  1. I went to see my baby today to make sure she is ok in this freezing temperatures. Routinely I have checked the oil level and it was lower about 0.25 qt. than I expected. I have checked the oil level after my last flight week ago as I always do. It was probably 1 hour after engine shut down but also outside temperature was in the 60 - ties. I don't know the oil temperature but I am estimating 80 F one hour after shutdown. Today it was 19 F in the hangar. So I have suspected it has something to do with the temperature. I have performed the volumetric cubic thermal expansion calculation and yes, it shows that my oil really did shrink in volume about 0.25 qt. Good to know.

    Headrest

Getting closer to get the interior re-done. Headrests from Dodge Grand Caravan. Nice fit.

  5. I have only 125 hours total. Diamond DA20, Cessna 172, Piper Warrior, Piper Arrow and finally last weekend my very first solo in my new M20J. I did 11 nice crosswind landings. I've got my PPL in Jun 2013 and I started in February 2013. I am working on my IFR right now.
  6. It depends how fast you need it. I am going to get a engine monitor with the fuel so I could have one from my plane. It's FT101 but I don't know what kind of sensor it has. I should know by the end of the week.
  7. Thanks
  8. What brand and model number is it?
  9. I don't understand guys what do you mean. Can you explain please? I want to learn something too.
  10. I have a original GDL39. Can it be upgraded to 3D? If not, I have my GDL 39 with the battery pack for sale. I really like it and together with the Garmin Pilot app ( and Garmin D2 watch as a back up ) it is one awesome tool. Navigation, approach plates with georeference, safe taxi, weather, traffic, terrain, you name it. You can add the new Garmin VIRB camera and record you flight parameters.
  11. I just got back from the airport after flying my recently aquired M20J. Very, very , very nice. I can't wait until morning to get back into it and take off. My instructor that I have to do 10 hours with is very impressed with the J. It will be busy morning tomorrow as many fancy jets are arriving for the big game - KBLM.
  12. I have got it on Jan 16th and charged it fully. It still has 50% battery left. I have played with the watch and use GPS for short period of time. I am going to fly today and leave the GPS on. I will report back how long it lasted.

    Heater

Yes it is standard 1500 w heater. I have used it first time yesterday. It was 27F in the hangar. I turned it on and directed the warm air into one of the cowl flaps. I have checked the temp with the infrared touch less thermometer. The engine surfaces were 25F (through the oil check opening) . After approx. 1 hour and air temperature 75F from the heater ductwork outlet the engine surfaces (cylinders, engine block) went up to 45F. After another hour it was almost 60F but the outside temp went up to 37F as well. I don't know the internal temp of the engine but I think that after 3 hours is the oil warm enough to safely start the engine in this weather.
  14. Very nice.
  15. KBLM ( Monmouth Executive - Belmar). Love that 7400' strip.
  16. You guys make me jealous.
  17. Those D3 and D4 are probably sitting on the shelf somewhere in China already. But I am used to it. My job is to convince our clients to drop $100Ks to the automation systems that we have installed two years ago and they are all of the sudden obsolete.
  18. Good one.
  19. That's why we use the forums. All great ideas will eventually come out. Thanks
  20. Good idea with the magnets.
  21. Thanks for the educated thoughts. The last two compression test ( prebuy in October then some taxing and run ups and then annual in January shows 76+ compression on all cylinders. That's encouraging. I will look for any other signs and I will perform the borescope probably too.
  22. This is the best way to deal with that. Fly it and keep an eye on it. I hope to fly it at least 10 hours this weekend. Thanks for your help everybody.
  23. Thanks guys. Eventually I will go with something more sophisticated but I really want to fly this weekend and it is still freezing outside.
  24. I am prepare for the shock. But that's my idea - to see the either improvement, stability or decline.
  25. I am a strong believer in adding value to the property. It is much easier to sell a house with running water and electricity than similar house without it. You can do some serious and safer flying now. Good job.
