  1. Try LINDEN - KLDJ. Then taxi or train to the NYC
  2. That's beautiful. We wanted to see the touch down though. Where is it? How many cameras do use have mounted on / in the plane at the time? Did you pay royalty on the song? :-) Last time I tried to use the song YouTube didn't let me use it.
  3. We have talked about the navigational apps for iPads and Androids. A lot of people use them and like them. How about other apps for aviation? Can you share what you use and how good are they? I use MyFlightbook as a log book. You can even set it up to log your flight automatically based on TO & L speeds. Aviation W&B for instant W&B calculation and graphic interpretation. I really like this one. GenAviation - CFI Tools for instant weather, TAF, route WX, etc. It is on my phone so the info is available all the time. This one has bunch of other features ( graphical crosswind interpretation, E6B, VOR, Duats, Nearest, etc.).
  4. I had all above. My experience is: Garmin GLO has GPS only if I remember correctly. GDL 39 3D has weather, traffic, terrain, back up attitude indicator and synthetic vision. That's why I have the GLO in the plane as a backup only. Garmin Pilot - after all the upgrades I love it. I have two iPads ( regular and mini) and the Google Nexus with the android OS. The android doesn't support all the features that you can find on iPads. This technology is evolving fast and there is something new literally every week so you need to keep an eye on it before you decide which way to go.
  5. They have the same rocker switches. That's has to be it.
  6. Thanks.
  7. I actually combine both techniques. I prepare my flight plan on my iPad using the Garmin Pilot app. I add some user waypoints if I feel like I need ones. Then I print out the iPad screen shot of the sectional with my magenta flight path on a large 11 x 17" paper in color. Then I use the Sharpie to write down on the printed sectional all the Atis, Approach, Tower and Naviad frequencies for easy reading. I draw the arrows with the course directions and radials. I emphasize right patterns and pattern altitudes. And any other notes I might use during the flight. In this format it is very easy to read and manipulate one big ( not huge) sheet of paper with big letters and notes. Then I fly by my iPad but my printed backup is right next to me. I have found it very convenient and it is not too much work since I create the flight plan on the iPad anyway.
  8. Ok. Thanks
  9. Thanks.
  10. I would really like to have some nice pictures of my plane in the middle of the flight. I was about to ask some of my pilot friends from our airport to fly next to each other and take those pictures. What should be taken into the consideration by doing stunt like that? Speed, distance, altitude, communication ?
  11. At least 4 at different places around the plane and multiple pens. At least two pairs of reading glasses.
  12. From the album: Spark Plugs Holder

I've got this lovely spark plugs holder from a fellow pilot. He makes them and he can personalize it. I have his contact info if anybody interested.
  13. I am wondering. With all the navigational apps, external GPS units, glass cockpits, iPads, iPhones, etc. does anybody still use manual VFR Xcountry trip calculations, EB6, Xwind corrections, visual waypoints every 15 miles or so, paper flight plan forms, paper sectionals on the lap? How safe do we feel to go electronics only? I am talking about VFR flying. I love to use them and I trust them. I use two independent iPADs ( regular and mini both with Garmin Pilot App ), GDL39 3D that connect to both of them simultaneously plus Garmin GLO GPS as another back up, multiple battery packs and chargers, backup handheld radio. Plus you have weather, terrain, traffic ( kind of ) and other info right there ready for you. It just seems much easier, safer and enjoyable to fly with help of these gadgets. All the charts are current all the time and you don't have to think what sectional to use and keep on the lap. You don't have to search for the waypoints and get nervous if you don't see one. But I am very fresh pilot and I could be wrong.
  14. The real question is how to prevent things like this from happening. If he is experienced pilot, I believe responsible and he did his takeoff performance calculations, what went wrong? How much margin do we have to build into those calculations?
  15. That looks like a case. Thanks.
  16. Thank you very much. That's what I was about to ask. Where is the servo? I am an electronic engineer so I should be able to troubleshoot it. I found some schematics on line too. Thanks.
  17. Ok. I will keep you posted when I find out. I have to get it fixed as I am about to start my IR.
  18. My Cenruty IIB autopilot didn't work today for some reason. It worked few days ago. After I landed I try it again without engine running and could hear in the quiet hangar environment that servo is moving as I turned the roll knob. It looks like the clutch doesn't engage or something. There is no resistance on the yoke. Is there any way to check it out?
  19. Thanks. My concern was that the engine is " under heated " and it runs too cold as it barely reaches the green bar. We will see how it works in warmer temps but I hope to have the engine monitor installed by then.
  20. I know it is still cold in NJ but I want to find out if it is normal that my CHT ( 1977 M20J) even with the closed cowl flaps and on the climb reaches barely 1/4 of the green portion of the gauge. It stays there or lower during the cruise and it always leaves the green field when I reduce the power and on the descent of course. During the run up and long taxiing it reaches almost 1/2 of the green bar. The outside temp today and last few flights was around 0 Celsius in my cruising altitude. I don't have the engine monitor installed yet. 1. Should I get the sensor and gauge checked or is it normal? 2. Can I check the temp sensor and gauge accuracy myself?
  21. Yes. Both of them. Thank you.
  22. I know it was discussed many times here but here is my scenario. The new engine was installed in my M20J 10 years ago by previous owner. He put only 480 hours on it since then. Would it be any benefit there to put the CamGuard and / or different oil in the engine. I am using AeroShell 15W-50 now. I will do soon oil analysis and filter check after 25 hours I put on it. My concern is the corrosion of course. Any way how to find out if there is any corrosion beside the unreliable oil analysis?
  23. Do we know why Porsche engine didn't work out?
