  1. Develop an ads-b receiver with stuff available at amazon that costs $113.90. I think I'll build one. Reddit.com/r/flying Edited: Company name.
  2. Thanks for all the advice. I'll suck it up and pay the lady.
  3. So I just got an insurance quote back after my first year of Mooney ownership. My first year's insurance was: 1m/100k, I had 80 hours total time. zero retract time. $1160 I thought that was pretty darn good. My second year quote just came back. I flew just over 100 Mooney hours. same coverage...... $1147. I thought it was supposed to drop after 100 hours in type??? What gives?
  4. I'm looking forward to my first Uber ride. There's no cash involved, and I think that's great. Most of the cab drivers I've dealt with really prefer cash so that can evade the taxes, credit card fees, and regime fees. Several have been pretty frank about it. Uber is a no cash kind of service. I like that. It makes their drivers safer, and it means everything's above board.
  5. Is there a way to block pictures posted by a particular Mooneyspace member? I like his posts.... hate his pictures...
  6. Check out that blazing groundspeed. I thought headwinds were brutal in my C.
  7. Decoder rings must not come with the short bodies. You guys with bigger engines and big back seats must get all all the glory.
  8. I think it's a Comedy Central joke they were hoping would go viral on internet. Funny.... but kinda not funny because it perpetuates the myth that all us guys with planes are part of the American aristocracy.
  9. If I were Jolie, I'd thank this group for their letter informing me they'd stolen my phrase. ...Then invite them to pay me a reasonable (or unreasonable) royalty for their continued use of my work.
  10. This was tonight's top post over at Reddit. How do you not notice a cat in the wing during pre-flight? https://youtu.be/J_8mdH20qTQ Edit: grammar. I shouldn't post after midnight.
  11. Sometimes I get better luck with Google than I do with the Search bar. Does this help? Link
  12. I want my 1:35 back. I thought something interesting might happen.
  13. Mooney has a kit to install a towing limits indicator: http://www.mooney.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/sbm20-151.pdf I have to duck down really low to see it though. My C has it, but I'm missing the bright red sticker that says "Warning Do Not Exceed Towing Limits." Might have to take a trip to the sign shop... It would be nice to have a cover that has to be removed to tow, but can be left in place during flight. Two red plastic caps held on the ends with a bungee might do it.
  14. Time is the most valuable asset I have. Deciding what gets done, what doesn't; who gets attention, and who needs to wait is my biggest challenge. I'd pay extra to drive less and get to stop by the airport that is along a route I might take for something else. ...except when it comes to fuel. I feel a need to reward places that go out of their way to have cheap fuel and Kennett is just a hop away. But airplane time is different than Car time. I love one. Dread the other.
  15. I'm thinking about it. Probably should do it. It's hard to part with $895.
  16. The old guys get a free pass. Us young guys should probably do this: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=site%3Amooneyspace.com+%20fuel+stick I get better results using the site:mooneyspace.com tag with google than I do with the search function on the website. I'll be making mine this weekend with a plain wood dowel. Josh
  17. Watching my kids enjoy flying is awesome although they don't always love it. It beats driving to Grandma's house. I acquired my automatic gear well cleaner and navigator about 4 years ago. Maintenance and upkeep is time consuming, but not too expensive. He prefers not to sit in the coach section in the back. He likes Mooney's due to their correct tail shape and speed, and wonders how those C airplanes fly with the wing on top. He occasionally navigates instead of playing Angry Birds. I too couldn't be more proud.
  18. My red and white Mooney visited Dyersburg yesterday. Nice folks let me borrow a car for the whole afternoon. How is the catfish place at KDYR?
  19. Clarence has been good to me. If he says to pay up... $100 from me. You're at $6500.
  20. If I were buying a plane with the Butler tail, I'd argue it's a few thousand off the asking price. If I were selling a plane with the Butler tail, I'd argue it's worth a few thousand more because of the superior engineering. I know nothing about them otherwise.
  21. I'm not from DC, but here are two recent threads that might be a good starting point. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/15183-dc-temporary-hangar-help/ http://mooneyspace.com/topic/14471-airport-washington-dc-area/?hl=%2Bwashington+%2Bhangar
  22. I visited Melbourne, AR (42A) last week and discovered that 100ll was $3.57, so I topped off the tanks and flew ten or fifteen minutes home and parked the Mooney. These blue spots showed up over the next week or so. And I have a leak. Or a slow seep. Or a stain... And it does smell a little like fuel in the cabin when you first open the door. We'll check the fuel sender gaskets and make sure they're not leaking. After a talk with the local AP/IA, he's wiling to give patching it a try. I guess he'll use Don Maxwell's vacuum cleaner and plexiglass trick. And we'll follow the Maintenance manual for patching the fuel leaks. We're going the patch route for this one. Anybody have any tips for when the leak is on the top of the wing? Anything that will save us a little hassle or time? (and maybe my checkbook while we're at it)

  24. Glad the pilot is OK. That can't be good for business.
  25. What an honor it would be to still be able to fly into my 90s. That man deserves a trophy. Maybe a traveling trophy.
