  1. I joined as a new but not young pilot to learn more about the brand that captivated me as a young kid in the 80’s and early 90’s when my Dad would taxi his Cherokee on ramps away from our private grass strip. I loved these Mooneys then and am still entranced with them. This is a VERY civil forum (even with the recently unruly coin dealer) compared to the automotive forums I used to frequent as a car guy. The fact it is more of a niche forum helps that. I’ve aged enough now that I am more tempered in my responses that I don’t care if people see my real name. I am classified as a wannabe right now, and who knows, once I get into a Mooney, I may find it doesn’t fit my needs for flying my family, but I still love the brand, and appreciate this forum for its wealth of knowledge, inclusion, and brother/sisterhood that it brings. I’m thankful that if/when I ask newbie questions that there are good people here willing to answer them, including if they can let me look at their plane if local..... PS, I don’t know if John with a 252 based at KDPA is on here, but if you are, I had fun talking with you that last weekend of October in the hangar. Nice plane!
  2. So do you need an internal camera? I seem to remember seeing one that was set up for aerial surveying and had a (large) clear panel in the floor and was set up for some crazy camera. I seem to remember it was only a couple years old though and VERY pricey. I don’t know your budget but it was well north of a new 206 from Cessna.
  3. I have been looking at 206s as well, and Silver Hawk has a couple. https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/33133655/2008-cessna-206h-stationair
  4. Though if I had to pick jail, I’d pick Mooney jail.
  5. @mike_elliott Any update if you were able to make contact?
  6. A quote we see all too often when we read about these accidents...... Taken from the Herald Mail Media link above, “Powers was "an accomplished, extremely competent airline pilot, flight instructor and flight engineer," Nic Diehl, executive director of the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport Authority, wrote in a news release Friday.” Always be watching, please everyone. My wife’s father died in a stall spin trying to avoid power lines as a crop duster in a similar accident. Things you can’t even see will kill you, especially this close to the ground.
  7. Ugh, there are some high tension power lines right there in that block.
  8. Prayers for all involved. 2 dead in plane crash Taken from the article, “JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WDVM) — Update(9:10p.m.) The victims of the plane crash have been identified. West Virginia State Police say Randy Garcia, 67, from Inwood W.Va. and Clinton Powers, 70, from Inwood W.Va. were pronounced dead on the scene of the crash of the 1960 Mooney single-engine aircraft.”
  9. Mike and anyone else here that knew Mark, you have my sympathies. His family and friends have been in my prayers since reading of his accident here when I started lurking on this site. His accident proves that you can be well trained, prepared, and equipped but there is always a risk, in anything you do. It was tragic but I am glad he is no longer suffering in a hospital. That’s no comfort to anyone else around though. Strong tailwinds Mark.
  10. I have a flight planned for Saturday and could test with a Litespeed headset but I know it works with a toothbrush in my mouth, and with sunglasses, but I haven’t tested the combination together. I only seem to have trouble if my phone screen is in bright sunlight or my sunglasses are reflecting sunlight right at the forward facing camera. Of course my flight is in a Cessna so it doesn’t technically count if posting on this site, does it......
  11. Rick, I’d like to make KGKT one of our routine vacation destinations with a plane. I didn’t know you could get a lot to build there. That’s awesome! I want to hear some basic details about that too. I’d also like to hear thoughts on flying in and out of there. We are currently living 40 miles west of Chicago and we usually drive down there every summer. Flying with two kids would be a much better/shorter trip.
  12. Yep, operator error. Thanks!
  13. I just tried last night to link Mooney Summit to my Amazon account and could not find it. Is it still available or did I have an operator error malfunction here?
  14. The O2 comment was my maybe not so subtle reference to another new member here who felt supplemental O2 wasn’t necessary for himself.
  15. Congratulations! Quite an accomplishment. I’m new here but have been reading Mooneyspace long enough to put faces to the names. Bob has clearly put on O2 when he needs it to earn this accomplishment. I love the Wright beard as well!
  16. New here, been lurking for a long time and joined not long ago while in market for a long body and transition training to go with it. While I agree that having a CFI familiar with the type to work with for the transition, I am most concerned with the individuals involved right now. They have both been through a traumatic event and I can only assume they are either not active on this site or are keeping completely hush about it pending whatever litigation or subrogation is about to ensue in this ridiculous society we live in. I personally hope they are doing ok first and foremost, and are not struggling with blame at this point. I’ve been in a service industry (automotive) for most of my life and in the business this sucks to have happen (and it does). Bent sheet metal, however expensive is still WAY cheaper than loss of life and much easier to get over. My $.02 only.
