M20F-1968 Posted October 1 Report Posted October 1 I have this heat shield, which is part of my turbo system, which is not made very well. The clamps keep cracking due as they are clamped onto the hot exhaust pipe, and the clamps used are thin. I've set out to try to make a more durable part. I purchased some 2-inch 304 stainless steel muffler clamps, which are designed for motorcycle mufflers. These have not arrived yet, but we'll see how good they are when I get them. I need someone who has the ability to weld 304 stainless steel. Can anyone assist? My cell phone number is 617-877-0025. You can also contact me here. John Breda Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted October 1 Report Posted October 1 I had a similar heat shield on mine. I tried a bunch of arrangements. They all broke. I finally just glued refractory material to the cowl. The only other thing it was protecting was the intercooler and it doesn’t seem to bother it without the heat shield. Quote
Slick Nick Posted October 1 Report Posted October 1 I can, but I'm in western Canada so unfortunately shipping back and forth might make it cost or time prohibitive. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted October 1 Report Posted October 1 I don't think welding that hose clamp would be an effective repair. I think you would be better off buying a cheap spot welder and making a new one. Quote
