I installed a surefly system and it was simple installation and runs exactly as it should. It now has the stc for dual installation if the plane has 2 separate batteries. I originally looked at the electroair and decided against it as it was a very complicated system.

I'm so glad that you agree with me! There are so many stories about shops missing or intentionally missing things because they are supporting their client, the seller. When you get to know what kind of person the seller is, then you have a potentially good idea the shape of the plane.

Nose gear Shimmy on Taxi
Mufflerbearing replied to joepilotmooney's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Well, this is not exactly true. Not only was my collar installed upside down (prior to me purchasing the plane), but that collar broke which caused an immediate caster angle change to 1.75". Well over an inch past maximum allowed. -
In my experience, buying the buyer is more important than buying the plane. There are many stories here of buying just the plane and even doing what they thought was a thorough PPI only to have the plane down for years getting major things fixed that were either not disclosed or purposely overlooked so the pretty plane could be sold.
-
You buy the prior owner, not the plane. You can tell a lot about how the plane has been treated by understanding the owner. If the plane has been taken care of by open checkbook, that is much different than someone that always did the basic minimum on maintenance.

Nose gear Shimmy on Taxi
Mufflerbearing replied to joepilotmooney's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Be sure to check the castor. There is quite a bit on Mooneyspace that talks about the procedure with diagrams. It's really simple to check and helps to narrow down what is going on. There is a collar for the shock discs that has an offset hole drilled for the retaining bolt. Sometimes this collar is installed upside down with the shorter side installed toward the bottom. This changes the castor significantly enough that several planes have been wrecked because the mechanic changing the shock discs installed it upside down. This makes the plane feel squirrelly when taxiing or take off but especially so when landing. -
Have you verified your dipstick to actual oil in the engine? I just did and found that the dipstick reads one quart low from what I put in. So, reading 6 quarts is in reality 7. Just found it interesting.

Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?
Mufflerbearing replied to gabez's topic in General Mooney Talk
I don't know where you heard about that reputation and I certainly have not seen it other in isolated situations. It's these situations that need to stop the fighting and bickering. This is the single BEST place to talk Mooneys and it's important for all of us to make it a welcoming and productive place for Mooniacs to hang out and share experiences (good and bad) that others may glean valuable information. I'm sorry if someone made comments about your weight. That's not right in any fashion. Also, if you went back to all of my posts, you will see that I have not attacked or said negative things about anyone personally. Including you. We want everyone here, let's help this forum have a really good vibe. -
Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?
Mufflerbearing replied to gabez's topic in General Mooney Talk
@Aaviationist I don't have a dog in this fight at all, but I have seen too many good and productive participants on this forum leave because of personal attacks. Yes, tons of people have differing opinions and that can be healthy and hopefully sharing these differing opinions, we learn. Personal attacks are different that just having differing opinions and are not welcome here. Please change the tone before more people leave. -
Full fuel level in M20S Eagle
Mufflerbearing replied to mooneyflyer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Like @Niko182 said, it is the bottom of the filler neck. If you turn your plane into a screaming eagle, those filler necks can be removed or forgotten plus a higher UL and higher HP. -
Can you be more specific? Maybe a picture of what you are looking for?

Vernatherum stuck?

Your fuel injection system needs to be tuned badly by an A&P that knows how to do it or can reasonably follow the instructions to make it work. Once one part is tuned, it whacks another part so it is a constant back and forth until it's perfect. Mine will now idle correctly at 600 rpm.

I just installed a slightly used IO550N from the IO550G. The new engine had the skytrack lightweight starter which is new but with the advice from the crew here, I decided to keep my heavy energizer starter and when it finally fails one day, will rebuild it. I do have a slightly used lightweight starter I could sell....

Based on the G100UL fuel leak thread what's your position?

I for one would love to install water/methanol injection and run mogas. It would only be used for a sort time every trip on climb out. Now if there was an stc for that on our planes... -
Yes, the challenge has been sorted. The biggest and first thing I did was install fine wires top and bottom. 10/12 Champion spark plugs failed the ohm test. Then I did have the fuel pump replaced and then what I later learned the importance of having the mechanical fuel injection system tuned annually. With all of these things, the plane runs perfectly.

I run from KCOE to KSHN over the cascades regularly. I do have the screaming eagle with a glass panel an FIKI. My forever bird. FIKI was a must for my purchase and have had a very good dispatch rate. This includes flights to Provo Utah. I don't have any experience with the turbos of which I have heard that once I try one, I'll never go back to NA. It has an incredible UL so there really is nothing to not like. With all of what has been said, what is your budget? You know how much we love to spend other people's money!

I installed an LED on my plane and there is so much truth to this statement.

You will have to remove the kick panel and remove/replace from inside the airplane. It's a tight fit but if I can do it, anyone can do it.

I was just a tad late to the party. I contacted operation airdrop and was told to stand down for now. Certainly a missed opportunity. -
Unapproved radio calls poll, which are you?
Mufflerbearing replied to 201er's topic in General Mooney Talk
I'm late to the party, but my .02 is with pilots that simply announce whatever but never listen to the radio. I would rather hear some stuff that mildly bothers me than have a pilot do something stupid because he's not listening. About a month ago, coming into KCOE, my home drome, the seasonal tower was active. It was a super busy day and 10 miles out, I couldn't get a word in anywhere. My traffic screen was totally lit up and later learned we did 580 ops that day. Thinking it better not to go in closer than 5 miles out, I just circled over Lake Coeur 'd Alene. I finally had a break in the radio and they thought it ok for me to do a few more circuits which I was happy to do. Got the call directing me to a Right downwind RW24. I was then #2 behind a fire tanker jet. In between the jet and me, the tower had an amphib take of from RW 24 which was ok. Plenty of room. IF that pilot actually started to take off! Apparently that pilot was unaware of the busy nature of our airport that day and just sat on the RW numbers until I had no choice but to go around. The tower was a little excited about the situation and told him to move it and do an immediate right turn as soon as he lifted off. No harm, no foul, but darn it, listen and visualize where the planes are in the area! -
What's the best way to go about purchasing a Mooney?
Mufflerbearing replied to Rangoon's topic in General Mooney Talk
For me, the hunt was half the fun! There is so much incredible information found here on MS that after spending a ton of time here, I determined my mission and the plane that would fit that mission. I learned a ton about the particular model of my airplane which built confidence when looking for the right plane. This certainly takes time, but it is such a satisfying part of the journey. 1) Identify your mission 2) Identify the best model for your mission 3) Learn all you can about your model 4) Go hunt that mystical unicorn 5) Don't necessarily settle for the first one you look at 6) A good pre buy inspection is important 7) Buy the best one you can find for the funds you have available 8) Fly the heck out of it! -
My Son needs retract time — best plane?

Isn't the M in TBM Mooney? Why move away from the family? The Ovation is an amazing platform and I think the perfect step to the TBM. -
