I ordered a CRT TV degaussing coil off eBay today hoping I can demag this thing.

Long story short...my whisky compass deviation was too high and the compensation wasn’t strong enough to correct it. Changed to a new vertical card compass with balance balls and it’s close, but still not legal in the NW quadrant. Yesterday I tried moving it to a different position with no luck. I really could use some help locating a growler or some advice on how to shield it from the center and top tubes. Has anyone had any luck with shielding? Side note : I’m aware of all the prior forum topics on this. What I need is some help addressing the issue. My A&P and avionics guys don’t seem interested in helping on this one since a compass isn’t really used anymore. But I have a check ride coming for my ppl. Can’t go without a working compass. I need the growler tool or someone raising their hand saying that wrapping a foil around the center tube worked or something.

FS: NEW WAT Parmetheus Pro LED Landing Lights
Nukemzzz replied to OSUAV8TER's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Interesting that in the hangar I can’t really tell the difference between the Incandescent and the LED other than the color temp. The center most point on the LED seems more intense. I believe this is where the action is at and I won’t really be able to tell a big difference until I’m on final. It’s good to see that there is some diffusion of the beam to help with taxi. It’s not a pencil thin beam alone. -
He's probably working on the patents and Amazon listings for his new product!

FS: NEW WAT Parmetheus Pro LED Landing Lights
Nukemzzz replied to OSUAV8TER's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
I ordered mine from you yesterday! I'm still working on my PPL in my 66E and my first night landings have felt like I was shining a pocket flashlight over the nose to try and see where I was going. We have come a long way since the OG PAR 46 lights. Hoping you can help me light up the whole airport on approach. lol -
It seems to be good for answering the question: "When might be a good time to fly?" I've also found it very helpful to understand what the weather is doing. Watching the wind patterns swirl and drift across the country helps explain how high and low pressure systems work and what they are doing.

Mooney down in Livermore
Nukemzzz replied to Captain Bash's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
If it makes you feel better... when I was about 7 years old sitting in the back of my dad's C175 (with my bother and two sisters by the way...it was different times). I remember he was in the pattern for an airport at Las Vegas when he discovered it was actually a prison and not the airport. lol -
This is a whole lot of valuable information, but hard for me to follow as someone that almost has only VFR PPL. I assume the GTN, with NAV built-in avoids this complexity? I do plan on keeping my KX-155 and KI-209 so it will retain ground based nav and I think ILS capability. Im really hoping my guys here will let me let me install with oversight. I redid the whole panel myself...with some help with understanding requirements and some harness work from them installing this would be pretty easy in comparison. Saves a lot of money as well... Thanks for your insight.

Maybe wear a disguise to see the AME?

To be clear, the only indication of trouble that I have is 350F is bigger than 300F and 50 is more of Fahrenheits than I can count on my hands. The engine runs strong and good. I'm mostly suspecting a that one probe needs to be reseated or something. I'll check back in when I sort out how to pull the data from the JPI.

Mooney down in Livermore

“Small plane misses runway”. I’m not sure that’s how I would have worded it. -
I’ll see if I can pull it. It will only have cyl, exh, temps and and fuel flow.
-
At a steady 24x2100 power setting I’m seeing: 345, 343, 327, 305 (I think cylinder 3 was the cold one). The cold cylinder also had the highest exhaust temp hinting that this cyl maybe has a higher flow injector. This was a training flight and so the lean procedure was the simple...lean till misfire and then turn in a few times Does this temp spread seem normal? Not sure if I should be concerned. Might be just variation in the thermocouple readings. Might be the cooling is better on 3.

I’m getting quotes on the same with G5’s now. I don’t see how the GTN 650 provides me with anything that I need over the 355. Have you flown it yet? How do you like it? Would you recommend it to a friend?
-
Do you also have a Cherokee 6? Sorry, pilot humor. My dad always calls his plane "the 6". lol

I think the reason the effective rate is so high is because it can kick our butt like this. I wonder... the people that are having the significant #2 vaccine reaction like this... are these the people that would have more likely died if they got the real thing? I've read that what's killing people is often the immune system over-reacting.

