  1. AOPA ask for my updated credit card info, the old one expired. I was on auto renewal, and was not going to renew. After a few weeks they billed my credit card, without the updated info, I sent an email to member services telling them I will not be renewing and that is why I did not give the updated info. They credited my credit card. (all was done through email).
  2. Lancaster Avionics @ KLNS in PA did an EDM 800 for me , excellent and clean install, never a problem. Henry Weber is there also, a first class Mooney Service Center , they can also do that for you, maybe that is farther than you like , but you cannot go wrong with either of those choices.
  3. Webers at KLNS Lancaster ,PA, may be a little out of the way but a great Mooney Service Center
  4. The closer it is the more you can use and enjoy it ,it can easily turn into all day to fly a little ,and if everyone in the family does not share your enthusiasm you are in trouble
  5. Thanks for the info , my job is easier with all the help. Anybody else just use the I pad, built in GPS ?
  6. I am going to buy an ipad mini for mounting on the yoke , just VFR use, what do you recommend ? I need everything , I want a separate GPS, anybody use a Bad Elf GPS . I heard they are good.. Can I buy everything in one place, Where do you recommend ? Thanks.
  7. That is the Mapalist ,not Mooneylist , that Maxwell is on frequently. You can sign up and get emails of the questions daily. Or give him a call.
  8. I always used Webers a Mooney Service Center at KLNS in PA with excellent results , but have heard great things about Maxwell and he is always helpful and knowledgeable and takes time to answer questions on Mooneylist.
  9. You should find a Mooney Service Center in your area and have them do it , it may not be rocket science but there are a lot of little things to do properly the first time , it may save you more than just money .Did you take some pictures when you removed it? That would help.
  10. Calling Weber Aircraft at KLNS where it is based is the best free advise you will ever get , Dorn will know it or with a careful inspection be able to tell you what you need to know , There is no one better than Webers to look at the plane, and they are always very reasonable. It may be a great deal , but your due diligence is required.
  11. I would like a detailed assessment of their accomplishments ,yearly . Not just have them take credit for the few good things that come their way, we should not have to guess what they actually accomplished. I do not think they should just be given the money and not prove their worth. Yes I do like the ASF part of the membership.
  12. I started the discussion to get every ones opinion and see what everyone thought, and every one is entitled to do what they want with their money . I am pretty sure, it is not the money or the hat , although I do think the hat thing was funny...It is the principal of it . I just feel like occasionally, a message needs to be sent, that if all we get is talk and not much action , If I pay dues, they assume everything is O.K.. , Of all the things that were mentioned, dwindling pilot population , medical reform, avionics certification, airport access ,unleaded avgas, are all things AOPA has been talking about for years, I just do not see much progress, I may be missing something. It just seems almost like our government, to big and wasteful, and maybe to busy to look out for the people it was intended to look out for. I did not support most of them either. Again, Thanks for all the responses.
  13. AOPA has been talking about the 3rd class medical, unleaded avgas, getting more people interested in flying, saving airports, less Airworthiness Directives on certain engine parts, and on and on it goes , they may have a worse time getting things done than our government, and as for the medical ,I think congress has a few older pilots who even realize nothing is getting done about it , imagine that.
  14. I really appreciate all the comments this topic brought, and I will most likely let it expire and see if the new leadership changes anything for the better. I am sure most are at least a little disappointed with them ,and I know of no other way to show them, but to stop paying. I really feel like they are more worried about trying to make it look as though they are doing something , than actually doing it. Thanks for all the responses.
  15. If you decide to use a sealer I would use painters tape on the windshield and the airplane so you get a perfect 1/16 or 1/8 bead of sealer , you pick the color , but it will make a nicer job. If I had to do it, I would do the whole way around so it looks nice. I cannot recommend a sealer , some are safer for aluminum.
  16. I would not use Dawn , I cannot remember , but someone told me it is very hard on the paint . I have had excellent luck with CRC or WD 40 on the bottom and Meguires on the other surfaces , both easy to use. I am no expert though.
  17. I have been an AOPA member for about 15 years, but seriously cannot see much value in it. The only way I know to show them I have had enough of there unfulfilled promises and money grabbing B.S. is to not pay the price for admission, which with the medical and legal service plan adds up to around $150.00 . I am tired of the promise to help with the medical , now congress may step up and AOPA wants to take credit, help save our airports , help get new pilots ,help with unleaded avgas, the list goes on and on . They are very much like big government with lots of promises , little action, and the we need them to save us from ourselves attitude. I already know most of them are nice people, and we do need advocates on our behalf, but I honestly think it is not AOPA that will do it, It is people like Jolie and Mitch who frequent Mooneyspace and all the members here who pitch in to help others with great advise. Also small things like monthly Mooney Flyer and there are others, but give me just one good reason AOPA is the voice of general aviation. Do not tell me we need someone or because they are. Sorry for the rant.
  18. On a 50 year old airplane , this should not come as a surprise, these airplanes need very thorough and specific maintenance , the biggest surprise is with the lack of thorough maintenance they keep on working. One more reason to visit your local Mooney Service Center, lower insurance rates for everyone. This is not meant to criticize any mechanic , he may have been very thorough , Maybe pilot error. It may be your lucky day, engine IRAN and prop replacement...Nothing to be sorry about, till the new insurance bill comes.
  19. Someone who is trained to look at your specific model of airplane is the best money you will ever spend, period. A Mooney Service Center looking at your big investment is cheap insurance, I am sure there are a few mechanics not associated with a Mooney Service Center who are qualified and excellent , but chances are they are not any better or any cheaper, why go anywhere else, at least initially, if not very regularly. If the plane did not at least occasionally visit one I would be more cautious , but use your good judgement and due diligence. I have used Webers in PA with excellent results and have heard great things about others , find a close one and ask what people think of the service and go from there.
  20. I would fly with someone regularly or put fresh oil and camguard in it , for lengthy storage pay someone to lay it up correctly , it will be less costly in the long term .I must say if you have a heated hanger it makes it a lot nicer , still over a couple weeks would concern me , weekly or more to run is better , but you already know that.
  21. Jimmy at AAA can definitely tell you exactly what it will sell for no B.S. , you may want to ask him, take his advise, and sell for what he suggests and save your self months of more expenses . He definitely knows the Mooney market and the old valuations are a little or a lot high , he needs to post a new one. Move on to the plane you want sooner rather than later.
  22. Bennet
  23. Call Dorn at Webers in Lancaster PA or a Mooney Service Center close to you and ask them of planes for sale that they would recommend, There is a big difference in maintenance ,and an excellent shop is a valuable asset and in the long run a much more enjoyable experience and I know Webers is an excellent and fairly priced Mooney Service Center. I have flown with a few mooney pilots who could not believe how smooth ,quiet , easy starting and fast my plane was and they had the same model, a few years older. It is a buyers market buy the best one you can afford , it will be the least expensive in the long run..
  24. Planecover in Salisbury fit real nice, I did add extra material to completely cover the cowl , I also got cowl plugs and a bag for the cover.
  25. I always considered my breakfast run local, about 80 to 100 miles one way but maybe I am more of a cross country flyer. The Mooney is a very nice flying Airplane , lots of fun .
