  1. My Tempest fine wire plugs are on their way. Should I attempt to change them myself? I am pretty handy around cars and other machinery but I never change the plugs in the plane. Anything to be aware of? What's the best practice? ( I know, see your A&P). Thanks
  2. I have a suspicion that it could be something with the engine running a little rough. I will start with the balancing and changing plugs. Thanks.
  3. Thanks. I am scheduled for my balance work next week. I was just wondering if you guys notice ANY vibration at all on your planes or they are smooth as those fancy cars. Mine is not bad IMHO and as I mentioned my CFII said he didn't notice anything unusual.
  4. It was mentioned in some topics that 3 blade props have more tendency to cause a vibration. I have 3 blade McCulley on my J and I'd like to hear some opinions on the vibration topic both 2 and 3 blade props. My question is if there is any vibration " allowed" at all. I can feel some of the vibration on my yoke ( not on the rudder pedals) and sometimes I think the glare shield is vibrating a little. It depends of course on the power / RPM setting. I have flown last few days with my CFII and ask him if he thinks there is unusual vibration he said no. So do you guys have super smooth no vibration planes ( specially two blade props) or it is pretty normal to feel a little vibration in the plane? I have flown Pipers and Cessnas before but I don't recall how they felt. Thanks
  5. Jealous. I couldn't make it this year. It would be first time for me too. How was it?
  6. It is very easy for the bad guys to find out that you have a plane ( so they think you are rich), find out your address and then just wait when you fly away. Pretty easy to figure out. It is not so easy to get this kind of info by googling the license plate. I think it is very disturbing. Also why should everybody ( including my friends, family, business partners and enemies) know what places I am flying too? Since there is usually only one name attached to the N number they know it's you. Not cool. I don't need FAA to record my plane's performance. I can do that myself. I am the PIC in the plane.
  7. Nice.
  8. I like to have my mini to the left but I couldn't find any mount for it. So I have fabricated one. I got simple and cheapest knee holder for the mini from Sportys. One with the elastic straps in the corners for easy placing and removing the iPad from it. I have removed the Velcro strap from it. I used it as a platform for my holder. I used the GoPro camera holder that is actually a box cover iwhen you buy a new gopro camera. It is a big black plastic square that camera sits on in the box. I have attached the gopro black plastic to the knee holder platform with 4 flat head screws. I used the gopro suction holder to attach the gopro black plastic piece now with the knee holder platform. ( The gopro arm between the suction holder and black plastic piece has to be modified a little to fit them to each other). I attached everything to the corner of the pilots window. It positions the iPad mini in the perfect spot for me. It is almost in the eye level, not to close to read it and it is not in the way to see all the instruments. It doesn't block the outside view neither. I will post some pics later today when I come back from the airport.
  9. I have both and the mini is actually not that small.
  10. There are many institutions, labs, testing facilities and universities that can simulate and develop the corrosion in shorter time period and evaluate any effect of the substance that was applied to the material. It still takes a lot of time, money and serious science to draw any kind of conclusion but they should hire them to do the job. We shouldn't rely on the results provided by the parties who have any interest in the product. It should be done by an independent third party institution with good reputation.
  11. Today's schedule: 1. Wake up at 5am - check 2. Take off by 6:30am - check 3. Land by 8:00am - check 4. Get home by 8:30am - check 5. Make sure wife didn't notice I was gone - check And now the rain and low ceiling can come.
  12. Roger that.
  13. Glenn, I said hi to Priscilla as I saw her few times this week. She said thanks.
  14. I have polished my spinner last week with the California Custom product. Looks sweet.
  15. Where did you get it done? Any A&P can do that?
  16. TonyP, same question for you. How big/deep was the pot hole and taxiing speed that caused the strike? Thanks
  17. Bob B, how did the prop strike happen? I just want to learn to avoid that. I think you have mentioned somewhere else it was a pot hole? How big is the pot hole to cause the prop strike? High taxiing speed? Thanks
  18. I cant wait to get my engine monitor installed and start to tweak my settings and flying habits to get most of the bird. This weather in NJ drives me crazy BTW.
  19. Ok. Good luck and report back how it went ( or from wherever you will run out of gas) .
  20. Is it like 900nm and 6 1/2 hours?
  21. Jim, What is your speed at this setting? And what altitudes you usually fly?
  22. Nice. And save some for your retirement. You will have plenty of time to polish your spinner.
