  2. Peevee, I've owned shares in several airplanes over the years with very few problems. Availability is not much of a problem, even with a plane that flies 200 hours a year and that is rare. Especially if the partners are complementary, say one guy who flies alone during the week, one guy who flies weekends, one guy has another plane to fly etc. Value is pretty easy to deal with - do a thorough market search and see what similar planes go for, use Vref to make adjustments for TT and SMOH etc. Arrive at a price that you would be prepared to pay outright, then divide by 4. Add subtract current assets and liabilities (i.e.. if you've decreased the base value because of high engine time, now you add back the engine reserve). There is some less tangible value like the costs of setting up the LLC, and the fact that it is all up and running. Last one in generally has it all done for him, and the lowest risk. I would pay more. Don't lowball the current owners - the current owners are probably taking a big hit due to the decrease in A/C values over the last 5 years, don't insult them by taking another 10% off - you have to live with them. Do your homework properly, and be prepared to show comparables and how you arrived at the number. If you are close - move ahead you'll get your value out of flying lots. If you are far apart - keep looking. Where does the money go - to buy a partner out, to fund the plane or to each of the current shareholders? Get an up to date financials - I bought into a share once and a whole lot of unpaid bills surfaced. I was to complicated and I was too naive to stick it straight back to the existing shareholders. There were a whole lot of things that should have been divided by 3 instead of 4. Don't worry too much about the PPI if you are joining an existing 'stable group' - get the existing shareholders to sign a disclosure both on the financials and the technical status - no known technical issues, all AD's up to date. Have a discussion of what they think the pending maintenance issues are, and future upgrades etc. Get enough of a purchase agreement that if the engine dies next year, and it turns out that they knew compressions were low and the mechanic had told them about it at last annual… Get creative in a good way - if the plane is worth $90k, offer $30k to be paid into the LLC as new share capital, use $15k for avionics upgrade, $5k for next years operating costs (insurance, hangar, annual etc.) and the balance to be held as an engine reserve? OK, now I see you are buying a 4th guy out - much of the same applies, except its harder to deal with liabilities that popup. So be a little harder on the share price - you are not going to offend the remaining 3, especially if you keep the number confidential. Make sure 'the group' provides a current financial position, so they are on the hook. Regards, Aerodon Don
  3. Maybe its your shop that doesn't realize there are options: https://www.acrartex.com/products Check out the pictures, then the install manual to see what is compatible with your ELT. Bear in mind the ELT probably came with a whip antenna and you will need to buy another one. A whip is quick and easy - the blade antennas may require 5 holes and a doubler riveted in place. Don
  4. I have an extra antenna for a G796 if you can use it? Don supercub180@gmail.com
  5. CW, That's a nice panel, is there something behind the flight instruments that prevented them being arranged in a standard six-pack? #1 way to create more panel, space is to install an HSI, and something like a Sandel SN3308 has a host of other functions too. Your 'RHS' is pretty full, it would be easy to replace your EGT with a combined EGT with FF. Not cheap, but has high value in running your engine properly and identifying problems. If you go with JPI it is a major step in the direction of a future 730/830/900 upgrade as a lot of the probes and harnesses are identical. Not all. See Marauder's 830 thread and video. Another way is to install a Shadin FADC and then display fuel and air data on your 430. But you need a heading input from the HSI. Regards, Don
  6. Here's a link to their site, makes for a new switch with 'options' like slow pulse, fast pulse or on. Or if you have two landing lights or wingtip lights, even more options. And because it's STC'd, gives you the basis for revamping your OEM wiring. Don
  7. Andy, this is a nice high serial number system at a really good price for the buyer. I have some new and used connectors and install parts if you need anything. Don
  8. I have a relay that piper used for avionics and landing lights. I'll look for a picture. But why not use the opportunity to replace the LL with a low current LED and max pulse switch. That gives you a solid paper trail for removing the relay all together? Don
  9. I seem to recall that the 'H' model has a built in intercom but no marker? I'd go for a PS engineering PS6000 or 7000 and have done with Bendix King stuff. The 7000's have better buttons, are usually stereo and marker, and reasonably affordable to repair. Don
