  1. Can't wait to sell my C-21 on ebay...it was a descent autopilot in it's day but those days are long gone. I finally have reason to say "thank you FAA".
  2. Chris, Aron, William: Thanks much for the input. Chris, the article from AVweb is excellent. I got the cowl off last weekend for the up-coming annual. I checked the induction and exhaust system and nothing obvious but my IA is really good at seeing things that I don't. The issue logically seems to be between the pressure controller and the wastegate actuator so the mousemilk on the wastegate arm is going to happen. I'll keep you posted on actions and outcome. August
  3. Thanks guys. I don't have the modern sophisticated engine analyzer but I do know the MP changes by 1-2", the RPM changes slightly but I have not watched FF during the oscillations so not sure what it's doing. The pressure controller is a good place to start. Let's see what the IA says.
  4. Thanks for the quick response. This is a 1979 K with an up-dated MB engine. The MP gauge is the old mechanical version. The MP does bounce up and down in fairly rapid oscillation. The power surges and then drops and surges again. That's what's so troubling.
  5. Need some ideas. On the last few flights, about 30 minutes into the flight the manifold pressure starts to fluctuate by about 1-2" of pressure. It's really disconcerting...I've had it start in the climb and at cruse. Changing the MP by a few inches (from climb to cruse) does not fix it. Changing the RPM from climb to cruse does not fix it. It does go away after a while. Good thing is it's annual time and I'll go through it with the IA but was hoping I might get some ideas from the gang. Where should we start? Thanks, August
  6. Peter, I'm heading to the hangar tomorrow. I'll bring the visors home in the event you want them, I can mail on Monday. Best, August
  7. I replaced my visors with LASAR visors and I think I have the part you need. Problem is I can't get to the hangar until next weekend. I'll take a pic and send it to you to confirm it's what you need. If it is, happy to send it to you. August
  8. Thanks MKTurbo. I only hear the relay click when trimming down so I changed the relay but no change after the new relay. I'll meter the switch next to see if I can learn more. Darn thing... I'm hoping someone has insight regarding the switch from Spruce - it would get great if the switch had the same functions.
  9. I have the Century trim system and it will only trim down so I suspect the switch is bad. Does anyone know if this switch from Spruce will work with the Century system? http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/trimSwitches2.php?clickkey=5126 Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Century trim system? Thanks 231MJ
  10. I have the same problem with mine. I thought it might be the relay but replacing it did not fix the problem. I suspect a new switch from Century costs a small fortune. Anyone have alternate idea than the fiberglass resin trick? Spruce has a similar trim switch for $250 (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/trimSwitches2.php?clickkey=5126), Anyone have experience with this switch? It looks so similar I'm tempted to try it but I have not found a wiring diagram for the system - anyone have access to the diagram? Thanks 231MJ
  11. Anyone have an install manual for a Century slaved HSI could borrow or obtain a photo copy. Please email me at aochabauer@gmail.com Much appreciated.
  12. It's a good looking plane and perhaps you just need to have the patience to do the up-grades over time rather than all it once. Even the best maintained airplane can have sudden, unexpected expensive issues, like we have all experienced. I also think the 252 is going to hold it's value for a while to come (might even go up when you consider what a new Mooney costs). I say BUY IT!
  13. I'll go back to the TCM manual to see if I can find the adjustment instructions. Heading to the hangar this Sat to see what's up. I'll keep the group posted. Thanks for responding to my question, this is my first experience with the list and I appreciate the help.
  14. Good point about the mousemilk however, the butterfly is operating freely. Does anyone know if there is an adjustment on the variable absolute pressure controller? The TSIO-360 overhaul manual is not clear about this.
  15. I have a 231 with the TSIO-360 MB conversion (like a 252/262). Last flight the boost went to 40" at full power - the automatic waste gate was not working. Any ideas what the cause(s) might be?
