  1. Where in Az did you find the plane?
  2. the cheapest most reliable thing I have found is a hair blower / dryer 1200 watts for about $10 - $12. simply lay it in on top of the engine, throw a blanket over the cowl. At Zero F takes about an hour and your ready to go. I have also duct taped one to a chair and pointed it up the cowl flap so then I had $20 invested with two blowers and then only took 35 minutes. If you don't have electricity buy a small Honda generator, it also has other uses. These blow dryers will run hundreds of hours in fact in 20 years of use I've never had one fail. pre-heat the cabin while your at it.
  3. The personal replies don't occur in all topics. Most occur in general aviation topics - not mooney specific. I vote we keep the website for the really valuable info on Mooneys.
  4. And just how long do you sit and wait for an IFR clearance to take off when there just aren't enough people to man the system. Oh, by the way, have you ever heard of structured fee schedules? The extra $20 will get you a clearance within 10 minutes. Are you a commercial flight, business, or pleasure? It will be competition based; Ultralite, Experimental, ELSA, SLSA, 4 place piston, turbine private, turbine commercial, jet private, jet commercial, who will go first and who will go sit. The bottom line is it's all political and the only way to keep your privileges is to be political and recruit, recruit, recruit. Every government program I've ever been mixed up in has the same odor and I am really tired of kissing bureaucrats.
  5. I think you are very perceptive. We have watched this government do it all by circumvention.
  6. I have same engine and mine has been welded. keep in mind that in order to weld it you have to send the case halves in which means you are going to have the engine completely apart anyway. May as well plan on an overhaul and hopefully there isn't anything else to repair but if there is you can be glad you found it before it caused an emergency.
  7. I have a whelen, very satisfied. only draws an amp or two instead of blowing the fuse right when you need it the most. I recommend LED landing lights.
  8. Probably be fixed but do they have to do a tear down inspection of the engine? Would cost more than fixing the prop. Uff Da
  9. My hot one is also #3, I'd like to ditto Oscar's request for a picture.
  10. camguard and the instructor, If the instructor is not a double i, make sure he has a current IFR and go along for the ride.
  11. Simply heating the engine compartment to a temperature that is 20 degrees warmer than the current outside (the engine compartment) air temperature will lower the relative humidity around the engine and keep it dry. Inside a hanger the temperature will be more stable than outside on the ramp.
  12. Tell your beautiful wife to bring it all as long it is all her stuff. big rubbermaid totes fit nicely in the back seat and load fast. As for you wear one pair of shorts and bring another in a small plastic grocery sack along with your personal hygene stuff. The rest of what you need you can buy at the show or Walmart. Park on a high spot at the show as it is probably going to rain and you don't want to be down hill from anything. Be sure to bring a couple fold up lawn chairs and an umbrella for the rain and some shade. There is a good steakhouse just outside the Northwest corner of the airport, not a bad place to be close to. There are two shower houses in the Northwest end of the field, bring a couple towels. there is free bus shuttle all around the airport and out to the seaplane base. Gas for the plane off the truck is usually reasonably priced, however, if you order it be prepared to wait around the plane for at least an hour. Last year they never did show up and we left with 1/4 tank and headed for nearest airport with fuel. Also, bring some of those electronic mosquito repellers. Solar power for the laptop or your phone would come in handy or at least be able to plug it in to the plane.
  13. A friend went into the US Navy, he would get sea sick air sick just sick so they put him in the spin machine ( a huge centrifuge ) after a week or two of that he was over it, never got sick again. The wrist bands are called Sea Bands position them so the ball puts pressure on the vagus nerve (between the two big tendons in the wrist) sometimes it works.
  14. I'm smart, I'm good looking and dog gone it people like me.
  15. I took my commercial CR in a 180 hp Arrow. I got it to fly, the DE was so amazed that he signed me off right then and there and congratulated me said "takes a darn good pilot to make and Arrow fly. Mooney forever.
