Hello I am looking to buy a M20J Mooney. I have looked at all of the online classifieds ASO, Controller, Barnstormers ect.. and want to put this out in case someone knows of a hanger queen in there respective area that might be for sale.

Looking at spending around 115k tops. Would like lower 3000 hrs or less TT and under 1000 SMOH.

Let me know if you know of any around your area.

You can find a good airplane by speaking with MSCs. Pick up the phone and call some. They see a lot of Mooneys and know what owner may be looking to sell. Don't rush, take the time and look at a lot of airplanes. Stay away from brokers. They are not much different than used car salespeople. They don't care about your interests as the buyer. Pay your own Mooney mechanic to work for your own interests.

If you are in MN is is a no brainer to talk with Tim Lundquist at Strategicaircraft.com.  The link that Parker posted looks like a nice bird.  I purchased my Mooney Missile brokered by Tim at Strategic.  I can also recomend the well versed Mooney Mechanic, Jason Doscher, I used for the prebuy (and then eventual work found by the prebuy including engine overhaul - he caught a hugh issue which saved me a lot of money, and then got to work on the plane once I owned it before flying it back to Maryland).  Also, Tim knows Bruce Jager and he's the one who conducted the test flight while I was there.  You can learn a lot from Bruce.  PM me and I can provide you with phone numbers.


You also can't go wrong with chatting with Dave at All American - no personal experience, but from what I've heard through others on this board, that's a good outfit.


Also, AllSmiles is correct - take your time - don't rush - and call MSCs, they may know someone who's looking to sell and has a great bird for a great value.  Bruce Jager is very dialed in as he used to own Wilmar in your backyard.

Just a comment about brokers. I've had great results in hiring a really experienced broker to represent me as buyer. Sure they will charge a fee, but since I have used them as negotiators as well as "finders", I have found that I end up with an aircraft at a lower net price, after their fee, than I thought I would have to pay. Perhaps I'm just a a bad negotiator, or just not a haggler, but this has been my experience. Folks on the West Coast looking to buy a Mooney might want to talk to Craig Vincent (209 830 7666) who represented me on my last aircraft purchase. He was the one who found the airplane, and in checking the titlle, found an old bank lien that was not properly removed, and he was able to resolve the problem in two days. He also negotiated the purchase price downward to a figure that I would have been embarrassed to offer. He made certain that the all the paperwork, including sales tax optimization, were all accomplished, and then worked with me to buy some gear at discounted prices.  All and all, a great experince.  


There are also some very good, honest, brokers representing sellers, and I would have no issue working with a few of them. BUT, there are also some brokers that most people find less than trustworthy.  So far, having a really knowlegeble broker representing me has proved to be the best way for me to buy an airplane.

Also, TKS ruins the laminar flow on the wing. That is going to cost some speed.

I have also used Tim, Bruce, and Jason for my last purchase and could not be happier.  I have known Bruce for nearly 20 years and would trust him without reservation. 


FWIW, I would have to really think about TKS on a 201.  On turbocharged or the big engine NA planes, I think it's a net plus. You have some extra power to drag it around.   What will it do to climb, service ceiling,  and cruise on a 201?
