  1. I can't seem to keep my baggage area, hat rack, and back seat organized. Between my flight bag, headset bags, small tackle boxes with batteries, charging cables, portable urinals, puke bags, dramamine, tissues, extra seat cushions, O2/canulas, a blanket, tools, oil, funnel, gatts jar, dip stick, pitot cover, gust locks, tie downs, cleaning supplies, etc ... well, it gets a little cluttered. Show me pictures of how you keep your plane organized! :-) I feel like a hoarder sometimes.
  2. This is exactly the right answer. I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan. If I take off in the morning in my M20F, I am in Phoenix by sundown. I can be in Chicago in 90 minutes, on the ground at Midway. I can be in Cleveland in just over an hour (but who wants to go to Cleveland). Pittsburgh to pick up my step-daughter? 90 minutes enroute. Philadelphia? 3 hours. I flew from Jacksonville, Florida home three weeks ago in 6.5 hours enroute (one fuel and BBQ stop). I do this at < 10GPH lean of peak - and I'm getting GAMI's to go do <9 gph soon. A friend owns a Grumman. Loves it for the sliding roof, but I took him to Nashville in my Mooney last weekend for a Pilots and Paws trip, and we were there in 2.75 hours. 140 ktas at 10,000' @ 9.7gph. He saw the light. The Grumman is going to be sold soon.
  3. You can get nice results with bike tape, too, fwiw. You can sort of see mine here. That's about a year old. And yes, I'm an avid cyclist, so I've got technique. Just don't buy the crappy cheap stuff. This is about $20/roll, does both yokes.
  4. Well, fwiw, *I* own Mooney N3555N now, and after fixing a bunch of squawks, and a very thorough annual, she's a great plane. @BobW if your dad is still around, please let him know his bird is getting the love an attention she deserves after a few years of neglect. The attached photo is from last night, I parked at KFTT (Fulton, MO) over night, and spotted a '67 M20F on the ramp. I live in Michigan, and she's hangared at KARB (Ann Arbor). I'm flying her about 350 hours a year.
  5. Same. I sent in my original cables for my '68 F and they sent me exact replacements in about 2 weeks. About $750 for the bunch.
  6. That's a pretty bird. I did the one-piece windows to my '68 in July, no regerts. I'm planning the cowling mod as well. I covet your wingtips, but it looks like they aren't available anymore :-( If I hit the lotto, I'll by a TBM - and I'll have my Mooney refurbished so it looks like it came out of the factory yesterday.
  7. Be careful not to become complacent and accidentally have hot mags. My check is that if I don't see the keys on the glareshield or in my hand, I don't touch the prop or go near the engine at all.
  8. The spot above my audio panel is a cutout specifically for the GFC-500.
  9. You can put your weeeeeed in it.
  10. N3555N sn: 680095 2 G5’s Ready to install.
  11. Garmin keeps bumping the F from the STC list for the GFC-500. If we all reach out to Garmin, can we get their attention? Even if you’re driving an F and are holding out for the GFC-500, your voice should be heard. Reply here if you’re one of us!
  12. Aluminum Falcom She may not look like much on the outside, but she's got it were it counts. I've also got the Han Solo "fuzzy" dice hanging in the cockpit.
  13. Love those, and the price is good. May I ask how much installation was in time/cost? I have a '68 F that looks pretty much identical inside except for the manual gear.
  14. Yes, full tear down and inspection of the crank.
  15. Yes, that's part of the AD, and replaced the bolt.
  16. Yes, engine was completely off and broken down, and I had every part possible inspected. I've been very hands-on with this annual so I can understand my bird better. I'm also doing any work I can legally (and when I have evenings/weekends/lunches to do it). Even had the engine mount stripped and repainted. And since I was down for so long, I modded the side windows to a single pane, and gave been redoing the interior as well. and switched to LED's all around...
  17. As stated, that's the not the prop governor hose, but it's also not rated for the fuel pressures in the IO-360, and not for aero use.
  18. Yes, fuel line. It's the only photo I have. My IA informed me that the flex line on the prop governor was also not rated for the application, and was not aviation rated either (I believe). I don't have a picture of that hose.
  19. Yes, that's me, and I combined the tear-down with an annual, and that's why we're finding these things. We're going over everything with a fine-toothed comb, and fixing the stuff that isn't right.
  20. Yes, to be pedantic, you are correct. 220 SMOH. Not since new.
  21. The pre-buy was remote (the aircraft was in Florida, I am in Michigan). I will be having a frank conversation with him as well. We will see how the engine looks after we make it legal. Compressions were all 79 at the start of annual a couple weeks ago, and I just did an accessory housing teardown and inspection, as well as a borescope. So I am optimistic that the engine will give me lots of time, it's the stuff on the engine that has been hacked to fail.
  22. The only log entry is that the engine was overhauled by the mechanic and zero-timed when it was moved over from another Mooney. The prior owner advertised it as a 220 hour SMOH engine. The owner and mechanic are friends.
  23. This is the only photo I have on my phone, but this is not an aeronautical rated hose. It is also not for fuel injection systems, JUST like it says on the hose - but is in the plane with an IO-360. NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE PROP GOVERNOR HOSE, JUST ONE OF THE MANY NAPA PARTS FOUND. So yup, I'm going with "NAPA auto parts bullshit".
  24. We just found the docs saying a flex hose is legal - but it has to be a Type D - not whatever this NAPA autoparts bullshit is that we have on there now. It's absolutely not the right line, so regardless it's still an illegal shortcut.
  25. $15 of bike tape and you're already better off.
