Who's going?

I should be there every day doing for work.  As always, if anyone needs any local assistance or wants to get together, my house is within the class D at LAL.

Depending on some schedules, there may be a hodgepodge of people having a cookout at the house one evening that week/end if anyone wants to join.

I will be there everyday.  I am Really looking forward to it. Can't wait. Hope to see some of the mooneyspace crowd there.

I haven't been to Sun N Fun in 4 years.  My kid's spring break starts that weekend, and we're going to be out of town.  Otherwise, I would have loved to meet up with some of you guys.

I will be there Thursday evening through Sunday.  I volunteer at the medical facility in the mornings if anyone needs anything (sure hope not).  I will also be staying at the campgrounds but have no idea where just yet.

I would like to come but can only make it for the last 2 days. I would be arriving late and was wondering if you guys can give me a bit of advice. Would I be able to get in late at night? And is there camping or low cost hotels that may be available? I have never been to an event like this.

Thanks..

Patrick,

There are many places to park at KLAL.  Mostly in a big grass field. I think it would be challenging to taxi in the open fields in the dark.  I used Winterhaven one year as a nearby stopover until we could get my 65C into KLAL.

Setting up camp after dark would leave additional challenges.

It might be a better idea to pick another airport near by and fly in early the next morning.

Hedging your bets, you would want to make your large ground movements during daylight hours.

Best regards,

Low cost hotel ain't gonna happen in Lakeland. I moved to Florida last year during Sun 'n Fun and lived in a La Quinta hotel in Tampa for 10 days before moving to an extended stay hotel in Lakeland. $39/night in Tampa instead of $100-145 or more in Lakeland

I will be going down Friday and camping for the weekend. My son and his wife will be with us. Is there any interest in coordinating a Mooney gathering, maybe on Saturday?

Hi all-  I'll be down for 1 day on Saturday.  For those of you with experience at Sun n Fun, how would you recommend the travel?

  1. Fly to LAL late on Friday night and find a hotel, depart after 6PM on Sat (how do we get transportation?)
  2. Fly to within 100 miles of LAL and fly in first thing Sat morning, depart after 6PM
  3. Fly to Tampa/Orlando Friday night and then drive to LAL on SAT morning

I've never been to a large fly-in and I'm a little concerned about the amount of traffic.  I've watched the arrivals on youtube and they're very helpful- just how crazy does it get out there?

I assume I need to bring tie downs?  I have ropes, but does anyone have any recommendations for anchors?

Flyties or Stormforce tie downs work good. Avoid the claw, they snap off.  Also, the dog corkscrew tie downs are worthless, and they also break off in the ground and create hazards when they do.

FWIW we have the stormforce.

I will not be flying...driving again.  Worst thing about it is that I won't even get a 5 minute break to leave my 10x10' booth for the entire week. (y'all feel free to stop in and giving me a break once in a while)  Sleeping in a SUV...ah, the life of a vendor!
