Speed Merchant Posted March 5, 2024 Report Posted March 5, 2024 I have a friend that has a 231. His cylinder # 6 runs much cooler than the other cylinders. Someone told him that a baffle piece was missing. I wonder if someone out there on MooneySpace might have a picture of the baffles for # 6 or might be able to take a picture for us. There is no need to remove cowling just a picture through the cooling inlet would work. Thanking you in advance. Does anyone know if baffle pieces for a 231 are available through Mooney? Thanks Quote

Thanks Are you asking about the metal pieces or the top pieces which now almost everyone has replaced with silicone? If it’s the top pieces get them from Guy Ginbey https://www.csobeech.com/GeeBee.html Quote
Red Leader Posted March 6, 2024 Report Posted March 6, 2024 I have the same issue. It won't hurt it to run cooler so I didn't think much of it. Never had any lead fowling issues and my borescopes look perfect. Sometimes the temps get up to something more normal but it is typically as much as 90 degrees cooler than my hottest cylinder when in cruise. My #5 is also cooler but not as cool as my #6. I will look to see if there is a baffle on that cylinder when I next get to my plane. Quote
DonMuncy Posted March 6, 2024 Report Posted March 6, 2024 I would look very closely at the possibility of a bad temperature probe before looking for anything else. 1 Quote
DanM20C Posted March 6, 2024 Report Posted March 6, 2024 I have the same problem. My #6 has been as much as 100 degrees below my hottest cylinder. For some reason the 231 baffling only covers the lower half of the cylinder. Yet on #5 it covers most of the cylinder. I used some aluminum tape on #6 to cover up similar to #5 and I helped a lot. I plan to remake that forward baffling to cover more than it currently does. cheers, Dan Quote
Red Leader Posted March 7, 2024 Report Posted March 7, 2024 In my case, the issue was not a probe. I recently had the entire engine monitor system replaced with a new Insight G4 with similar readings. Quote
