  1. Geez, be carful, we may get one of those 'versions' from one of the 'members' on here who has an obsession with 'largely enhanced scantily clad' women ;o) -Don
  2. I was not able to pop any others but I'll try next time I'm out. I would prefer a solid universal rivet and figured during annual would be a good time. This plane has flown a lot of hours in IFR so I guess it's possible corrosion did it. I'll certainly treat the area to make sure after inspection/repair. -Don
  3. Manual says non-structural skins... don't see anything about specific rivets to use so a CheeryMax looks like a viable option. -Don
  4. Thanks! I cked the IPC and it looks like a rivet for the overhead air vents. Without taking the headliner out, I'm guessing it will be accessible during annual and, if bucking is required, should be doable. Appreciate the feedback! -Don
  5. Found something interesting yesterday. After flying (practicing landings) I did a post aircraft inspection and found one of the universal solid rivets popped a head on the top skin. Asked Dave about those and while I've done solid rivets/bucking, this one is best done by an AP. Annual is next month so I'll be asking the AP to do that while everything is out. Looks like the vent assembly will need to be dropped down to get access for bucking. I guess 7500+ hours on airframe means this can certainly happen... Just a weird location for one to pop off... -Don
  6. On tires, when I had the G5 done in August, the IA and I both thought my front was low. We cked it and it was spot on @ 30 psi. We upped it to 35 PSI as a margin and to ensure prop clearance. Since then, tire is wearing much better... -Don
  7. That is a very nice guide! -Don
  8. This is what I have (LHS) and is a very nice reminder about the gear - in the headsets. For me, if I can't slow her down when trying to land, I know the gear is up. I've tested that with my CFI and sure enough, she won't slow down well if the gear is up. I'm lucky, in a way, to know if the gear is down: 1) Johnson bar (on down wind) ck 2) Johnson bar (on base) ck and 3) yes Johnson bar (on final) ck. I then get the LHS warning on short final.... I do have the light (green is down, red is up) the gear horn, and the landing height system but, the Johnson bar is a pretty good validation for down or not (having new down/up blocks ;o) -Don
  9. I have an iPad pro (12.9) and iPad 5 mini. Pro I use for anything (all flight planning, reading etc.) both are WiFi only and max memory. The 5 mini is unlocked all the time and I use it for flight panning/weather also and cockpit use. With ForeFlight, I get what I plan on the pro sent to the 5 so no issues. I have WiFi hotspot on the phone so that takes care of that when I need it (like opening flight plan the switch back to stratux). Stratus for ADSB WiFi and I'm good to go. -Don
  10. New beacon is on and working great! LED is BRIGHT for sure. Test flew today and she's working great. Right now the only 'pressing' things are the annual and the wait for the TruTrak auto pilot. I need to do a VOR test (probably goto Meacham to do the VOT test). I'm in search for a local CFII (Near North Texas Regional) so I can get moving on the Instrument rating. May send out the Kx 155 for the LCD screen upgrade and all-around check out -- but only if the VOT test fails ;o) Other upgrades I may do are the nav lights (with strobes) and keep an eye on cylinders as she cranks out more flight hours... -Don
  11. Ordered a LED beacon to replace my Whelen. That goes in next week. OsuAviator got me the one I need. That should help the StormScope too... Pics after install is done.. I'm so ready for the TruTrak now ;o) - probably after the holidays (I'm assuming the STC won't be ready until then)... -Don
  12. Mine's up 25% liability only right now (due to the off airport landing in 20)... edit, this also included the MAPA exclusion of $250. Gotta wonder about taking the class each year if insurance doesn't see the benefit.. -Don
  13. G2 is installed and working great. Insight did a nice job for sure. The new screen is much brighter and sharper. Issue turned out to be a bad eeprom. BTW, my OAT sensor started showing correctly so the intermittent loss must have been the eeprom. Flew great after 3 week layoff... Nice to be flying again -- just in time for annual next month ;o) -Don
  14. The G2 is using those locations for CHT (bayonet) - not sure about dual - I got the 18mm ring version just for backup use with the Mitchell only... I'll look at what's available for Mitchell... Mitchell has 12, 14, and 18 MM so I'll need to see what size I can get... Thanks! -Don
  15. G2 is fixed! It was the EEPROM/Chip that went bad (same issue that was discussed in Piper Owners Group). I also had them upgrade the display since I didn't want to deal with that later (there is also an issue with the displays on the older systems). Its being recertified and will be sent out tomorrow... Should have it back in a couple of days and then I can go out and fly! I also have on order the spark-plug type probe for the Mitchell -- the wiring is all there from what I can see so I should be able to install it and hook it up (I read where these type probes can have a 50° swing - 25° lower to 25° higher than actual). With the G2 back in place, I can see what it reports and then set a placard accordingly. -Don
  16. M20Doc has a great point. I'd fill/sand and If I needed a patch, I'd use a 2 ply bid tape and stipple it in 'after' the fill sand has cured. Use peelply over the tape and primer/paint as necessary after the tape cures. Peelply keeps things nice and can prevent those 'needles' in cured bid layups. . -Don

  18. Talked to Jim @ Insight, good folks. I've sent the unit to them. We discussed what was going on, and updated the records (me as owner). Jim did say they recommend doing the new display upgrade as there are many improvements over the display I have (built in 2012). With mail/shipping I'm guessing 2 weeks before I get the G2 back. No cht means no flying - unless I add the other Mitchell probe back on .... -Don
  19. Understand, this is more of what I was referring to: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gardner-Bender-1-in-x-1-ft-General-Duty-Electrical-Tape/3385480?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-elc-_-google-_-electrical-_-LIA_ELC_106_Tools-Wire-Connectors-_-3385480-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&ds_a_cid=112741100&gclid=Cj0KCQjwv5uKBhD6ARIsAGv9a-yFtoUo4DE4m76t0v-zgls1PuS5AXnVROnloPYM-5CYmKdcONxGR80aAohlEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds basically liquid electrical tape... -Don
  20. Liquid tape maybe? I have one of those boots etc after my electric step... -Don
  21. Well, looks like my G2 insight has failed. I did the startup without the SD card and, with a new one. I'll need to contact Insight on Monday... I understand this is not uncommon for the early G2s as they had EEPROM issues holding the programming... -Don
  22. I've owned and flown both. If you fit in the warrior (mine was a '74), you'll fit in a vintage Mooney. I'm a 'wide body' and fit just fine in my Mooney (both the B and C, flew a F rental too). Wife and me are no problem. Same with my instructors... Love my Mooney. -Don
  23. Nice info on the blocks... https://www.knr-inc.com/shoptalk-articles/25-shoptalk/41-200305-manual-gear-mooneys -Don
  24. @Sabremech was instrumental in the manufacturing of those blocks. He may have some guidance if Lazar is out of stock. Also, make sure the Johnson Bar is straight - that can cause those blocks to wear out too... -Don
  25. That is why I did basic med this year. Did 2 years in a row for 3rd class - my cardiologist does my basic med now. I see him twice a year so he would know if the ticker is having problems. My 3rd class med tests all focused primarily on the heart - thus the decision to go basic med. Basic med was supposed to 'help' us - go figure... -Don
