  1. I am almost positive this scenario is what happened. He described the most plausible scenario 2 days after crash when he could read enough and did not say anything new. He could tell this to investigators at the scene and this would be in the news but looks like he just walked away just to post the comment 2 days later on the youtube? Just wanted to say that so far the only real evidence for us is the crappy video and chances of this comment on the youtube of being a red herring are very high. This is the beauty of the Internet: I can create a new account and comment that an airplane was flapping it’s wings and everyone will talk about this
  2. He heard the sound of a low flying airplane. Probably already as low as 1000-2000ft AGL. Based on speeds mentioned above he had 3-6 seconds to think: what’s this noise, then look up and (maybe he got lucky) to find and airplane in a relatively big sky (remember how hard it is to find traffic in the air when you scan for it?) and capture all the details about folding wings, abrupt controls, debris from the tail etc. Now add the speed of the sound into an account - an airplane was falling with 1/3 speed of the sound means 1/3 less time from the moment you hear it (2-4 seconds). My main point - we don’t have a reason to trust someone in the Internet. I am sure NTSB will speak with him and verify
  3. It was previously mentioned that an airplane lost 1000ft in 3 seconds, this is more like 1/3 of a speed of the sound. You hear airplanes flying far and not towards you normally but if you look at the videos of low passing airplanes in youtube you will see that you don’t hear the sound until it is too close
  4. Unless he decided to comment after he saw the video and not an eyewitness at all Disclaimer: my party says wings can’t fold between 2 frames
  5. I am a bit skeptical about eyewitness comment in youtube: most likely he could not hear the sound of an airplane until the last 1-2 seconds because the rate of the descent was so high. However looks like he saw it enough to describe a lot of details and according to his own words - the sound of an airplane is what made him to think, look up, find an airplane in a sky and capture so many details
  6. Just read this thread and didn’t found an answer to an original question: what is involved in installing a one piece windshield. Anyone?
  7. What you see as a double-tail artifact is a car parked behind (compare several frames). Wings painted white just blend into the color of the skies on a shitty video so looks like they were collapsed in all 3 frames
  8. Yeah it’s not chirp it’s a continuous sound only when gear is up. When I heard this for the first time - I extended gear and warning sound disappeared. Only happened twice in the last 2 years. Will look into a throttle switch. Any pictures where it is located?
  9. I think I never said that but I always appreciate your detailed answers @carusoam
  10. Very rare I get a gear warning sound when I retract gear after takeoff (electric, Dukes). Tower says all 3 wheels up and “unsafe” light is illuminated. Did anyone had a similar issue and is this a safety concern? Also jokes about Johnson bar are always welcome
  11. It’s brown and it is a sticky
  12. My fuel sender has some kind of sticky goo on it around bolts and sender flange. My guess it’t to prevent small leaks at bolts. Does anyone know what product it can be? I need a bit more of it
  13. Just got my set if visors from Don installed! Looks great, can’t be happier!
  14. Did anyone try ovation paint schemes on vintage mooneys? Or these look funny on shorter bodies with rectangle windows?
  15. While seating at the restaurant! Nice!
  16. Is there a software (paid or free) with airplane templates paint scheme designers use? I want to visualize some of my ideas
  17. Is that a revolution across various manufacturers with unified interface / protocol?
  18. Here is my flat panel where it is in front of the glareshield on a copilot side
  19. Where did you get a new glareshield (thanks, @carusoam)?
  20. I was in hope that I can just replace the top part of the dash, not sure what it’s called. The one between the windshield and the panel where you put your cheeseburgers on
  21. Yeah I think you get it right. Not sure it is a bend, more like a tilt
  22. My panel is actually flat but in the co-pilot area it’s a bit in the front of the upper dash because it’s bent and this drives me nuts because I can see all the avionics and wires inside the gap. I also wonder why Mooney decided to to this tilt?
  23. Who knows why our Mooneys have this weird “step” in the panel? Anyone has an experience making it flat? I guess the shape of the dash needs to be changed as well?
  24. Yep, this one, it’s no longer available
  25. Anyone has this publication? Link is 404 5 years later
