Robert C. Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 Hi gang, We have a family reunion near Detroit coming up. KVLL is closest, with KDET not much further, to the location of the gathering. I'll be flying in from CT. Any tips, suggestions and local knowledge you can share about the airports, FBOs, ATC, etc? TIA, Robert Quote
Danb Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 I go to Detroit often and use Coleman Detroit City airport, the FBO Avflight Detroit is staffed with the nicest staff both inside and on the ramp. It’s easy to work with Detroit Approach, they recently closed one of the two runways the open one is plenty big. The place looks a wreck but it’s all good easy in and out, as mentioned the line guys are awesome, never had trouble getting a car rental, I’ll be going back in a couple weeks. Don’t let the area get to you I’ve never had an issue I hope I just didn’t jinx me. Enjoy D 1 Quote
Danb Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 Rob, from your neck of the woods you’d cross at Erie, which I don’t do, I’d go direct to Dryer Vor, DJB, then direct almost over Pelee island which pretty much keeps you within glide of land I believe Pelee has a small strip. Your no more than 35 miles from land and favoring toward Pelee like 15-20 miles D 1 Quote

When you go via DJB do you get the FOREY arrival? Quote
Danb Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 They never gave me the arrival and Kavlov departure. It’s always been no issue I’m not sure coming from the East Cleveland may be an issue but going over them high enough allows for a nice safe descent to the mainland. It’s a beautiful flight who would think it. 1 Quote
Fritz1 Posted May 31 Report Posted May 31 Landed in Willow run YIP a couple of years ago on business, small quiet airport, big runway, friendly FBO, like the history of the place 1 Quote
