  1. Hi Alex,

thanks for your post on the GFC500 install, i was wondering if you would be willing to share the name of the shop doing the work. I hope to do similar in my C model once Garmin gets STC approval. thanks

      Hi Kurt,

Sorry for the delayed reply.  I am happy to do so.  Dean Aircraft Services in Meridian MS.  I dropped the plane off October 19th and they are on track to finish by November 11th.  On time, on budget, including a number of other smaller items (removal of old gear, fabrication of cover plates for old antennas etc.

So far, I am very pleased with their professionalism.  Please ask for Chris and tell him I recommended you.

      Alex

  2. I 2nd that! the IFD takes about 1 min or less to lay in a XC multi-waypoint plan with a SID, destination, approach, alternate airport and its approach. so easy on the IFD I have stop bothering to transfer over with foreflight prior to launch. However, I have used that feature a few times inflight with major reroutes, first sorted out new route on foreflight, once happy, upload to the IFD, activate.
  3. Hi TMO, Yes they (IDF 440/540) do have wifi. It can act as a primary wifi connection point for interfacing with an ipad running the IFD100 app or be connected to a secondary network, e.g. Startus 3 . Swapped my 430w for the ifd440 awhile back while 430w still had $ value and I have been very happy with the upgrade. Not had any issues with G5 interface. There are some emerging functional issues between the IFD units and the GFC 500 autopilot dealing with VNAV and ESP and discussions on other threads related to STC legalities between the pairing.
  4. I came across this recent thread on Pilots of America. Appears the frustration with TruTrak/Aerocruze100 wait not limited to Mooney owners, even some on the AML are experiencing problems with BendixKing supply chain and communications. I do not know how common these issues are for other Aerocruze purchasers but I found it interesting as our community continues to wait for news on this autopilot. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/problems-wit-aerocruze-100-install-lack-thereof.126381/
  5. thanks, that would be good news
  6. any insight on if they might roll the C approval in with the E?
  7. The G5 AI does not provide audio alerts, ony flahing yellow on the slected altitude at 1,000 and 200, don't know about the gfc 500.
  8. I have nearly the same config in my C (ifd440, 1G5 as an AI). during one of the recent Garmin webinars on the gfc 500, i mentioned my ifd440 and intent to use it as the nav source for the gfc500 and rep replied the stc would not allow that connection. however, later my Garmin instaler at a Mooney service center said it would not be a problem. So i suspect your comment about your plane not being their first choice might be correct. I don't have the G5HSI installed because i have a working Brittain AccuFlite which flies heading bug info from my vacuum DG and i hate to lose that functionality while waiting on the gfc500. My installer is not comfortable even passing heading bug info from a g5 setup as a DG to the Brittain.
  9. Hi HJ Mac, try this link from the Garmin gfc500 support page to enter the lottery, good luck. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/autopilotcertification/
  10. Thanks to all for helping clarifying for me the need for two g5s and coupled approaches. kurt
  11. Thanks Tom, yes i have 2 CDI with glide slopes, 1 connected to the IFD440 and the other to a kx155 radio. so sounds like i will not need the 2nd g5 as an hsi for coupled approach with the gfc500. i understand i will still need the gad 29b.
  12. Greetings All, My first post and I apologize if my question has already been answered on another forum or has an otherwise obvious answer. I have a C model and I’m patiently waiting for the GFC 500 AML-STC for installation. I already have 1 G5 AI installed and an IFD 440. From viewing some webinars (Gamin’s and Sporty’s), I got the impression only 1 G5 (AI) was required for the AP. However, on a Bonanza forum, I saw a posting saying “for coupled approaches and glide slope navigation you need the 2nd G5 as an HSI.” I was wondering if anyone can clarify if this is true? If this is true, I can install the 2nd G5 as an HIS when I do the GFC 500 but was hoping to spread out project costs. The revision redundancy provided by the 2nd G5 HSI would be nice. However, I’m reluctant to go ahead with the 2nd G5 HSI while waiting on the GFC 500 approval for the reason I have a working Brittain AP with heading bug track, nav track, altitude hold and as I understand the Brittain AP will not legally interface with the g5. Thank you for your collective wisdom.