  10. Hi, I had a new old stock EDM700 with a bad display. So sent it back to the factory for a fuel flow and 3" display upgrade, its pretty impressive. I can sell outright, or take your EDM700 in trade. Display only or complete kit and anything in between, contact me via email, let me know what you have installed and what components and transducers you need. Thanks for looking, Don, supercub180@gmail.com Edit: I have more than one available, this is what it looks like going into a C172 panel. Trying to get a real balanced look
  11. While all the information is displayed all the time on the EDM830, the data is displayed in larger letters down at the bottom. The switch allows you to scroll between all, just FF and just temperatures. Useful when looking at just fuel flow. I tried one installation without this switch, and after a few starts the EDM 'forgot' that fuel flow was installed. Only way to get it working again was to install the switch and power it up with the switch in the FF position. Don
  12. Yes I do, just send me an email to supercub180@gmail.com Don
  13. I'll take the intercom, PM sent. Don
  14. George, I have a new old stock one for you, Don supercub180@gmail.com
  15. Yes, SOL unfortunately. The issue with upgrades is that the cost of the probes and harnesses add up to more than the cost of a whole kit. But if you can reuse your EGT & CHT harness and probes, you have most of the system. I know EI have some competing products, so you should contact them to see what upgrades are available. Regards, Don
  16. Rad, send me an email to supercub180@gmail.com and I'll put together an upgrade package quote with a free used EGT probe for you to try. Don
  17. I have a couple of excellent EDM800 instruments that would make easy upgrades from EDM700 with or without fuel flow. Use your existing harness and add one or more of the following: I can take older EDM700's in trade, and pricing starts at $300 plus the options and harness you require. 1) OAT 2) RPM 3) Manifold pressure With these 3 options installed, the EDM800 will calculate % power. Then add: 4) Oil Temp 5) Oil P 6) Carb T 7) TIT 8) Fuel flow This generally requires no panel changes (Save $$) and has all the data of the EDM830. I also have EDM730/830 upgrade packages, and complete EDM830 packages (April / Sun n Fun rebates apply. Regards, Don
  18. Bill, I have a new surplus alcor CHT probe. I'll go look for it and send you a picture. send me your email address supercub180@gmail.com Don
  19. I have the components required to complete this system: KG102a gyro, Kmt112 flux gate, Ka51 slaving accessory, installation kits. Don Supercub180@gmail.com
  20. From what I can read in the WX500 install manual, there are several options for heading input, including serial, synchro and stepper. If 'stepper' is used the GTN650 will not display WX data on the map page but on the WX page. The WX500 manual also says that a direct heading input is preferred, because the serial heading from MFD is slower and less accurate. In the days of older GPS's or MFD's, I think this is valid. But with more modern GPS's like the GTN, the track calculation is so quick that it would not lag the actual heading. The WX500 can use either Hdg or Track from a MFD or GPS. I have used a Sandel SN3308 to control a WX500, and it clearly has heading. I assume it is sending Hdg to the WX500, but cannot be 100% sure that its not sending track. You've got me thinking. Practically it makes no difference as long as it works. The WX500 will work with a MFD with only track. So I think its more a question for your GTN650 installer to put to Garmin, whether the GTN650 will send track in the air data to the WX500. It looks like it might not in the following Note in the GTN650 install manual: >>Heading is not required by the GTN; however, to take full advantage of the GTN unit capabilities, an optional heading source is recommended to provided autopilot roll steering on ARINC 424 heading legs, to display TAS traffic and WX-500 Stormscope data on the moving map, and to calculate winds if airspeed is also available. FOR WX-500 DATA TO BE DISPLAYED ON THE GTN 6XX/7XX MAP PAGE THE GTN 6XX/7XX MUST HAVE A DIGITAL HEADING SOURCE, OR THE WX-500 MUST HAVE A SYNCHRO OR SERIAL HEADING SOURCE. A STEPPER HEADING SOURCE WILL NOT ALLOW WX-500 DATA TO BE DISPLAYED ON THE MAP PAGE. So, bottom line is I'm not sure. It will still display on the Wx page, but maybe not the map page.
  21. I have a really nice WX500 system for sale, like new antenna, high serial number processor with 430TT and no errors in the error log. New antenna gasket, antenna cable and connectors. Installation and operating manual. This is a great way to add a stormscope to a GTN650/750, GNS430/530 or Sandel HSI. Other MFD's too. Don supercub180@gmail.com
  22. OK, here's some more 'unbiased' data: http://www.cafefoundation.org/v2/pdf_cafe_reports/Wax%20Job%20with%20PICT.pdf 2.82 MPH in a Mooney 201 using Turtle Wax 'Vision' Don
  23. Try Bob Bramble of Aerolab. Always had good service from him. Don
  24. Hi, If you have an EDM700, here's a new upgrade package to add: 1) EDM830 colour display with USB data and GPS tracking 2) fuel flow 3) manifold pressure, RPM, oil pressure $1900 with the trade of your old unit. I can add or delete components if you have them installed already. Regards, Don supercub180@gmail.com
  25. Added a picture and a couple of cables, revised price.