Because the community cares about each other? Because folks are interested in the experiences of others? It's only political if someone makes it political. 500k dead from it in the USA. You are lucky is what you are, so is everyone able to message on this board right now...some more than others. I've been basically hibernating since last March after visiting with my Mother in Florida for her final birthday (She died a month later, the same day I learned that the case on my IO-360 was cracked). She was alone because of the Hospital lockdown. I can't begin to express the sorrow of your mother dying alone during something like this. The greatest gift that you have to give to your mother after all that she did... taken away from you...can't even describe it. The surviving family struggled and opted to not get together (We live all over the world) for any service and risk sending my father with her. My work days are spent on Zoom meetings in my basement. I'm still employee and very lucky in that regard. My weekends are spent working on things like the plane and the house. There are a grand total of 5-7 people that I don't mask up around in my little orbit. I don't think we have gotten it, but I've had some crappy feeling days...today even... but maybe that's just how life is when you have basically a year long winter...hard to tell. We don't eat out, we don't go on trips, we are in an extended hibernation doing our part to not spread this thing because we are in a position that allows that by being able to work from home. I know some people that have gotten it with permanent side effects. I know some people that have died from it. I'm hoping that the vaccine rolls out fast and I'm disappointed in those that aren't going to take it and help us to build herd immunity. If we don't squash it with nearly universal vaccine acceptance it's going to keep mutating and become like the seasonal flu virus only way way more deadly and we will all be living with this at some level for the rest of our lives. That's my experience and take.

This reads like a normal week for me. I need to exercise more. lol

This caught my attention because I'm looking to add GPS to my M20E and the Brittain system almost works (Tracks but wonders back and forth quite a bit on VOR). You used the G5's to control altitude as well? This is what has me confused the most. My system has the hidden gyro near the firewall and not the TC. I have altitude and pitch hold. I'm not sure if they work. Pitch kinda worked, now it isn't... probably can be fixed. Altitude.. don't know yet. Long story. lol Planning to add 355 and G5's. I don't know how to get Brittain to follow the GPS. Assuming you found a legal certified path, how about if I take my plane to SC and you do what you did to yours to mine? lol Where I'm headed is below. This is what I'm sending out to get quotes with. I'd add the G5 AI like you for sure if it allows me to have GPSS and altitude control with the Brittain.

Update.... I'm leaning towards installing the GNX-355 with the flight stream card to connect to my ipad along with a G5 HSI for now and then later an AI. I don't really need the moving map/gps features of the G 275. Seems like overkill for me. Also, it won't fit in the lower center position in my panel because of the yoke mount. I really don't want to re-do my panel completely again. As far as I can tell... the only major thing I loose with the G5 is the ability to ditch ASI, VSI, ALT gages as the G5 isn't primary for these. I'll probably install the magnetometer for the HSI as it makes it so I no longer have to worry about the cabin magnetization issue that I've been fighting. One big question I have.... Can I have the GNX-355 output to both the KI-209 and G5 HSI at the same time? I think, but I'm not sure, that I need that 209 to output to my Brittain AP because I can't connect the 355 directly to it. Then I can have at switch to output the KX-155 to the 209 for VOR or ILS when not on GPS. However, I think if I connect both devices to the 209 then I need an external annunciator right? Is it not enough to have a label on the source selector switch? lol Alright... please shoot holes in my idea/plans. lol

Before-During-After Panel Upgrade Thread
Nukemzzz replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
What you guys have been upgrading "From" is what I upgraded "To"! I'm thankful that folks like you keep the "pretty damn good" used avionics market going. lol Now I'm hoping that you start flooding the market with cheap GTN650 or IFD440's. Note that I've left room for up to a 530W size.... Since my "New" pick I've installed a EI R1 tach and a Vertical Card Compass. Side note: This was all done by my hands, in my hanger, with a A&P/IA inspecting my work work at the end. Other side note: See that N number in the background? It's no longer flying...crashed on take-off in Florida not long after that picture. S -

Anyone have the weight and balance pages for a 66E?
Nukemzzz replied to flyingchump's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
What I have is about a 4 page document with original equipment, stations, and limits. I'd send you pics of mine by my IA has all my paperwork at the moment.
