Removing Seat Belts

Recommended Posts

I am planning on removing my seat belts to have them re-webbed.  We removed the belts from the seats, but now we need to take the shoulder harness belts off.  Question.  Is the bolt for the shoulder harness simply going into a thread in the frame or do we need to remove the interior plastics to catch a nut that might fall down into something?  Thanks for any advise.

On the converted belt planes (such as a 77 J) there is indeed a reduced size nut which will fall into the abyss when bolt is removed.  The factory belt airplanes have a tab welded on the tube according to the parts manual, and if it is like the forward right grab strap, likely is threaded.

I think you can loosen the bolt and feel if it is wobbling very slightly (into threads) or wobbling quite a bit more (through a tab and into a nut).  If it retightens easily its threaded.  If it wont, it's a nut.

Alpha's directions seem to agree with this guess.  PM me if you want the full size version.
