Has anyone seen anything about the much-touted Flying magazine drawing that has been taking entries for the last year and a half?  The winner was to have a choice of an Icon A5, Tecnam Astore, or $100K, with an additional $30K to cover taxes and the cost of a seaplane rating if needed.

With Icon filing for bankruptcy yesterday, I'm wondering how that impacts Flying's contest.

Cheers,
Junkman

The entry deadline was last Sunday, 3/31/24, and the drawing was to occur sometime this past week from what I understood from their advertising. Flying Magazine has gone silent on the whole thing, having removed the contest page from their website.

I just want to know if they drew the winning entry. I've already made room in the hangar for when I win my new LSA :D

Has anyone heard anything about this? The drawing was supposed to be yesterday, but I haven’t seen anything on the Flying magazine website or any of their socials.

I just read an article about the contest from January 2023 and it says the winner will be announced during Sun 'n Fun 2024. So should be any time now through Sunday.

Cheers,
Rick

EDIT: BTW, while we're on the topic of aviation publishers, I'm not liking all of the advertising email I'm getting under the Flying/AvWeb/Kitplanes/Aviation Consumer et al banners since Craig Fuller took them all over. And self-serving advertisements posing as "Staff Articles" in each of those publications for everything from his airpark project to hawking his swag. I'll give it all through the end of my current subscription cycle to make sure it isn't just me being an old man resisting change, but right now I'm finding it very annoying. I'm disappointed Belvoir Publishing isn't still running the shop.

Yeah. I got five emails every day at the end of March with these breathless proclamations “only ONE DAY LEFT before the Icon A5 drawing” etc. Trying to get me to sign up for magazines I already subscribe to, and to enter a contest I already entered.

I wrote the Flying mag customer support people, because they kept suggesting in the promo emails that the drawing was on April 1 when it wasn’t until April 9 per their own rules. Never heard back.

I really like the Belvoir publications and I plan to keep subscribing, but it’s definitely a little bit different these days.

I was able to get through to FLYING magazine's customer service department at (800) 678-0997.  I spoke to a very nice, but clueless, lady who put me on hold and came back and said that the winner has been selected and that the notifications would be published shortly.  Nothing about it in Issue 948, and my written request sent to the PO Box in Rochester was returned to me marked: ..."RETURN TO SENDER VACANT UNABLE TO FORWARD".  Delivery was attempted on 04/29/24.  Sounds as if it might be time to get the Federal Trade Commisssion to look into this 'Sweepstakes'.

When AOPA first gave away an upgraded Cessna 172, they 'forgot' to include the mailed-in entrys.  When called on this, they blamed Ernst & Young, but they did hold another drawing which included the mailed-in entries, and awarded another Cessna 172 to the winner.  Was a long time ago, but I am always very skeptical of any of these contests.

Anything new on this? I entered the contest 11 times, all by mail per the official rules, and never heard a thing. I would expect a flashy announcement of the winner with a smiling photo standing in front of an Icon A5 or whatever.

@Bobbo, did you hear anything further?

I had planned to send a request for the winners list, but honestly I don’t care who the winners are unless it’s me :)

I’m also surprised that they weren’t announcing the monthly winners - that’s a standard way to drum up excitement for the grand prize.

That's it????  "File photo" of an A5 and NOTHING else about this Craig E.?

Yeah, the whole thing seems like an afterthought.

I really don’t understand doing this big promotion with the intent of increasing subscriptions but without constantly showing us smiling winners of monthly prizes.
