  1. I noticed some time ago that when in cruise Myrtle requires just a tiny bit of right rudder to put the ball in the center and she picks up 1 to 2 knots of speed when the right rudder is added. It seems as if this is should be able to be addressed in the rigging. When on the ground and the nose wheel is centered, there is a little rudder deflection, which I believe is normal. Should I worry about changing the rigging to improve/correct this issue?
  2. Not flaming, but habits are not processes. Checklists should not be onerous. Ultimately, we all tend to use what works….until it doesn’t.
  3. ^^^^^THIS^^^^^ The tow bar is part of my pre-flight checklist which is why I do not worry about leaving it attached in the hangar.
  4. Just received my renewal and thanks to @Parker_Woodruff I was happy with the renewal. I did have a year over year price increase, but I did increase the hull value due to Myrtle's recent avionics upgrade. Personally, I have 800 hrs, Instrument rated and fly 100-150 hrs year. Comparatively speaking, I feel like plane insurance is a bargain compared to what I pay for my business insurance.
  5. I leave mine on in the hangar, but remove it as soon as I pull Myrtle out and it goes into the baggage compartment as soon as it’s removed.
  6. Is there an STC that will let you put an 8-ball on the throttle? That would be really cool. They did that on muscle cars in the 1970’s.
  7. I signed up for KOWB today. A buddy of mine who is a new Mooney owner is attending as well. Looking forward to it.
  8. Took my check ride for PPL in September of 1979 and I had 3 hours under the hood and 3 hours of night instruction before I took my check ride.
  9. Terry - are you planning on keeping MiraChek after your avionics upgrade? You can use the G3x for your checklist.
  10. My first plane was NA. Myrtle is turbocharged. I would not go back to NA. Looking down at bad weather is a good feeling. I believe @LANCECASPER was absolutely on point about the cost difference over the long haul being relatively insignificant. My experience tells me that if it does cost a little more, the benefits are worth it. However, I wouldn’t suggest anyone run out and buy a turbo without giving it an objective look, because they are not nice to your engine if improperly operated.
  11. The market value of your plane only matters when you get ready to sell. Since I plan to fly another 15 years, I won’t need to worry about the value of it for 14 years. As far as insurance goes, I will let you know. @Parker_Woodruff is working on my renewal at this time.
  12. I use the Garmin program for creating the checklist. I have mine uploaded into my G3x. The Garmin software is free.
  13. I purchased my M20K 231 in 2020 for $150k. Any reasonably priced plane with good avionics and a mid-time or lower engine seems to sell quickly. I believe your estimate for maintenance is on the high side for a well-maintained plane. All-in I spend about $25,000 per year for 150 hours of flying. That includes all my fixed and variable costs.....hangar, oil changes, annuals, etc
  14. Reading thru this thread again makes me so thankful for the shop that takes care of Myrtle. I couldn't be happier with the guys that keep her in great shape. The only bad experience I have had is with the shop that did my avionics upgrade...and it was a very painful experience indeed.
  15. Terry, I may see you in Kentucky, or we may be going to Texas. Haven't made a commitment yet. I actually like KOWB airport. Flew in there earlier this year.
  16. Please keep us informed on your progress as the project moves along!
  17. We checked the lifters during Myrtle’s last annual, at about 800hrs on the engine. We replaced one due to wear. The rest looked good.
  18. I am post-LASIK but I still need readers. When it’s sunny I wear MauiJim sunglasses with bifocals. If it’s not sunny I just wear drugstore readers.
  19. I believe that most of the functionality of the 750 is replaced by the G3x. The 650 has all of the nav capabilities of the 750, if I am not mistaken. I have the G3x with the 650 and I am very content.
  20. A friend with a turboprop has all Collins equipment. It broke and had to be replaced. I will take my chances with Garmin rather than hold my breath waiting for something else.
  21. Had a very positive experience with the folks at Harrison Aviation at Spinks. Thanks for the help guys! There was another Mooney on the ramp when we arrived - N56338 … don’t know if that belongs to anyone here. Looked like a nice J model.
  22. I thought drones were limited to 400’ AGL
  23. I certainly do not believe any manufacturer is 100%…stuff breaks, but Garmin made products are obviously thought by folks to be pretty good, the demand is high.
  24. Yes it is, but that runway is a bit short and I need a rental car, and I am going to the Stockyards for dinner, so we are going to try KFWS.
  25. ^^^^^^This^^^^^ I would also recommend a MAPA PPP training class for any Mooney owner looking for specific instruction.
