  1. I'm running v5.3 on my 530W
  2. Off the phone with Garmin. Old update process didn’t work. They are sending a replacement card immediately and said they want my old card - they have a case open and the engineers are now looking in to it because its happened enough times.
  3. Buried on the Garmin pages are these links to the latest versions with windows installers. Alternate Download Process If you are having trouble updating your device we also provide a method to update your databases manually. Navigation Data Americas-North 2102 Obstacle Worldwide 21B1 Terrain Worldwide 20T1
  4. That "older update method" is a Google Chrome plugin that is no longer supported and will no longer work. That's what they just punted me to as well.
  5. I will call them when I can - early next week I hope. The terrain card showing this is new, out of the box. :-/
  6. Yes, that's what I'm saying (I'm "Hans Messing" from facebook :-D ) Latest update trashed two TAWS/Terrain cards - my old one and a brand new one. Finally got a third brand new one to work and now I'm getting an "obstacle database integrity error" even though the update says it worked fine.
  7. Like this? Says the load is fine but this is what I get.
  8. Yeah, tried that with both. My next step will involve bourbon and harsh language.
  9. The most recent GPS update nuked BOTH of my terrain cards (010-10201-21). I have also heard from other Mooney drivers that this recent update killed theirs as well. The second card was seen for a moment, but as soon as it started to push data, it disappeared and hasn't been readable since - both are corrupted and cause my GNS-530W to crash on boot.I have one more spare brand new card, and am really reluctant to put it in my programmer to update. Without the terrain card, my GNS530W boots up just fine, except for the missing GPS data. Has anyone else had a problem here? I'm thinking that this is a Garmin issue at this point.
  10. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M046PID <--- Those. Cheap, easy, and work great!
  11. $20 roll of bike tape every couple of years, and I can change the color any time.
  12. Halfway there. The GFC-500 was certified for the F today. Article coming!
  13. I'm in the same boat - I have a battery conditioner on it whenever the plane isn't running, and it just doesn't hold a charge any longer. I have heard from local Mooney owners that they have gotten a field approval for an actual car battery from the FSDO - I am looking in to that, hoping to get the details. Will post ASAP if I can.
  14. Hey, Mooniacs! I redid my interior upholstery last summer and replaced all the original foam in the seats. I've also added sheepskin covers, which are great to keep the sweat down to a minimum. The issue I'm facing is that in a long flight (> 2 hours) I find my butt starts to REALLY hurt. I often fly 5+ hour legs and have gotten a memory foam insert to go under my Brad Pitt Lookalike Buttocks, but it's not cutting it. Anyone have recommendations for seat cushions that may help out for the long rides? Part of the issue I'm facing is that in my '68F I sit more horizontally than vertically, so my knees are kind of high relative to my hips. Thanks!
  15. Seems so - once I'm in cruise up high, it tends to run about 200 - even regardless of oil. We've checked the probe, it reads accurately.
  16. Man, that's a SWEET, CLEAN looking F. I hope it works out for you.
  17. I've heard it helps with cooling - not looking for extra knots (although those are always nice). Thoughts on that aspect? I've read that the guppy mouth creates a high pressure area in front of the prop, and that impacts laminar flow and airflow through the engine compartment out the cowl flaps.
  18. Hey, gang! The Aluminum Falcon (68 F) is coming up on annual time again in August, and I've been chasing high oil temps since my annual last year. 400 hours on the plane in that time, and my oil hovers around 200 degrees most of the time. I've replaced the oil cooler, and that didn't help (it was cracked anyway). I'm now considering moving the cooler to behind the baffling per the LASAR STC to move the cooler, and adding the cowling enclosure to help more. I'd like feedback from folks on these mods - worth it? If I do the oil cooler relocation, I'd like to add a second landing light in the hole. Is this something my A&P can fabricate and get a field approval for? Thanks!!
  19. I used aluminum/metallic tape by 3M, not the cloth duct tape.
  20. Lycoming is clear - oil AND filter every 50 hours or 4 months.
  21. Through Avemco, $110K hull value on a '68 M20F for $2150. Lower than last year by about $650. I got my instrument rating, and logged 250 hours in my Mooney, so that may play a role.
  22. I finally found a PERFECT wheeled cooler that can fit through the baggage compartment door of my '68 M20F, and seats firmly in the back. Unfortunately, it appears to be a walmart-only exclusive, as I can't find it anywhere else. I got it in Columbia, MO during a stop there on Tuesday. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-28-Qt-Laguna-Roller-Cooler/141897465 I put a couple ice packs in it, with the contents of my Missouri apartment fridge (I work in Missouri, live in Michigan) and 4 hours later when I was home everything was still frozen and cold.

  23. Ooof, that's leaving a lot of good engine hours on the table. That will shorten the life of your engine considerably.
  24. I 3D printed one of these with PETG . I've got a fuel totalizer in my '68 F, and it's very accurate. This is within 1/2 gallon on each side based upon my calculations.
