action to force them to do so. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
