wood_fly Posted December 14 Report Posted December 14 I'm thinking of making my own leather wraps for my control wheels. It would be really helpful to have an M20J yoke that is out of the airplane in the shop to work with while I size, cut and stich the leather. This yoke will NOT be going in my plane..just acting as a size dummy. Heck, I'd even take a 3d model (I could print one) if someone has a lead on that. Thanks guys.
N201MKTurbo Posted December 15 Report Posted December 15 Good luck with that. They have value. I can’t see where there is a lot of them laying around.

There are very few wires going to your co-pilot yoke. Remove it - play around with it - cover it with leather. 2. Have an avionics shop de-solder all of the wires and remove the pilot's side yoke. Immediately have them install the one you just covered on the pilot's side and re-solder everything. 3. Take the pilot's yoke that they removed, cover it with leather and connect the wires re-install it on the co-pilot's side. 4. You're done. 2
Hank Posted December 15 Report Posted December 15 @wood_fly, I plan to do this in the near future. I will make paper patterns with the yokes installed, cut the leather pieces a bit oversized at home, and test fit and trim them in the hangar. Sewing will be the challenge, sitting in the cockpit, but i hope to attach several pieces together at home and just do the "wrap" part in the plane. If nothing else, I can tape the pieces together for sewing at home
