  1. If you are up for a bit of flying, highly recommend Chandler Aviation at KCHD. Frank is honest and a great troubleshooter. Highly recommended.
  2. Well folks, it works! @EricJ's lit up the strobe light and my neighbor A&P was happy. And me too Thank you for all the help and support as always. I will keep a few spares just in case as I am looking to start IFR training sometime in the near future and want to avoid extended downtime.
  3. Alright - thanks everyone, let's hope the P/S swap works. Otherwise, LEDs next. And yes W/B is a pretty clear requirement.
  4. Thanks. Yeah, its a risk as far as the conditions of the P/S goes but cheaper and quicker for the time being - gets me back up in the air. If this attempt fails, then LEDs it is. Keeping an eye on Orion 650E series for wingtips and Orion 500 for the tail's position & strobe. But got a question: Mooneys M20Ks are not listed on the Orion STCs from the product pages, it covers M20 B-G: https://flywat.com/collections/aircraft-wingtip-horizontal-stabilizer-lights/products/or6501r https://flywat.com/collections/aircraft-wingtip-horizontal-stabilizer-lights/products/or5001v STCs: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0080/5598/0128/files/10055068_CERT_REV_0_20151009.pdf?3623 https://www.whelen.com/pb/Aviation/STC/STC SA800EA.pdf The power supply that I pulled out of my aircraft has FAA-PMA/STC SA800EA in big letters on the label, but based on the doc it covers only M20 B-G? Both of STCs do specify type rating of 2A3 for the Mooney which is what the M20K are. Thoughts? Edit: maybe @kortopates can chime in since he referred to this problem in the LED thread
  5. Others can chime in with their experiences with Mechanics around Vegas for sure, in the interim, here's a MSC: 18 - Lone Mountain Aviation Inc. 2830 N Rancho Drive Las Vegas, NEVADA 89130 United States Phone: 702.309.2200 Website: lonemountainaviation.com Source; https://www.mooney.com/service
  6. Glad you found some. Sorry the one I was offering will take some time. She has gone through several iterations and wants it to look good. Hand stitching the logo!
  7. Everyone has been talking about switching A&Ps...sometimes its hard to find another near you. So best to keep tensions low and work with them IMO?
  8. After moving to a hangar, I happened to land across an A&P (his full time job is at a big airplane company in my area). Looks like he is logical and since its a direct replacement, asked for part and serial #s and if it checks out okay with testing, he will sign off.
  9. +1 Does the LED supply require at least one power supply?
  10. @MATTS875, from what I am told by others, first step is determine how long it will take, then account for 3x that of downtime while you go through this. It will definitely be a fun process but don't rush and also don't expect to go flying right away. @carusoam thanks for pulling me in. Now if only there was an easy way to replace the recog lights...
  11. Similar logic would seem to apply to repairing faulty nav light or strobe light wiring, which is not on the list even through repairing landing light wiring is on the list. How could one of these reasonably be considered preventive maintenance and the others not be? Well there it is. Agreed, logbook entry indicating the work done and the S/N of the replacement unit should suffice. And it will be tested on the ground and the connectors are molex, can't get any easier. I will probably still get an A&P to look at it given I am new to a/c maintenance. Did build a E30 race car back in the day and it ran fine on the tracks
  12. Haha clock started
  13. All fixed up and looking good - thanks everyone for the pointers and help!
  14. Okay bought one from @EricJ and a few off of eBay for spares. Given these were never replaced, since one failed, I am expecting the rest to go soon. So question is - do we need a A&P sign off on this?
  15. BTW - some good instructional videos on their Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/WashWaxALL/videos
  16. Very happy with Wash-Wax-All product line. Works well for the canopy, wings and also for the belly. Get the right ones and the mop brush does indeed speed things up.
  17. No, each strobe has one at the wing tip it seems. Guessing there's one for the rear strobe as well.
  18. @EricJ let me know and shoot a pic please. Right now my goal is to get the plane legal again and flying. I do want to go LEDs but probably next year @bradp Yours is producing .85A at 28V, I need double that based on the sticker on mine.
  19. Well so after weeks of owning a plane, it was finally time to take the wife up ... and of course ... something went sideways. Luckily I made up for it by replacing Oregon wine country trip with local brewery stop. However, now I am in need of a Whelen single strobe power supply, model # "A490ATS-DF-14 to 28". Will be calling all retail providers Monday but wondering if any one has spares to sell. Folks moving to LEDs likely dont need the individual power supply anymore? Any help appreciated! Only the power and strobe outputs were connected.
  20. Hah relayed!
  21. My wife is playing around with making cloth masks and is in the process of making a Mooney one for me. I will send a pic when it’s done.
  22. Went to the hangar to test this out - Mooney for sure dims the light in my 252 if the navigation lights are on. As the Mandalorians in Star Wars say "This is the way."
  23. Aha! I have this as a squawk to look into. I am also going to check this weekend if its a function of nav lights being on. Here I was thinking electrical problem! (and yes, I should have ready that portion of the POH more carefully)
  24. Sorry @N6758N - appreciate the pointer!
