Actually, it’s an osmotic laxative, not a bulk laxative like Metamucil. One of my favorite trade names, GoLYTELY. Because it makes you “go” and it has electroLYTES. Also my favorite because you usually don’t go litely,, you go until you have massive diarrhea. https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2013/019011s025lbl.pdf

EGT - How hot is too hot?
ilovecornfields replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
So when I see a lemon exhaust I should get worried? I’ll see if I can get my fat head out the storm window. @PT20J, yes, the JPI does consistently show about 100 dF lower. I guess I don’t know which one to believe. My understanding was that they were in different places so I’m not sure which one matters. I’m less worried about POH limits and more concerned about what (if anything) might happen if I get too hot. -
I can assure you cases of beer (and bottles of whiskey) are still regularly exchanged at the maintenance facilities I frequent. And I agree about the litigious nature of our current society.

You are correct, sir. -
EGT - How hot is too hot?

I guess that was my question. Is there any harm if I run at “redline” EGT if the CHTs are good? Am I going to melt the exhaust and have it fall off the plane? -
I’ve noticed that at the power settings that I usually use on my Ovation (18”/2300 RPM) if I lean to 10.5 - 11 GPH the EGT approaches redline. I usually try to run 100 degrees below redline (either ROP or LOP) but I was wondering if I need to run cooler. If I run much leaner the engine doesn’t feel as smooth. I can run richer but I guess I’m not sure how much richer I need to go. The engine has been running great. Compressions, valves, plugs, oil analysis all look good.

Mooney TLS/Bravo - Why would I want one?
ilovecornfields replied to Red Leader's topic in Mooney Bravo Owners
Do the Ovations come with a 55 knot tailwind as well or is that just the Bravos? I’m trying to decide if I made the wrong choice. -
Tips for power off 180 in Mooney ?
ilovecornfields replied to pagirard's topic in General Mooney Talk
Definitely true. When I took my private pilot checkride the examiner asked me to show him s-turns across a road. I was proud of myself as I finished the maneuver until he looked at me and blurted “What the hell was that?!” We had a brief discussion about what he meant, he showed me one then I did one and he ended up passing me. Probably took pity on me because it was my 17th birthday. -

I think it might take them more than 20 minutes to get to altitude, though. -

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_South_Dakota_Learjet_crash That’s quite a crash! Hadn’t heard about it before. I wonder how long before planes will just automatically land themselves if there’s no pilot input for a certain amount of time. Maybe they can start to annoy you like the Teslas and if you don’t do anything they just land -

If you’re concerned about taxiing into another airplane, maybe you shouldn’t be flying. Is there data to support the assertion that cognitively impaired pilots in lower performance aircraft have fewer accidents? The people who know the answer to this (the insurance companies) have pretty much universally decided that at a certain point it’s too expensive for them to insure certain pilots. Just like with airplanes, some older models are in much better shape than newer ones but you have to draw the line somewhere. One of the challenges with cognitive impairment is that one of the things being impaired is your ability to determine how impaired you are. Pilots hate to give up flying but I’ve always approached it with the attitude that it’s a temporary thing. I’ll always consider myself a pilot but I know I won’t be flying forever. Edit: Here’s an article I just saw showing cognitive decline associated with aging and how you can take matters into your own hands to slow the effects. https://apple.news/ACVHm3wzYSeal7RcFUQz_Rw -
Going to do some touchups to Birdy.

I have neither, but it’s hard to imagine that a single atomic layer of anything is going to make a significant difference. -

I feel like I must have done 20-30 of these with @donkaye when I was getting ready for my commercial checkride. My advice is find an instructor who knows Mooneys. -

The same Noam who started the cringiest Crashtalk thread ever when he tried to defend Jerry’s inability to hand fly IFR and near-fatal GPS programming ineptitude, then tried to educate the airline pilots on what airline pilots should know, all in order to get hits in his YouTube channel? Not sure I’d consider him a source of sage advice. https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=218856 -
P&P article on insurance denials for older pilots

I don’t know if I have the patience to search around for it. I googled him and came up with some article in the Tampa Bay Times about him rationalizing why he didn’t help out during COVID and that was enough for me. I always thought his articles were just a tad narcissistic. I’m sorry he can’t fly his private jet anymore but there are other people with real problems as well. -

Sounds like he had some medical issues as well as the insurance problem. -

I have a degree in chemistry and have had beers and sushi in Westwood multiple times. I have no idea what you’re talking about or whether or not these coating would allow you to not rebalance the control surfaces. I think the answer you’re looking for is going to come from an aircraft detailer, not a chemist. -
Foreflight Legal for IFR Navigation?
ilovecornfields replied to 201er's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
How does GPS “go down?” Do a bunch of satellites fall out of the sky. The times I’ve lost GPS have been due to interference and then even my iPhone and cellular iPad lose position information. Have you been in situation where you lost GPS but still are able to get a fix using one of the other systems? Maybe I should get a LORAN as a backup. https://www.xyht.com/gnsslocation-tech/the-return-of-loran/ -
Garmin GTN650 or Avidyne IFD440
ilovecornfields replied to Desertdoc75's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Well, my 13 year old son prefers the touchscreen. He especially likes to change the XM radio station on the GTN750 exactly when I’m trying to load an approach. So I guess that cancels out your ATP son. ;-) @bluehighwayflyer and @donkaye, I’ve learned a lot from both of you and respect your opinions. Why don’t you take it offline? You’re both better than this. -
My first declared emergency
ilovecornfields replied to gabez's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
Is this really true? What if your suspected “mechanical reason” ends up being a false alarm. I’m not trying to argue with you but is there really an FAR or a legal interpretation that says “once you declare an emergency your airplane is unairworthy.” Seems like good advice to consider it unairworthy until proven otherwise but I don’t think this is a legal requirement. -
I believe if you follow the STC it requires a 337. Yes. For hubcaps.

My first declared emergency
ilovecornfields replied to gabez's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
This is the part that’s confusing me. When does the airplane have to be “returned to service?” I’d never heard before that declaring an emergency or posting something on a message board created that requirement.
