  1. Probably both. Would not surprise me if it was the airports reaching out though. There's probably some city, county, state bean counter looking for ways to bring in more review. And maybe Vector reached out to them for some larger airport that it would make sense and they started asking about it for their smaller airports.
  2. @Sue Bon @Hank Ah yes, I remember the diesel engine scandal now.
  3. I believe it is a major issue if you live near an airport and have children. Or your children go to a school that is near or under an approach to an airport. And yes, regardless of the number of parents and children that are directly impacted, you are not going to find a government official that is not going to make a big deal about it. And yes, in many cases where they are actually close to the airport, there is a major health issue. So a small number that have a BIG voice.
  4. I'm afraid to ask. What VW story and I forgetting about? And what year(s)?
  5. The tobacco industry comes to mind....
  6. I missed it if you said, what airport was this? And I'd call the Tower Supervisor and ask them to review the tapes and get back to you. Tell them that you're interested to learn and if they'd get back to you with what they think happened.
  7. What about preventative protection added to the paint? Be it wax or more likely one of the many spray on products. Anyone know if you wiped any spills and then did another quick spray and wipe around the fuller for next time if it stops the stains? Now I get the leaks and stains around the panels is another issue. But hopefully there will be a fix for this relatively soon.
  8. You can't use your WingX as it is not compatible. You can do it with your FltPlan Go, but only if you have a FS-210.
  9. I can see it now... You: Unable Twr: What do you mean unable, I need you to depart immed... er... umm.... Cherokee 123, cleared for takeoff. But on the serious side... You really need to pay attention to what else is going on. I scare myself into a Pause every so often when I'm not sure if I was really listening to the Freq and have an idea of what's going on around me.
  10. Ouch! Even if you are cleared onto the Rwy, always a good idea to have been listening to hear if anyone else is already headed to that Rwy.
  11. Along those same lines, less RPMs just means less metal parts grinding against each other. A tiny difference per flight? True. But how do those numbers work out over the life of the engine???
  12. What was the suggestion?
  13. I wish I could claim credit for this... Someone over in one of the FB Groups pointed out that all these drones that are being spotted (the real drones) will all suddenly go away when they get their fill of photography all the Christmas light!!!
  14. Turf or paved?
  15. I was curious, so I just pulled down their manual. I can find no reference to chart supplement, supplement, afd, a/fd, clearance, delivery or anything else that would be in the AFD. The Airport section seemed get the most hits, but even that didn't seem to have everything. At least from what I can tell with the manual. Are you sure they have it?
  16. I like the purple for the UAS NOTAMs, what EFB are you using? G Pilot or something else?
  17. 10+ years ago, FOX was a News organization. I used to like switching between them and the other stations to get a better view from both sides. But now, your comments are maybe even a little to polite. And don't get me started on CNN Headline News!! I used to love them 20 some years ago. I'd turn it on between calls or meetings while I was catching up on emails, etc. It was great for getting the "headlines" of what was going on in the US and the world. I don't have facts, but I'm guessing it wasn't as profitable as Smart Phones started taking over and online news searches became a lot easier.
  18. Pick another Airport. An extra 20 minute drive might be a bit of a pain, but much less than if a storm, jet wake or a helicopter tosses your plane around.
  19. So there are always going to be exceptions, like the guy from China and the idiots flying their drone off an island in the Boston harbor IN the KBOS airspace. But otherwise I still contend originally it was just some people flying their drones legally and a LOT of miss identification of helicopters and planes. But then, it became a thing, so everyone with a drone was joining in and flying at night. So now you have all these people all over the place flying their drones and a lot of them were by the power stations, which we can see are everywhere. So good opportunity for someone that does want to do harm to just mix in with the crowd. So the smart thing to do is to re-enforce that no drones are allowed in these area. It could turn out to be a real thing and they just were not telling us. But the most obvious reason is usually THE reason.
  20. 2,500 ft is not an issue if you're light and the grass is WELL maintained. But if you're talking about leaving a grass strip on a hot summer day fully loaded for a trip, I'd give it a second thought. I've flown my 231 into a few grass strips, but I knew them well and knew people that were flying into them frequently. The one runway I did multiple times, Basin Harbor (B06) was 3000 ft and never an issue. But it was maintained by the grounds crew for the golf course that was there. So as long as they didn't have a lot of rain in the preceding days, that runway was better than some hard surface ones I've landed at. Also, you need to be careful about the lower gear doors on the 231. If the grass is not cut short, and some grass strips keep it a bit long to maintain the field, that will be an issue.
  21. Thanks for the update!
  22. Heard they arrested two guys for flying a drone around BOS. They were operating the drone from some island and a third guy escaped in a boat.
  23. They know. But then if they tell everyone it's nothing, they can't get them hooked and then run the hype story for days and days to try and bump up their numbers. Actually, some people know. But based on how they can keep a straight face on this and other stories, I think a lot of them do not want to be told anything that contradicts what they're saying on air. This way they can claim they were just telling the story that made sense to them. I used to like FOX News, sorry... FOX "Entertainment" now days. But their stories are so full of holes now that I don't bother. All about the money for Merdoch and the people he has on the air. And it's not a Conservative vs Liberal thing, it's about a FULL story, even if it is slanted your way. They just now conveniently pick phrases or sections to rile people up to keep watching, even if it is NOT what really happened. (Mob mentality at it's finest. )
  24. Note to Self... Pull a LOT more of the grounding wire out than you need and sort of whip it under the wing and then back out to your grounding point on the nose wheel. you'll never walk over or drag the hose over the grounding wire again. And that also means no more of those accidental disconnections when the wired gets pulled with the hose.
  25. There's got to be all sorts of residue on the inside from the gases. The the corrosion, oxidation and just crud as you mentioned on the outside. I was surprised though when he really cleaned the pipe down to bare metal there still was no conductivity. Anyone here know metals and what exhaust gases can do to an exhaust pipe to greatly increase the resistance?
