  6. anyone know if a comant 2480-201 will fit on a m20e (replacing the 7 antenna) without extensive mods ? would really like to avoid punching more holes in the plane for gps antennaes
  7. standard case, over the visor

  9. Thanks for all the help, carusoam is probably dead on just need to bite the bullet. Gonna try flying with one radio this weekend. CB Forever looking at installing a Garmin 300xl and new to me audio panel after annual. might add a gns-480 if i can find one.
  10. Do you think the gmu11 can go on the avionics rack in back next to the Britain magnetometer?
  11. mx-170b and kx-170b, the kx-170b ( com2 ) seems better than the mx-170b com1 no only i hear static, atc can't here me at all when it happens
  12. so sunday, an absolutely perfect day for flying in Houston, I randomly decide to fly to Lake Charles, LA. take off, everything is great, get to altitude no problems, descend to approx. 3500, radios are nothing but static. Mind you I'm on flight following, ATC was NONE TO THRILLED. fly for a while, static goes away, switch to lake Charles approach perfect. On the way back, everything is initially perfect. absolutely clear thru the climb to 8500 and cruise. I switch to Houston approach (132.375 ) or something, static and drop outs. ATC gives me a what for then drops me from flight following. I need to get this fixed, its more than a little disconcerting when the radios just randomly decide to work. any ideas? really hate the idea of spending a bathtub of cash having someone experiment looking for the issue. I'm not sure what to do, or even how to proceed.
  13. actually, i'm based right next door to IAH. Planning on getting the required touch and go in on an IAH runway this year. Just thinking if this becomes popular, why not have the capability.
  14. Just noticed all the GBAS approaches for IAH, any chance us little guys will ever get that capability?
  15. What could possibly make an antennae go bad? I do want to upgrade to vhf/gps combo antennaes anyway. I really need to do something, ATC was alittle upset with me last week.
  16. How many wicks are necessary ? can i add a few to the non control surfaces portion of the plane ? wingtips, above below rudder, out side sections of empennage, etc ?
  17. MY Samsung tablets with Garmin pilot are bigger, smoother and way more useful than anything i know of panel mounted.
  18. I'm having the same problem lately. at certain times, the radio becomes so filled with static i can barely make out atc. one place it's common is when i'm about 3 to 4 miles from my home field and abeam the tower. total static.
  19. It's not really mounted, the case fits perfectly over the visor.
  20. I use Garmin Pilot, I run it on a Samsung s2 8.0 and a Samsung s3. It's really nice, almost to the point of not needing much else. Unfortunately, still have to buy a real GPS to be legal.
  21. That's actually an idea, may have to try that
  22. after 9 mos of ownership, i finally got a tail wind. seriously, i think this is the first time
  23. do i have to remove the old instruments? Not quite ready for a panel makeover.
