FINALLY got my LED Recognition lights in!! I just had the (new to me) shop do it when I went in for Annual. Haven't seen them yet, plane's done except for a couple of things they're waiting on to come back like the O2 tank. Is your plane done yet?
-
Sure, you can use what you have. But I'd seriously consider the GI275 if you do upgrade. And rather than the GPS175, might I suggest you look at the GNC355. You'd then be swapping out one of your Nav/Comms with a GPS Nav/Comm And you'd have the second original Nav/Comm for VOR/ILS/LOC as needed.

Cost or some other reason you're not going with newer digital equipment?
-
If you're not flying a Retract now, start doing it. I don't know the magic number, but the more Retractable time you have should help with your insurance cost and the number of transitional hours they want you to fly. After you're all done with whatever time they require you to have, look into the Mooney Safety Pilot Proficiency Program (PPP). You'll get some much more in-depth train both on the ground and in the air for your specific Mooney. They're held in different part of the country throughout the year. Being able to tell them you took a PPP the next year should also help cut down the Insurance costs. (At least it used to, not really sure with the Insurance Co these days.)

Question for the IA & APs here or to ask your guy. I really don't know, but if the output was blocked, I'd think there would be higher pressure going in and less coming out. But again, depends upon where the pump is and where the sensor is. I'm just thinking about the flow of liquids in general and how you can get different pressures at different points in the same line. But I don't know anything specific about your engine and how the oil flow. And my guess is this shouldn't apply, but there is an adjustment for oil pressure, at least on my engine. Don't know how it would get changed, but that is one other variable.
-
Okay, "eliminating" dumb question round... With the change in Wx you didn't up the weight of the oil? By any chance did you add more oil than normal? Did you completely fill the oil filter before spinning it on? If not, here is one I'm just tossing out there as a NON mechanic thinking of what could change the oil pressure. I've "heard" stories about oil filters coming apart inside if you don't fill them fill them first and then startup the engine. It sounds a bit far fetched and I'm guessing it is an old hangar tale or it had to do with older style filters on maybe radial engines, but maybe it is true. If the filter is defective and there are now extra material in the wrong place, might it not change the Oil Pressure indication. Depending upon where your oil pressure sensor is, it might be backwards and you'd show lower pressure if it was a defective filter. (Mechanics???) And do you just muscle the cowling off/on or do you have something to support it. I used to do it alone but it was really hard on the edges.

M20C down near Longmont, Colorado
PeteMc replied to Mooney in Oz's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
I was taught to look for the power POLES. Yes there could be lines running across long distances, but usually they put poles along the road to give them a little more stability in that area. And to be quite honest, you could be lining up for a real nice long field and get down to the "threshold" and find a power line running along the edge of the field right in front of you. -

I can't find it, but I think there were some studies that showed it was an old wives tale and there were excellent results with landing on a road. Not talking about a stop'n go roads, but more open roads with less traffic. So a rural area like where this plane landed is a perfect example. Wish I could find where I read or heard this... -
[Sigh....] And I really do know how to read... really!

I think that's the lawyers talking, not that it isn't a possibility. But for a battery in good condition and fully charged, I believe you will get the 60+ minutes. And I'm wondering what it says in the paper work for the G5 since they're both Garmin products?

The above wasn't here. He said it was on Aerodon.

Are they trying to swoop in as you and redirect the payment? I'd think that would be hard to do if you've already been in a conversation with the buyer.
-
What exactly did you want to lock down that needed a hubcap change? I was looking at them online and don't see any reference for an option of a locking or non locking arm.

How did the Sidewinder work with the weight of the Ovation? Any issues with slippage on the nose wheel?
-
Exactly why I have an Aspen and a GI275. But the two GI275s do make it easy to convert over the panel and get rid of all the vacuum system and update to digital displays.
-
Correct, both my Aspen PFD and my fully loaded Backup 275 have a TC in them, but my points still hold true. My TC is not required, I personally wanted to keep it as I had heard (and agree) the TC in the Aspen is SMALL and take some getting used to. But in answer to the original question, not everyone can remove all their steam gauges. Some may need them for an AP or it's just required for some other regulatory reason. And I don't know the details of the STC for the GI275, but can you really remove all your steam gauges if you install a single GI275? I would have thought you required a second fail-over device.

Garmin updates - anyone besides me having trouble?
PeteMc replied to hubcap's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Back in the early days of iPad Apps we would higher Coders to create individual Apps for large Corp. meetings. The Project Mgrs and many of the Coders would just not get why we would go back and say no, we need it to this and if I push this I should not just see this, but this other stuff too. But there were always a few (usually late at night when very few people were around) who would come over and say they were tying this, would this be helpful or what else should this do? I get they are usually disconnected from the User for various reasons and typically only do what they are told to do. But I really wish more would ask questions or push when they know that if they used a program that did X and it should do X/Y they'd be pissed too! -
KFC200 Trim Switch Needed - And Cost Reality Check
PeteMc replied to PeteMc's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thanks! I'll look closer at your earlier posts. -
My trim switch stopped working for Up Trim on my trip home after the yokes were removed and cleaned up during the Interior work. I assumed it was a loose wire they'd fix when it went in for the Annual. Just heard back that they are saying the switch is bad and it is $2,162.17 for a new switch and $937.18 for a used one. I haven't started a search yet, but for anyone that has had to change their Trim Switch, do those prices seem real? BTW, this is the first time for me with this shop after moving. Next question, does anyone know of a source for the part? I'll start calling around, but never hurts to already have one option if anyone knows of any.

You're welcome.... I've been bugging them about that since I got my GNC355. It was through pushing them on this I ended up with a Garmin guy that told me some of the background and how from the beginning you could have (should have in my opinion) been able to do the CrossFill, DB Sync, etc. The 2" boxes were out for 3 years before they finally modified the Software to allow those obvious features. And don't get me wrong, it's not just a Garmin issue. A lot of big companies just get in their own way. Now if *I* were running a big conglomerate, I'd want a small division that did nothing but coordinate what all the real creator divisions were doing... That would last about a month until the Board or the Stockholders shot themselves in the foot thinking it cost too much and was a waste. -

That is SOOOO True!!! Also their total lack of understanding of their own market. Take the GTX/GNC/GPS 2" boxes. "No one is going to use one of those boxes with the GTNs. They'll only get a GTN750 and a GTN650, so we don't need to make our whole line talk to each other." How'd that work out??? As I understand it, Engineering asked the question and was shot down. Maybe Marketing just wanted to try and push people to buy only GTN. -
Personal preference OR pending your installation you have to. I kept my Turn Coordinator as I had heard the Aspen's was hard to get use to, even more so than the Altitude and Speed tapes. But I put it where I can someday add something else if a new gizmo comes out.

They may not download immediately, but they will download automatically. Not sure what the schedule is for phoning home to the server and downloading as needed. But if you use the Clear Download and then check back in a few days the current DBs are there. There is a mode where you can not have AV DB Manager running in the background. If you have done this, then of course they cannot download automatically, only when you launch he program - probably when you're about to update your SD Cards. -
I put my GI-106B where you have your VSI. I wanted to have them side by side so that if there was a deviation it would quickly get my attention.

Owner Operating Handbook and Service Manual for M20B?
PeteMc replied to rockydoc's topic in General Mooney Talk
Look in your Download folder. The link doesn't open up anything, it downloads his PDF.
